LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Oumuamua - From Outer Space to Deeper and Deepr Down the Well by Nikolaj 2021-04-28T01:48:33Z

I had some hard times navigating at the beginning. I would get sped up due to gravity from the sun I think and then get thrown off screen. Once I was off screen it was nearly impossible to get back to the game, and I would have to reopen the game from the link. I think it would be really good to teleport the player to the opposite side going in the same direction when that happens. That could potentially lead to some cool orbital patterns in the future too.

Overall though I really liked the idea and there is definitely a lot you have to work with for major improvements. The simulation behind it is really great. Loved the music as well.

Love this game. Art is fantastic. Beastarium is super cool and offers a nice end game. The price for pictures system is awesome. On one trip down I took a picture and said "this is going to be a great one!" and ended up getting 10k in cash to upgrade my ship to full in one back!

Cave Girl - SUPER AQUA GOTH by nardandas 2021-04-28T22:39:41Z

The animation on the bow was great. I am sure it was one of the easier things to get done, but I never would of thought you could make 5 pixels actually feel like there was tension when firing. It wasnt a very effective weapon to use to kill enemies, but still fun to shoot.

I wasnt really sure what the power ups would do. Maybe some kind of help screen in game to make it more clear. Overall though, really awesome!

Grave Fallers by Pavel Smejkal 2021-04-28T00:18:44Z

This is one of my favorites ive played. Its very simple, but everything is well polished and its very fun!

Will and Testament by johanhelsing 2021-04-27T19:50:14Z

The dirt physics and destruction is really nice. It felt very satisfying. I think it was on level 4 I got stuck though because I went straight down and I would just throw the dirt back on myself because the walls were too high, so it was really tough to progress further than that because I couldn't destroy the walls on my sides.

Dragon Space by timeloopedpowergamer 2021-04-27T07:23:45Z

The idea to use real life star data is really cool. While playing and getting really fast, it had me overwhelmed by the thought of just how big the universe is. Going so fast and passing tons of objects that are just an unimaginable amount of distance away at such a high speed. I would be excited to try again when the parts system is out to reach greater speeds.

Flier Miner by Onygox 2021-04-27T23:25:58Z

My one complaint was the movement was a little strange and jittery. However it still worked consistently and predictably to enjoy. I liked the idea of needing to mine as much as you can in the little time and hurry and collect what you could before needing to transition into dodging the oncoming walls. It was a good game play loop and one that you could feel yourself getting better at as time went by.

Deepest fish by JokubasG 2021-04-27T05:58:06Z

Very simple game, but everything is very polished. I think I got to 1200 ft deep with a 750 or so. I didn't even realize how long I was playing, just focused on collecting the fish! The slow down power ups seemed like they came in way too often. It seemed liked I had it on almost the entire play session, and then finally it timed out and I was flying down the screen. It was very hard to react to this since I wasnt able to get a feel for the natural increase in speed as I went further down. The random layers algorithm felt really good and it seemed like it was hand crafted.

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-04-27T07:33:04Z

Super well polished game. The rock destruction feels really good. Voice acting definitely sets this one a step above the rest. Aesthetic is really great - menus, opening cutscene, player model, everything!

The mine collision seemed a bit inconsistent at times, but maybe that was just me not fully understanding something.

Fat Larry at the All-U-Can-Eat buffet by mariszin 2021-04-27T19:39:10Z

Very simple but solid game. Trying to dodge around the enemies and maximize your weight had a really good feel. Potential future improvement: Have a small window in the corner that displays the weights of the food during gameplay. There was a really good puzzle aspect where you wanted to maximize your weight at each level, but it was really hard to remember what all of the weights were.

The Exit Is Deep by Exiled Burger 2021-04-27T05:17:07Z

Great work for new game dev. Sounds are great! I love the music. Controls are pretty wonky and hard to use. The colliders on the spikes are also very unforgiving and hard to navigate. I learned about these recently, but you could try to look into something called "effectors" in unity. You can set some up to only collide when they are touched at a specific angle. This could potentially allow you to touch the colliders at the base of the spikes, and could reduce alot of frustration. I died alot just barely clipping them.

Dangerous Depths by Mololo 2021-04-27T06:17:37Z

Great game, my best score was 5573. The 3d model of the submarine is really great. Are the mines placed randomly? The algorithm is really good if so. It feels very fair, and when I died I know if I was a bit better I could have dodged it. For improvement suggestions : Maybe make the camera zoom out just a touch when you get the speed boost(or decrease the speed multiplier). After a few play throughs I figured I should avoid the mystery boxes because it was basically guaranteed death if I got the speed boost, because there was so little time to react. It was up to chance if a mine was in my way while it was triggered.

Egress by SirDuck 2021-04-27T05:38:46Z

Sound was great. Interesting take on the theme for going deeper into a computer system. The visuals fit nicely and I definitely got the terminal vibe. I liked all the neat file names and some of the flavor contents that were in them. For improvements I would definitely add a bit more of a tutorial to start, or explain how the attributes interact. I was really confused about what colors I was suppose to choose and the stats didn't seem to have much impact, regardless of the way I arranged them. I mainly progressed by trial and error until finally something would work, but I couldn't really tell you why it worked. Overall I think its a great concept.

@noahj I completely understand. Our game is in a similar boat with graphics. We are really happy with the gameplay, but that took so much time that the graphics really suffer for it. Such is the way of a 72 hour time window!
