LD35 — Shapeshift

DRACUL64 by josefnpat 2016-04-21T08:23:00

Wow, this was a really ambitious idea. I would say the voice acting is absolutely awful and annoying. I'm guessing that's you, but I would like an option to turn it off.

Maybe you're used to having your mouse sensitivity set really high, but turning was REALLY slow. I had to really crank it up to get any kind of usable movement, and it seems getting hit by any enemy killed me instantly, but still left me able to attack. I don't know what was up with that.

Dead End by chaosBrick 2016-04-21T07:58:00

"You have to turn the brightness up" is not an excuse.

"The darkness is the point of the game!" is not an excuse.

The game is literally just a black screen.

I took a screen shot and loaded it into photoshop to adjust the brightness manually. All completely black.

Shape Racer by SgtBursk 2016-04-19T05:22:00

Getting an error of "There should be 'Shape Racer_Data'
folder next to the executable" But they are in the exact same directory. I've tried them next to each other, and inside.

The Bear in the Light by MrPhil 2016-04-21T07:52:00

Interesting idea, but if the bear is completely uncontrolable, then it's a pretty pointless game, isn't it?

Box Connector by Thepattybeast 2016-04-21T08:30:00

I think I get the concept, but it's way too buggy to play. I'm constantly destroying my own blocks, which should NOT be an option.

Heroic Sex Bazooka by tsjost 2016-04-19T11:51:00

Pack it in, people. This one wins the jam. It's so adorably stupid.

Shapetris by Zampi 2016-04-19T04:42:00

I like the concept, but it's pretty much unplayable. The shapes constantly get stuck in walls, and the input will randomly stop responding. I want to like it, but the bugs are pretty much gamebreaking.

Sculptor Simulator by agrdev 2016-04-19T04:27:00

I like it! The sound gets a little grating, so some more variety or just lower volume would help. I gave up when I got to the bust because the grid is just way too small to be very precise. I know that's kind of the point, but yeah. I can see this being really fun for the right audience with more puzzles and modes, though. You should consider cultivating this idea into something bigger.

Do not play by AtomicVikings 2016-04-19T04:11:00

Jumping is unresponsive. No way to seem to go fast enough to outrun the scrolling screen. Interesting visual style, but pretty much unenjoyable gameplay.

Colour Shifter by hunter_oatway 2016-04-19T04:35:00

It is what it is. Improvements could certainly be made, audio, more feedback for your current color (changing the color of the ship, for example) and the asteroids could move at different speeds to provide more variety and give the illusion of parallax.

Just Roll With It by kumoi 2016-04-19T04:54:00

WOW! This is one of the best entries I've seen so far this year. I had an issue that I couldn't look around since I don't have a VR headset, but thankfully it played alright with just WASD. If you added mouselook control, this would make the game playable by a much wider audience. First person puzzle games are very popular right now, and who doesn't love giant hamster balls? Keep working on this and you may have a killer app for the Oculus.

Robot Escape by rjhelms 2016-04-19T22:43:00

I feel like the controls could be more streamlined. maybe WASD to move and the arrow keys to change the direction you're facing. I don't like that the movement is reoriented every time you turn around, but I understand why you did it.

Balance could be better and the graphics are fairly minimal, but with some more polish this could be a great little game.

TetriShift by dkdwrek 2016-04-19T12:02:00

I think I encountered a bug. trying to shift down on the same piece after shifting up caused the game to lock. Other than that, I love me a good tetris clone and this is a pretty good one in its own right. I would just suggest adding more controls (give the player the ability to rotate left AND right) and some hotkeys to activate shifting. Maybe later on you can polish this up. I liked it so far though.

Reform by EvanEGibbs 2016-04-21T07:33:00

Spectacular. The only suggestion I can make is to add lengthen the time before the blocks reset, later levels become unnecessarily tight.

Dice Delve by lanestp 2016-04-19T12:32:00

Awesome take on the dungeon-crawler genre. I'd love to see this made into something bigger.

Transmopig by CodeCast 2016-04-19T12:17:00

I think you linked to the wrong file in the web version. It embeds the entire download page with the scroll bars and everything. Other than that, very cute. Could use some goofy music and sound effects, but you have a solid foundation here.

Pinata Mania by funisfun8 2016-04-21T07:48:00

Yeah, you move really slow at the start and it's pretty much impossible to even see where you're supposed to go. You should've put some candy right near the player so they'd have an immediate objective, as opposed to off in the distance. But breaking stuff was fun enough I suppose. Would certainly be cool to see this made into a bigger game, kinda like Katamari Damacy with objectives and a combo system and stuff.

Planet-0 by Dreschler 2016-04-19T22:14:00

Cute game, good graphics and animation, fuck the controls. They're not intuitive at all. Felt like I needed to have the cheat sheet on screen the whole time. Also, you should put a way to skip the shitty slow text crawl at the start of the game. If there is a way to skip, YOU SHOULD PUT IT ON SCREEN.

Wasteland Wars by LavaGhost 2016-04-21T07:34:00

Yeah that link isn't going to work. You have to go to the folder on your computer and right click "Get public link"

Plasticine by Kafumanto 2016-04-19T22:04:00

Pretty much unplayable as is. It wouldn't be so bad if the shapes didn't change IMMEDIATELY before approaching the wall. It would be a lot better if the shapes changed just after you pass through, so the player will have enough time to react. Cute graphics, music and sound, but completely unplayable.

Project Catslevania by Marc F. 2016-04-19T12:38:00

Cute name, but it runs way too slow in the browser. The jumps don't seem to be tied to the frame rate, so you can't make it past the first pit of spikes since you can only inch forward.

Evotron by testzero 2016-04-19T05:14:00

What's a post compo?

Evotron by testzero 2016-04-19T21:54:00

Thanks for pointing that out. I've removed the audio category. Not sure what effect that will have on vote tallying though.

Morflime by AndrewSP 2016-04-19T05:04:00

Yeah, as others have said, it's unplayable. It seems to be cutting off the screen to the left. Like, you can move over there and do stuff, but you can't see it. WASD moves the character in addition to the arrows, so you're constantly shifting while trying to move.

Carl the shapeshifting penguin by LostViking 2016-04-21T07:42:00

Wanted to like it, but you need some instructions, or remove the penalty for death when you still haven't figured it out. Unplayable as is. What do each of the forms do? How do you use the hook form? What does the blue beak form do? How come you have to click to restart when you don't use the mouse for anything else?

Spirits of the Forest by Divitos 2016-04-21T08:15:00

"It's supposed to be hard" is always, Always, ALWAYS a difficult prospect for something like this. You have to be careful to make sure the physics and hitboxes are fair and feel right. Unfortunately this game does not. The jumping physics are okay, but there's no sense of satisfaction when you finally get to another checkpoint. I stopped after the bats first appear because it's just not worth it.

A health bar would be VERY appreciated. It would give players a reason to avoid damage without having to be so pointlessly unforgiving. The instant death here causes the game to appeal only to the most sadistic of players, and will really turn off a lot of people from what could otherwise by a very fun game.

I really wanted to keep playing the game and see the other animals. The art style is great and the music is soothing, but don't try to hide behind the "It's supposed to be hard!" mantra. It just the game.
