Apr 28 15:25:33 Beer in Mind ♥ 2 Stunning art-style and cool music. Did you guys record that during the ld? :D Gameplay left me a little confused at first. Really needed a second attempt to get a general idea. Also knowing that one guest would die, even if I took his keys got me to try the game again and look for hints, however after "I got killed" I didn't really felt the urge to get into it again. I knew there was imminent danger because of the talk with the friend of "the tuesday girl", however I had a guest in the bar, who spoke about not seeing that one guy who he was suspicious of, so I felt somewhat misguided. Anyways, nice interpretation of the theme and a cool idea for a game. cheers~
Apr 28 15:40:52 15m 19s Bounceball ♥ 1 Holy Shit! Those enemy balls are gigantic. I've read the comment about that one dude having an easy time on 4k. on 768p it certainly isn't easy to stay alive very long. All in all I really miss sound in this, would've been neato to have some trippy music too. Check out www.beatbox.co -> I found this during the ld and it's awesome to create some 16 bit beats in a matter of a few minutes.
Apr 28 15:58:53 18m 01s Icarus Isolation ♥ 2 Holy moly! I can just chime in with the other commentors. The graphic design is amazing and the controls are a major hindrance of getting anything out of the game. I'd be perfectly content with just flying around and looking at the scenery, however without the ability to turn in any reasonable fashion that's going to be a pipe dream. :( Also nice job on the wing-animations. Sad to hear that this didn't end up in the comp because of external issues - I can see how that'd be depressing. cheers~
Apr 28 16:13:16 14m 23s Place Them All ♥ 4 Alright, I gave this a couple of tries and ended with 7 tribes and population of 9. The devil destroying every living thing on the planet made me chuckle though. I really like the pixel art and the gameplay is cool too! cheers~
Apr 28 17:09:18 56m 02s The Mother of All Games ♥ 1 Woah dude! What made you make 10 games? Just why? :D I like the music and the simplicity. Allthough I don't quite get the overworld - there seems to be nothing but a cat to be found. I really dig the puzzles in the first few (songs?). I didn't like the asteroids very much and the last level of snake just broke me. So that's pretty much how far I got. Nice entry, the only thing I'd wish for would be a restart level button. Especially in the second stage of the keys puzzle I had to restart from the overworld a couple of times because there was no place to kill myself for a quick restart. cheers~
Apr 28 17:29:08 19m 50s tinyarena ♥ 0 Very cool title, there's hardly anything to criticize though! The Art is really cohesive, the controls feel good and the AI can get pretty tough. Congrats on doing this in such a small timeframe. :)
Apr 28 20:45:17 3h 16m Enceladus ♥ 1 Heya, I got to level 5 in your game and it's really hard to wrap my head around the body swapping. I like the basic puzzle mechanic of counting and memorizing moves. Kudos to making a challening puzzler. If you find the time, check out https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/the-mother-of-all-games it's got some neat puzzle designs, might be right up your alley. cheers~
Apr 28 21:09:17 24m 00s Yours ♥ 1 Nice exercise! This game lacks a little visual polish to have me satisifed just watching my colony grow. I actually think your trees are pretty nice assets, but the world generation could use a fair few more polygons, so it matches the rough polycount/ detailsize of the houses and trees plus a bit more work into the lighting and materials could make this really appealing with little effort. Also quaternions are tricky to work with, there are some issues when the camera works itself to the poles of the planet. Nice entry! cheers~
Apr 28 21:33:31 24m 14s Hibernaculum ♥ 3 The game is really adorably cute! The graphics and atmosphere are amazing. The Moment I started the game in the browser I immediately stopped and downloaded the title, to play it in the quality it was meant to be. It's a little icky that you can't walk freely inside the globe, but your z-depth is actually important to solve the puzzle. Speaking of puzzles - getting the timing down for the jumps isn't super easy, but the idea for that mechanic is great. I enjoyed the few minutes of exploring the snowglobe. :) cheers~
Apr 28 21:44:17 10m 46s Wood Womb ♥ 1 Midgame the jump stopped working, I didn't really know what I was doing or if I would be a dead or alive cat in the end, but I still enjoyed my time. The visuals were nice and that credits song was just the perfect score for that weird little title. cheers~
Apr 28 22:33:35 49m 18s Infinite Planet ♥ 0 This is a cool take on an infinite runner. Having the "damage" be just a backward push towards the destroyer is a really elegant design in my opinion. Also nice aesthetic and soundscape. Although having a color-weakness I was at one point not able to see the level sadly, but I guess that's the price you pay for procedural design. :) cheers!
