I like this combination of an endless and a boss fight. Well done!
I liked minning by smashing my cursors, got confused about how to shoot until I read instructions again :D (I thought I had to collect diamonds and treasures, not using them as bullets!) Nice little game! Congrats, fellow pico8 developer! :D
A very nice game, cool visuals, interesting idea, I was a bit dumb at the very beginning, but then I figured it out, overall super))
I really liked this game, and survived for a few minutes (and hit the boss with several bullets and a few charge attacks), but I think my arm might fall off if I try to beat it π΅ The fact that you had to keep tapping buttons to mine gave me an intense forearm workout - It would have been nice if I were able to hold the arrow keys down and keep walking/mining in that direction!
Overall, this is a really cool concept (I agree with the above commenter that a combination endless runner/boss fight is a great idea!), and I've never played an endless top-down game before, but it works so well here! Tons of fun, even if I couldn't finish it!
Edit: Just kidding, I played again and beat it :)
Bro tip: You actually can hold to move! It triggers after a short while, like when you're entering text. It's an internal feature of PICO-8
Also, wow spoilers π
Hahahaha I realized that right after I left the original comment actually, which led to the victory playthrough (I did promptly ignore the feature to mine faster though)
Funny enough, I think my first playthrough may have accidentally been on hard mode π I kept bumping into the chest from above wondering why it wasn't opening, before trying it from the front after some text popped up below it. The more recent playthrough felt way more manageable!
Edit: Also, spoilers have been deleted ;)
I have finished hard mode, and it is now time to pick up a cucumber falafel wrap - Thanks again for making such a fun game! I had a blast :)
A very cool game with beautiful pixelated visual. I enjoyed it and remembered the times I played it on a console years ago. Thanks for this!π
Very very cool game!! The whole thing is so well put together! Love the pixel art and sound effects! (im going to press all my keys out for digging really hard lol) really fun game to play! also really like the game over effects!

Amazing game! Great music & art style!
Man, I just love PICO-8 games, they're so well designed and cute. Your game not only looks awesome, but the gameplay loop is very fun and keep one engaged. Only thing that could have been done is to ramp up the speed and difficulty a little
Hey very beautiful and fun game. Well-balanced as well. congratulation guys :) i practiced it as cool as a cucumber...
It's awesome!! The spider scared me XD couldn't stop playing, very smooth and the graphics are super pretty, nice work!!
Really great game! I gave hard mode one attempt, and was thoroughly crushed. I may have to come back to it sometime. My only real complaint is how good bats are at dodging shots by stepping into the tile closer to me.
This was great! Managed to beat it on my second try. It's very frantic, but never became overwhelming. I liked having to find an open space before being able to shoot the spider. Sometimes the enemies would kind of force me into taking damage (you can't turn without moving, and if you're not already facing the right direction...), but for the most part that wasn't a big issue. I like the strategy the game creates of having to pick a good path that doesn't bring you too close to enemies or through difficult-to-break blocks.
The one major pain point is not being able to move continuously. Yes, you can hold to move after a short delay, but the default keyboard repeat is not sufficient for a fast-paced game like this. It's objectively more advantageous to just tap the arrow keys as fast as possible, which is not especially ergonomic. Consider, instead of using the default keyboard repeat, implementing a proper hold to move feature that moves the player at a consistent, quick rate. There should be no advantage gained by strategies that could potentially cause harm to some people (that kind of quick tapping is not good for you; RSI is a thing).
I love your entry, this is very impressive for a PICO-8 entry. It's pretty well-balanced, I really could not find anything that bothered me. One of my favorite entries! Great job!
Beautiful art style and music. The gameplay is intuitive and fun and I really appreciate the tutorial at the start, beats a wall of text anytime. I found that a good strategy was to press the down arrow as fast as I possibly can until I spot a monster, as long as I'm fast enough the spider shot will miss me. Solid entry!
I love me a good pico8 game.
One of the few PICO-8 entries out there, and I love PICO-8 games, as they remind me of the bygone era of 8-bit visual. The art style is very good, especially the spider animation, the way you animate its legs was really clever, it was not so overly complex but still captured the spider-like movement, super cool!
I was a bit confuse with the controls at first but eventually got used to it, and thanks to gods that I could hold the arrow keys to keep mining forwards, lol. But there's one thing that bothered me was the mining sound, it felt nice at the beginning but then it became slightly annoying because it got repeated so many times. I think if you toned down its volume or just played it less frequently, it would definitely improve the overall experience on extended play.
But other than that nit-picking thing of mine, this is a really great entry, I bet it already wins the heart of those PICO-8 suckers out there, well done!
I was a sucker for the way the legs moved on the spider, such an interesting effect! I thought this was a fair yet challenging experience. 10/10!
I love how digging is combined with boss fight, gives two challenges to deal with. I couldn't figure out how to use blue crystals but I could figure out how to defeat the spider.
Really impressive graphics for working with Pico-8, all the sort of gem like items had a really nice feel to them, and great job on getting in a good set of like rocky objects without it all feeling too repetitive! Excellent scope for a jam game as well, does a really great job of giving you enough information to get started and allowing you to kind of figure out the best strategy for actually winning over the course of a couple of attempts.
From another pico lover, I really liked the gameplay proposal, it's really original... after all the graphic work is very cool as well as the music... I really like the gameover effect when all the pixels fall... I have to see how you did that... frankly it's a very very solid proposal, well done to you
Very cool game, loved the gameplay and the theme combination!
I simply love Pico8 games. I am very impressed with how you can do such great things with this tool.
Your game is very well made and polished. I will take a look at your code later to understand some of the things you have done.
Congratulations!
This is so cool, thanks for sharing! I love everything about this, but I'll specifically mention the spider's legs and the game over screen.
