LD56 — Tiny Creatures

TINY PACK by xk_the_name 2024-10-23T05:34:41Z

Definitely the best game I've played so far. Increadibly well executed on every category! I played through it all, it was well balanced, super charming and overall just a fun experience. Would love to see more of it!

Silk & Snare by MartensCedric 2024-10-10T05:55:48Z

Very interesting idea and a well executed web building system. I personally would've liked some sort of visual indication about the progress (how many bugs I need to catch / how many lives I have left) and maybe just a simple score counter with different sized bugs giving different amounts of score. Other than that, well done on this submission!

TinyCréatures Company Simulator by mackain 2024-10-09T20:19:29Z

I think it's a biiit of a stretch to see this as fitting the theme, but it is by far the most humorous take of the theme haha. I think the idea of having a mini game collection is also solid, I enjoyed it but wouldve loved to see some more variety. I wasnt able to do anything in the "scale balancing" minigame though, idk if it was me but it wouldnt react to the arrow keys.

Rummaging Raccoon by LucaVazz 2024-10-08T13:42:40Z

Interesting game, I definitely enjoyed most of it. Here are some issues I found: - the onboarding is really rough, since there's no kind of tutorial (and to be honest, the one you gave here didn't reeeally make me understand the game loop aswell) - You can pick up and salvage scrap from anywhere in the world, as long as you can see it (I think that's not intended is it? :D) - I cleaned 2 whole piles and was confused as to what I'm supposed to do with the scrap once I've fed it to the catbox. Then I found a cartridge underneath the 3rd pile and was like "aah now I can craft something", but either it's buggy and I can't craft the Rat, or I just don't get the crafting UI... It's super pretty and I love the art style though!

Edit: Oooh I found a tiny tiny check box next to the Rat in the crafting menu haha. I think something might have gone wrong with the responsiveness of UI elements  Also, again idk if it was buggy for me, but there were no sound effects & music at all right? Would've definitely added a lot to the experience.

This all sounds kinda negative, but keep in mind it's just all the problems I found and the challenges I had going in. It's a super cute little game and was fun once I understood the mechanics!

@lucavazz Oh wow, it's a shame I didn't get to hear any of it. I was playing on Chrome (PC) over on your itch page. I'll definitely try again in a different browser today and adjust my feedback!

A Tiny Summoning by Reyansh 2024-10-09T20:06:06Z

Definitely a fun experience which could evolve into a genuinely good game! :) I enjoyed the core gameplay, here are some things that I think would make for an even better experience: - if the walls block the player movement, they should also block most enemies's movement & attacks - a hit box indicator for attacking would be great, it felt a bit wonky at times - the onboarding is nice and slow, but I dont think you need a whole level for each of the enemy types - would be great to be able to activate the summons (heal, attack, dmg reduction) via keyboard input (e.g. 1, 2, 3) instead of via mouse, so you can keep attacking while adjusting your buff setup

and of course visual polish & sound effects would add a lot to it, but I'm sure thats just due to time pressure

Bug-Bash Buggy by andrewkennedy 2024-10-08T13:28:30Z

Really liked this game! It's very well polished, the sfx and graphics were really cohesive and overall lovely. Crushing the insects was hella fun! I think if you had had the time to implement some kind of currency / upgrade system, this would be the cherry on top (of course that's hard with only 48 h, it's impressive you managed to do this in such a short time)

Nanobot Tactics by zSharpFire 2024-10-08T14:28:39Z

Really solid puzzle game with an interesting camera perspective. I played it all the way through the end, and I'm pretty sure I solved some levels not the way it was intended haha (e.g. in the 5th or 6th level where you introduce the portals, are you supposed to be able to yeet the barrels to the side, out of the level? ) Cute sound effects, lovely visuals and great ideas. I think the stretch bot was a super clever idea, well done!