Apr 29 09:22:47 10h 49m Diminishing Lands ♥ 1 I hung out in drazil's chat for a while and took some time to actually play the game for myself. It's got a neat soundtrack and the controls are well done in my opinion. There's a little bit of a balance issue, if most of your coins are spawning on the bottom end of the level. However I had a good time playing a couple of rounds, although I haven't made it past level 3. I think this would do well with a webbuild. :D cheers~
Apr 29 11:11:26 1h 48m Bureaucratic Deity Simulator 2018 ♥ 3 Came here due to the shout out by @sheep42 and got to the level of "A bit more filing, don't mix these up either", til I broke the game. I guess I was too hasty on the restart button, as I've now found a bug which let's me only place one tile. I think the boardgame formular is great and the difficulty curve is adequate. cheers~
Apr 29 11:27:39 16m 13s Snowed In ♥ 3 Hahaha, I like the story and the dialogue, the writing in general. Everything in this is on a surprising amount of polish. The graphics are very well done, from the models to the mood of the lighting. The Narration is easily on a professional level and the little audio loop is also doing a fantastic job. Also nice job in using your mechanics as a sensible puzzle with the apples on the ground and whatnot. Amazing entry. cheers~
Apr 29 11:48:30 20m 51s Starstruck Ducky ♥ 2 I LOVE how excited the player duck get's when he's invited for a party. Generally the Animations are very well done and create so much character with just motion. Although getting told by someone you have a "splendid" realtionship with, that you're not cool enough for their event (damn you pirate duck!) is pretty discouraging, but then again - I guess that's the point. I somehow dig the cynicism in this title, even if that's a weird thing to say. What I am trying to get at is, is the glass half full or half empty? Seriously, this is why I failed psychology.
Apr 29 12:12:33 24m 03s Globe Trot ♥ 4 Alright, after some difficulties in the beginning I got to a score of 33,300. Quaternionmath is hard as hell, but the camera going nuts on poles is really something you'll need to take a look at. Also on higher scores the soundeffects of enemies exploding is overmodulating like crazy and is completly overturning the cool game-music. Which to be honest was the reason for me to try the game again and again. Because when I started playing I kept dying the moment the bass came in - and I really wanted to listen to more of the song. x) Anyways, cool game, I liked it! cheers~
Apr 29 12:44:33 32m 00s Pixlets ♥ 1 I've got to the green slimes, while making sure no other color get's wiped out. Pretty satisfied with my diverse little planet in the end. The graphics are cute and the tiny screen was a neat idea and really made it a visual package. Even though there's little interaction, without any information about the slimes I almost felt a little stressed out by constantly looking for my populace. "Is purple ok?" "Yes purple is ok, purple is always ok, those seem to not be able to die" "Is orange ok?" "Holy! Orange is down to 2, start the breeding machines!"
