LD35 — Shapeshift

Getting shifty by Ithildin 2016-04-18T04:57:00

Really dig the aesthetic. The sounds work well with things not being too abrasive. It's simple but I'd say it's perfectly executed for what it is and incredibly polished.

ShiftSnap by Mixer 2016-04-23T05:48:00

178 seconds. The second puzzle stumped me for way longer than it should have. My poor brain.

OnPoint by purrpurr 2016-04-22T03:25:00

I was expecting something pretty typical when I first started, but was pleasantly surprised once it was time to "take control" and really blew away my expectations! Thank you!

The Blueprint by WitchBoys 2016-04-23T05:59:00

I loved everything about it. The blueprint style, the sounds ("hit you!"), the music, the gameplay. It lacks a bit of polish in places, and I felt I could "cheat" the levels sometimes by just taking out most of the enemies... but it's all very intuitive and well done. Amazing!

Tree Line by h2n0 2016-04-23T06:10:00

I really like the aesthetic of it all, but I found it quite confusing.

The player has to be lined up really close to a tree to cut it (I didn't think you could after failing a few times). I also didn't understand how I was supposed to fulfill contracts. I was able to create crates from the trunks I collected, but didn't see a place to put them or anything?

Doodle Book Survival by CarlsonAndPeeters 2016-05-05T08:33:00

Really enjoyed the graphics the most. The game play is quite simple, but showcases the art well. Thanks for sharing this entry!

Posthistoric Ooze by hunttis 2016-04-18T05:18:00

Very clever! Played it through. It's an interesting twist on the Lemmings formula and I really enjoyed it.

I also really appreciate the hotkeys to skip levels and speed things up (didn't skip any, but sped up a lot). Stuff like that is really great to have in an LD.

I did find the portals a bit confusing. The entrance / exit spin at different speeds, but I could never remember which. Differentiating them by colour would have helped quite a bit. That, and everything felt very zoomed out so I felt I couldn't appreciate the graphics as they're quite nice.

All in all I really enjoyed it. Thanks for making it!

Tetroidvania by gelisam 2016-05-08T01:56:00

Very nice. I especially like the forced tutorial at the beginning perfectly explaining what was going on without outright saying anything.

It took me longer than I care to admit to get into the rotation area (I had to stop and think about what I needed instead of just rushing around). It's very well thought out.

Silver Bullet by pavel_insight 2016-04-18T16:23:00

Definitely enjoyed the use of the theme. I sort of got the impression there is not right answer after exhausting everything and that you just try to make your own choice. Though I did notice one part where one Mary copied the other, which.. I think means they're the imposter?

Anyhow, I spared the Mary who liked cakes. Imposter or no, she seemed fun.

Drift Shift by Bailman03 2016-04-18T04:51:00

The drift mechanics feel good. It's fun to play.

I did find some of the timings to be very tight. I finished them, but it was often difficult and rarely had more than a second left on the clock.

Kudos for getting a level editor in there as well. I think that time would have been better spent adding some sounds or music as I'm not sure how much use the level editor will see. Just the same, good job fitting it in.

Key Quest by SigmanZero 2016-04-22T03:17:00

Other than the camera feeling way too close I really liked this.

The controls could have been a bit tighter (personal preference I guess, it just felt really "floaty"). The minimap helps a ton, but I found myself wanting to use that to play to compensate for the close camera instead of just a quick reference.

Absorbing abilities though is really well done. I like the effects behind it as well as the mechanics.

Shape maze by Firephoenix 2016-04-22T03:09:00

I think tweaking the level generation so it's less likely to get unwinnable levels (I had to regenerate a lot of levels 2 or 3 times).

Mouse movement may have helped as the levels had some weird angles. I played it for a few minutes and got to about 12 sides. It looks like more interesting patterns emerge later on though. Bigger increments (instead of 6, 7, 8, 9.. 6, 8, 11, 15, etc.) may have made it a bit more interesting earlier.

Cool submission.

Manny Morpheus by weirdway 2016-05-05T08:28:00

Still seems pretty broken from what I tried to play. There's the potential for something really awesome here, but it still seems to need a bit of polish and fine tuning.

Splash 'n Shift by linseyray 2016-05-08T01:42:00

No idea what I'm supposed to do. Feels more like a tech demo than a game?

That said, it looks and feels great. If there was more of a purpose to it I could see myself playing it for a very long time!

Survival Purgatorium by Beefsports 2016-05-05T08:17:00

I really liked the mood the most. The concept is neat, where you shift back and forth between attacked and defender.

The attacking was a bit difficult though, as I never really new what my attacks were doing (there are two) and which way they'd go (left or right).

I also had the issue with the main player looking weird. http://imgur.com/p3xRjTx

Exhuman by Arvydas 2016-05-05T09:01:00

Really liked just about everything about this.

The audio is amazing. The graphics are perfect (that low poly style just had a lot of appeal for whatever reason). Almost everything about this is perfect, and the amount of work done in 3 days is incredibly impressive!!

The only things that irked me were that some upgrades you could get would be downgrades (why replace my tier 3 arm with a tier 2 arm?!) and the aiming at times felt really finicky... you had to place the mouse in weird spots sometimes to get accurate shots off. It takes some getting used to.

I was able to beat it, mostly because I was able to luck out by picking up a tier 3 ranged weapon and using it for the remainder of the game after failing on the first level about 10 times.

All that said, still probably my favourite LD entry out of all the ones I've tried so far.

Desert Invasion by negativice 2016-05-05T11:16:00

Pretty decent. Nice job with the parallax backgrounds. I think the aiming could be improve a bit. It'd be nice to have that controlled by the mouse instead of the up/down arrows. My best time was 1m01s.

FAKE HERO by rwindrei 2016-04-23T05:43:00

Already have the Visual Studio Redistributable Pack installed (from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145) but still can't run the game (get errors about missing DLLs, MSVCP140D.dll and others).