Some issues / questions / more feedback: - when tabbing out / in, a new music track is played, overlapping the current one (gets really loud and weird haha) - is it intended for the stronk bot to only be able to move backwards once he carries a battery? - character controls were solid overall, I only thought the player cube was a biiit to floaty and jumping towards a wall didn't feel very good since you got stuck in the wall instead of gliding off - a visual indicator of where you're shooting the objects with the stronk bot would've been a handy addition I think :)

MiniMayhem by Phyrocast 2024-10-09T21:34:50Z

Such a cool game! It reminded me a lot of a small game I made a few years ago in college haha. I love the variety of monsters you get to choose from and the deck building. Theres definitely a lot of potential there. Some ideas that come to mind: - manual deployment of the monsters (e.g. drag & drop) - adding new levels with obstacles / different paths - some sort of tooltip when hovering over the cards (mid round), so you can look their stats up whilst playing - adding music in general - generally what @silas-reinagel said. I think synergies could be really cool here, or maybe some sort of merge-mechanic where when you play 3x the same creature, it combines to a unique & way stronger version, etc.

Sound effects and visuals are also super fitting, love the small particle effects on the attacks.

Good job, really impressive, especially as a solo dev!

Ballverse by Planetary 2024-10-09T13:48:27Z

Fun game with a solid concept! I enjoyed playing it :)

For the visuals: For me personally, a low res pixel art style with some 8 / 16-bitty sound effects would've fit perfectly. Also, the Black - Neon Blue contrast is really exhausting for the eyes. I turned off post processing (thanks for including that setting!), but it was still quite intense.

Gameplay wise: I think the upgrades felt alright, but didn't really make me wanna grind more to see their effects, if you know what I mean. Some more unique unlocks would've been great, like: - being able to slightly steer the ball after shooting it - some way to make more money (passive income, higher chance for money to spawn, gain 1 $ per 10 m traveled etc)

Overall a fun experience, good job!

Critter Crawler by Mullenratte 2024-10-11T05:48:41Z

@Rambar Thanks for the feedback! I didn't have time to balance any of the levels, so I'm really glad you still liked it!

Critter Crawler by Mullenratte 2024-10-11T05:53:13Z

@zsharpfire @sketchbookbug @rentem Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback here. The waypoint system really is a bit messy, definitely a victim of quick and dirty jam coding haha. I will work on it in the next version!

Critter Crawler by Mullenratte 2024-10-11T05:56:20Z

@sasha20 @reyansh @planetary Thank you for the lovely comments! I'm a bit unhappy with the art style in this, I think I could've made a lot more and cooler assets with a bit more time. But that's part of the fun in a jam, glad you guys liked the game and its visuals!

Critter Crawler by Mullenratte 2024-10-11T06:00:17Z

@winter2277 @cathelaleph @phyrocast @mrspeaker @t-pirozzini Yea the difficulty is an issue in this. Originally I intended to add 3 different turrets and 3 different creatures, which would've allowed for way more diversity in levels etc. Super happy about y'alls feedback! :v:

Critter Crawler by Mullenratte 2024-10-11T06:02:22Z

@ryuu Glad you liked my game! The multiplication was not intended like this, I only realized shortly before the deadline so I couldn't fix it, unfortunately. I even uncovered a bug that spawns infinite rats so you get a stream of them running from start to finish and the level would never end hahaha

Tiny Fate - Lost Ruins by sketchbookbug 2024-10-08T14:36:15Z

Nice submit! I like the gravity ball idea (although it's a bit buggy :D). The graphics are alsy very nice and it's quite a unique perspective being zoomed in that much. UI could've used more polish, the standard Unity font always hurts my eyes a bit haha Also, the cooldown on the gravity lamps is a bit too punishing, since you are forced to wait 10 s if you've placed it wrong

Overall a solid game, enjoyed playing it!

A quick tip for controls; it's difficult to have the player use both hands on the keyboard whilst also needing to use the mouse. Maybe you could've put the pickaxe aiming onto the mouse aswell.

Edit: I played to the end apparently, and didn't really have to use the pickaxe. Was that a planned mechanic that didn't make it into the game? Also I liked the idea of voicing the characters :D

Jellyfish climb up by Sasha20 2024-10-09T19:52:19Z

It's a fun little experience, ofc there is still potential to make it better (e.g. add particle effects to the mouse/touch, sound effects etc.) but I liked it overall.