Apr 29 18:13:46 5h 29m Small Atomic World War ♥ 1 Argh! I got to lvl 71 but than 3 small molecules sandwiched me and took me down. Why did I not read the LD-Page sooner? I had around 44 neutrons and never used a single bonus. I had quite the journey with the title. At first it felt super frantic and hectic, after a short while I was just collecting whatever the other molecules dropped during their all out war, while later I almost felt a little lonely walzing through the level as a big ball, basically fleeing before any of those small and greedy atoms. I had a little trouble of seeing my shots because of the underlying shadow and the difference of height (does this depend on the ballsize too?). Also jumping and general maneuverability really had quite the learning curve associated with it. However in the end I had quite the pleasent time, while my girlfriend sat next to me fact-checking the names with her periodic table. :D Your choice of music was excellent too! cheers~
Apr 29 18:29:53 16m 07s It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things ♥ 1 Yeeeez, I had like the perfect final spurt! I was a slow and big planet, however when I met the Dark Star *again* I still wasn't ready for it and just barely faster and literally a second before it got to me I crushed a medium sized planet and had the blue "NOW DESTROY THE BLACK STAR" message appear. Pretty nervewrecking ending for an otherwise pretty ambient experience. :D cheers~
Apr 29 18:57:02 27m 09s Quantum Catburetor ♥ 1 Crazy game! And crazy hard. But, did you take the time to program custom shaders during the LD or are the deforming blocks some kind of postprocessing? Either way, it looks awesome. The game in general looks very good and plays super fluid. Although looking at other comments my score of 6000 really isn't anything to brag about. But does killing enemies really restore health? I thought it didnt and my demise was inevitable. Getting triple shot was amazing though. Also the generation depending on the canvas size, which in turn is depending on the health left is awesome design. cheers~
Apr 30 07:41:57 12h 44m Restless ♥ 0 I feel like this was an super ambitious project. The lowpoly artstyle and the futuristic design is super cool to look at. Actually I followed you since the first time I saw a blogpost with screenshots. The world also seems to be big and diverse even. However the game fell flat for me on several different aspects. First off the sound design isn't anything to write home about. While the foot-steps feel and sound weighty, repeatingly listening to mechanic CLUNK CLUNK CLUNKs is stressing over time, especially combined with the obnoxious jumpnoise. First thing I did in the game was to reverse the horizontal camera-axis, so thanks for having that as an option. Would've been great to have that ingame and not soley on the titlescreen. Although there was more trouble with the camera. Having it follow the player direction isn't a bad idea per say, but the way it was implemented felt very twitchy and often made me lose direction/focus. Although I appreciate the work which was put into the camera-controls, because I noticed some of the fancy camera works like the over-the-shoulder angle, while rotating. The Jumping however was what stopped the game for me. I see that it's THE gamemechanic of the game, however it wasn't very fun. The jump is short and fast, there's hardly room to maneuver. Combine that with a level design where you have to do pinpoint jumps from the get-go and it gets frustrating very fast. The games strongest points to me are the visual direction and the animation and holy moly, kudos to whoever made the animations. Doing 3D-animation is time consuming and hard, producing them for a gamejam is sth. I tip my hat to. Also the wiggly snake like additions to the character look neat! I felt like you/your team lacks a little experience in the time-management/priority-setting department. As the game would've benefited from doing level design and mechanics design first and later polishing the visuals. Cheers~
Apr 30 09:00:50 1h 18m Pixel Town ♥ 2 Cool game. Although I kinda wish citizens would pay rent or sth. rushing to a goldfield for a mine is really the most important thing. The soundeffects of the ghosts dieing is horrid though. Especially when you get a game going you're gonna listen to them constantly. Also why do the goldfields in scenario2 have to be this far away? Would've made much more sense to me, to start the player next to a mine to allow either a relaxed pace of play or have him wager the risk/reward for going after the edges of the map. Nonetheless I'm a sucker for townbuilders and the addition of light towerdefense really made the game even better in my opinion. Honestly, and I don't say this often in gamejams, but this would be my kinda game to play on off-hours at home. With added buildings, polish and content ofcourse. Either way, nice entry and getting through scenario 2 was just enough time to explore all the mechanics and still being excited about the game. cheers~
