LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

flop by ix 2014-12-13T23:08:00

I know some other people have commented on the controls - they don't feel THAT bad to me, but a little more control during mid-jump would be less frustrating (I don't expect realism in my platformers, lol). But I think it's an awesome game. Fun, very pretty.

Add some sound and maybe tighten those controls up just a wee bit and keep going with this. Looks awesome.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

R-Trooper Squad by SelfTitled 2018-04-23T15:46:52Z

This looks great and seems fun, but I had issues with giving orders. On the first turn, I can tell them all to do things and they work just fine. Every turn after that, only the last soldier ordered to do something will respond (the other soldiers will continue their actions from previous turns, unless I clicked on them this turn which seemed to cancel their previous orders).

Edit: Also, you may want to opt out of the Audio category if there is no sound.

10 Second Script by Gabe 2018-04-26T03:46:42Z

@Rocktavious I think the idea is that the prompts combine two separate genres that are frequently contrasting (like "Thriller episode of Friends").

Golf Blaster by murcu 2018-04-25T19:46:17Z

I loved playing this, but there was a little bit of bugginess - on the third level it said "Thanks for Playing!" and then the banner did not go away, even though it seemed like there was another level to play. I hit escape to try and get it to go away, and it let me move around/shoot even though the banner was still there. Also, there didn't seem to be a way to exit. It was fun for sure though - I'd like to play more levels.

Victoria Failoria by pvtroswold 2018-04-25T19:40:02Z

Loved the graphics for this, and the platformer levels were fun if sparse. Would have liked a teensy bit of back story to let me know what I was doing here, who my character was - and to help bridge the gap between the last level and the rest of the game. Also, a full screen option would have been great.

Love In The Gaming Club by D-Studios 2018-04-24T18:34:42Z

This was an interesting game. I enjoyed the platformer. Some suggestions/issues:

- I couldn't beat the Sarah level with the ceiling hanging because my character would fall off before I could reach the end. I assumed I was just supposed to old Up and Left but eventually I'd fall. - After playing through/beating the game once, it should either automatically go back to the girl selection screen or give a choice to skip the story. I'd rather play the parts I haven't seen instead of reading through all the dialog again.

Weird guy wants Love by haley 2018-04-25T20:10:16Z

I liked this - it's definitely a game, it just needs a little more to it (a win condition or a score of some kind). I also like the art style that you used.

Pet Cats by Omni 2018-04-25T20:03:10Z

Fun! My highscore was 3500.606. I think I got all the cats. This is a lot of fun, and a great take on the theme. Really it just needs some cleaning up/finishing to be a great game. A menu/way to exit/way to restart the game would be great. Explanations of what each item of clothing does (before buying it). Also - I'm not entirely sure of the difference between Cat Happiness and Cat Petting (I think Cat Distracting slows them down). Are these two just how much each pet increases the cat's meter and then how quickly the robot-doll-person pets, respectively?

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I'd like to see it go further.

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-04-23T23:30:52Z

This was a lot of fun, very polished. I'd love to play more levels! One thing - the menu says to press Escape to close the menu, but you actually have to press End (same button that opens it).

Cauliflower Power by Librorumque64 2018-04-23T16:03:27Z

I really like this game - very polished as has been said. I would say add some audio and start getting some $$$. I told heard the Pokemon Blue trainer encounter music when I got caught (it's that exclamation point).

War General Simulator by machrom 2018-04-25T20:32:53Z

First, I really like the idea of this game, even though it might be seen as more of a novelty game. I want to play it.

But I can't for some reason! The MOVE command doesn't seem to work and the HELP for it doesn't even come up. I tried building, and it took my money, but nothing happened. The first time I played the enemy eventually came up with soldiers and killed me, the second time they didn't seem to move (from my SURVEILLANCE, which did work).

I'd love to play more of this, but I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it is broken. Either way, I'd love to see an updated release of this. Two things I would suggest right off the bat that would improve play (beyond the issues I've mentioned): 1) Let me hit Up to access previously typed commands. 2) Give me some shortcuts for commands. "SURVEILLANCE MOVE BY 5 5" is a long command, but "S BY 5 5" would be much more manageable. Similarly "H" for "HELP", "M" for "MOVE", and so on.

Please let me know if I am missing something or if there is a fix to let me play this!

Miss Priss by jfraser314 2018-04-24T18:50:32Z

There didn't seem to be any audio - you may want to opt out of that category. I had some issues with lag/glitchiness when playing, especially in the fight against the Bulk. He seemed to keep disappearing/going off screen, and at one point I got pushed through the bottom of the screen (I could see my energy bar poking up at the bottom of the screen, but then I died from flying too much).

Five Iron Frenzy by Brandon Anderson 2018-04-24T17:54:33Z

Game is fun and looks great! I like the artwork.

I know you've mentioned the difficulty already, but for a specific criticism/suggestion, I think the player's damage recovery should be quicker. If you get surrounded by a lot of evil golfers, they can get into a pattern where you never recover long enough to move away or react. Maybe cut the time that you are immobile, but allow the player a short period of movement where they are still protected from new attacks?

I think you have a great start for a larger game here if you make the improvements you listed above.

A Fourth Idea by pladams9 2018-04-24T04:54:13Z

@morphine I don't think it's saying too much to say that although the ending is the same, the black orb takes a separate path, so you haven't seen everything without it. Thanks for the feedback!

@Damienp One huge improvement that I think the game needs is some better hinting for the final leg of the game, so I totally understand skimming. Thank you for the kind words.

SHIRO NO OJO by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-04-23T06:49:32Z

The game isn't working for me. When I run it (from either the installer or standalone) it opens, shows the opening credits, then the title screen that says Press Any Key. But the only key that does anything is Esc (which exits).

Running Windows 7 Professional

SHIRO NO OJO by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-04-23T14:43:04Z

For everyone it is not working for - I realized that you have to press the 'A' key to start/select. 'Z' key goes back/cancels. You can't press ANY key at the title screen. I think it is because this game was created with a console controller in mind.

Beat to the sky by Thylomer 2018-04-24T18:18:57Z

I like the idea, and I think you've got a good start. Some things I think might improve it: - Better camera control. With W/S panning, it would have felt more natural to have A/D rotate smoothly, instead of jumping around. It was a little confusing too, since I think that A/D was supposed to rotate the block, but it changed the viewpoint of the whole playing field? I wasn't sure how to use that to my advantage, so I ended up not touching those keys. - I'd like to have had more influence from the rhythm part of the game. Maybe instead of them just dropping on the beat, the player could have control over dropping the pieces but has to drop them or face some penalty. Maybe an offbeat block bounces more and therefore has a better chance of disrupting the pile. - Also - it's difficult to pile up the blocks accurately. That's probably partly my skill level, but I do think it would be nice if the blocks didn't bound so much and just landed straight down (again, maybe this could be part of a rhythm mechanic as in my previous point). The other difficulty with piling is that it was hard for me to tell how a block would fall based on the preview image. Maybe replace (or supplement) the pointer line with a ghost of the piece in the air?

Overall I think this is a fun game and a great effort. Thanks for sharing!