Apr 30 09:21:03 20m 13s Planet Taxi ♥ 1 Oh man, I love the visuals and idea of the game. I think the design works out conceptually well. However you could definetly benefit from looking at your UI again. It took me a little while of just driving around to notice the mechanics of the "GPS" at the bottom. However after playing a while I really drove rather to the landmarks then trying to minimize the distance meter - so that worked out brilliantly. My major gripes would be driving through the gimbal lock of the planet, which completly screws any momentum and is sth. you definitely need to look at again and also the harsh difficulty. The controls aren't entirely easy, so having a bit of leeway for the player to pick up passengers and deliver them would greatly benefit the game imo. Also when I first started the game, my taxi seemed to have spawned inside of the planet, leading to the camera just phasing in and out of the planet for around 3 minutes till the game over screen hit. Anyways, beautiful little entry, I really dig the visual mood and coherence. cheers~
Apr 30 09:32:58 11m 55s Small Kingdoms ♥ 0 I'm with @huvaakoodia on this. I found my self really confused by the game, even though it appears to be so very simple. However the visuals are very good looking and the gameplay felt fluid. cheers~
May 1 08:25:52 22h 52m Space Hummus ♥ 1 Haha, the story is amazing. The game is fun, although having a game mechanic which let's you basically skip any level might need a little more tweaking in the level design. Anyways highly polished entry, I liked it! :) cheers~
May 1 08:41:29 15m 37s Micro Grotto ♥ 3 Nice, polished entry. Smart puzzle design too! I got to the puzzle with the raising of water, unfortunately the game crashed on a fatal error. Nonetheless, pretty graphics and the music sets up a nice ambient. In contrast to other commentors I liked the heavy jump, maybe except for the pushing of blocks, which where stacked ontop another, which got pretty tedious after a few tries. cheers~
May 1 08:51:14 9m 45s Theatre Throw-Down ♥ 2 Heya! Nice little game, sadly the AI is very easy to break, so having generated levels may not have been the best idea, because it's very easy for the enemies to get stuck. If you add the very generous hitbox of your sword to that, you only ever get hit at the start of a wave (when they spawn rush you, those little buggers!) Funny fact: I played this with the controller in one hand and the mouse in the other. :D Nice Music, and also nice to meet Solaire again. cheers~
May 1 09:08:19 17m 05s Your Planet: Too Big ♥ 1 Neat physics puzzler. The orcish "dialogue" really sold your idea of being something very simple, which almost feels like a little mockery to the player as the puzzler. I like it. However why is there only music on the title-screen? Imo the game would've greatly benefited from music during the gameplay elements. cheers~
May 1 09:40:56 32m 37s Memory:Leak ♥ 2 I was kinda hyped for this game, when I saw your earlier blogposts - was expecting an abstract townbuilder of some sorts. Which it *kinda* is. I don't know if I fully grasped the mechanics, because the tutorial levels, which I guess where meant to teach me about the different buildings and the mechanics in general where just way too short. I guess the win-condition of having any building on all the spaces is kinda uninteresting to me... In the later levels the game played like a clicker, with some added townbuilding to it. Sadly I didnt know what anything did, except for Money and population-generators. Even though I did build all the buildings I couldn't exactly figure out what they did and once I had generated vast amounts of gold and endless population the game could be ended quickly. However the soundtrack was nice and the artwork, theme and style of this entry are just amazing to me. cheers~
May 10 18:47:36 225h 06m Little Lands ♥ 1 Super Small World Dude WOAH! Great ingame title. x) I very much enjoyed this entry. Very coherent and beautiful in it's art assets and sounds. Especially the difficulty curve is a strong suit. It starts kinda challenging, when you've got to learn the mechanics with limited ressources and later reintroduces the challenge, when you learn that your established ressourcegatherings are on limited time and when you finally (in my case) get comfortable with the games pace and produce every ressource in abundance the game ends and heeds you into a new world. Very well done. The only thing the game is lacking is an option for fullscreen.
May 10 19:15:18 27m 42s Noizy ♥ 1 Very cool aesthetics. The enemy variety is pretty decent, the challenge adeaquat and the jump and laserbeam are both pretty satisfying to use. Would've benefited from controller support (which really isn't too hard to do in unity - just use input.buttonDown("Jump") and input.buttonDown("Fire1") instead of input.KeyCode.Enter and .Space and thus having it cusomizeable in the unity input settings and it working for keyboard aswell as gamepad) But like I said, very enjoyable title - although I think the "kinda roguelike" is a misnomer, as I've played through the game several times and it's been the same every time, down to the enemy placement. Nonetheless, awesome work! cheers~
May 10 19:54:21 39m 03s Glass Houses ♥ 1 Actually a very scary game. Nice moody audio and an outstanding visual style. Truly, this feels like an actual original take on pixelart. Great entry! Cheers.
