Didn't know that a dubstep shark was what I needed this morning, but evidently it was! Also this game is 4x as fun for people prone to seizures, trust me bro

Hello @sicosiber ! thanks for letting me know, i seems I was indeed tired... The page is public now :) Hope you'll have some fun ! Also I'm uploading first hotfixes:
LD57_KNARF_BLABLADEEPOCEANII_POST_LD_1_0_1.exe
-fixed "Continue" feature
-fixed/enhanced bonus & powerup being kept between levels (if you don't use continue ^^)
I leave the small gamedesign/level design bugs as it is, so this still stick to content that had been done for compo and no more, except these quick small fixes I spotted just after submission(fixes that are somehow important for gameplay intended.). blablabla Thank you!
Love the music. Gameplay is fun, but more twist/innovation would be nice. Only really unusual thing was that crab that retreats when you get closer.
Feels like the game is on cocaine--awesome! I do love an explosion of blood particles. Can never go wrong with that.
Thanks for playing @baturinsky ! Yep innovation was not really part of the roadmap :)
But I don't agree, in real life crabs retreats wheen you get closer, all day; it's a realistic game about shark spitting teeth along with his babies sharks that spits lasers and missiles; else you know, crabs will go away. Please note some crabs will also not go away and try to intimidate and pinch with their claws which is also accuarely described by my game (intended to be an educational game).
@knarf I meant unusual as it being original and good thing for a scroll shooter:)
XD Thanks anyway @baturinsky ! I'm a bit tired I couldn't resist talking nonsense :) Anyway I've learnt that sharks can generate up to 50000 teeth making this, I can tell this was educational for me ahahaha XD Started playing your game, pretty funny idea :)
Cheers!
Thanks for playing @ricesteam ! The game is mostly about (sea) weed ; I was tempted to make it eventually faster, hyped by DOWNWELL but I prefered to stick to a "classic" style ; however thanks for the idea, as I just discover that sharks positive to cocaine is a real topic, it sounds like a fun bonus to implement. And now a little bit of prevention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJiTxtcW-is
Cute game - at first I thought I should just eat the enemies, and it was their blood not mine (I'm a shark :) Really like the logo as well even if it hurt my eye
Need some sound effect I think, and also maybe gameplay that is more developed - it's generic top down shooter at the end of the day
But I did enjoy the shooting and the blood
Awesome game! I totally loved vibing as a shark that blasts everything that moves!
Thanks a lot @atsh @torte478 @sicosiber that warms heart !
@atsh I'm glad you enjoyed biting some ass, that was indeed just a warmup/intro before real shmup fun :) the first "opus" of "deep finite ocean" was already a "go bite some stuff" game so i wanted something different this time.
I indeed prefered only focus* on music rather that add annoying sfxr random sounds 5 minutes before submission as I'm used to... But I agree it could be nice to have a few anyway for the player to have some feedback, ie when player is hurt or dead, when a boss is appearing etc ... I just lacked time to polish this kind of things and prefered no sound than cripspy 8bit with no soul played at each bullet shoot.
@sicosiber I always assume that someone prone to seizure/epilepsy would instantly spot my bad taste for these things and just avoid to play my games, but in the end you're right... Even if seizures seems very fun, I would not feel very good knowing someone had one playing my game. I'll add a warning message and make these effects optional on next release, that'll be cheap to implement, and make me a little less evil person I guess.
Cheers !
*by focus i mean just do random stuff but at least get involved in that and deliver + or - everything "planned".
Oh loved those kind of games back in the day! And yeh... a bit too much flashing hahah could be less with no change to how it feels and its mood I think. Would love bit of pewpewpew sounds, but too much to ask in such a small time window given I think.. Music is perfect for chaos inside though!
Those damn crabs are nasty. I think, I haven't killed even one - they just avoid me until they attach to my side QQ
So many powerups and things in just one day! Its a good game overal!
I did not shoot any krabby in respect of my krabby game, jokes apart, nice entry and good use of theme, I think this is the first shooter going down that I have played hahaha
The music was very fun. The game felt a little RNG-driven in that I'd struggle through a few attempts at a level only to luck out and get some incredibly overpowered combination of power ups that let me charge straight through. I also agree with others that some sound effects would have been helpful, especially something for taking damage as I'd frequently die without realizing I had hit anything at all.
Great idea! I love your music!
blablabla good game! I loved the style and the silliness and the blood explosions and all that. Didn't experience any bugs as far a I could tell. Game looked, sounded, and played great. Awesome work, and it's super cool you made a sequel, sequels are based. I'm not just saying that because I also made a sequel, it is just a fact that sequels are based.... yes...
NO NO NO STAY BACK NOT THE CRABOhhhnoo. He got me again.
I stink at Shmups. Once in childhood I was at The Mall, and I saw a sign that said "Video Game Tournament Today! At The Mall!" so of course I signed right up, because I loved Zelda and Metroid. I didn't know how they were going to determine the winner, but I had gotten the raft with just the wooden sword, so I knew I was going to do well.
But the game was a Shmup. The winner would be decided by who could get the most points in five minutes.
I was the only player who ran out of lives before the time was up. I'm not sure any other player even died once.
But anyway - I had fun with this one! Jamming tunes kept me in there, and I spent a bunch of time replaying, and pushing further despite my stinkitude. The crab got me, but I learned to get him first.
Eventually I was there with multiple toothbrush fish, and we cleared the zone together! I was doing pretty well in the next zone, too, but then I died and lost my toothbrush fishes, and it got a little tougher as the waves of enemies no longer insta-melted. But I kept trying.
What eventually got me was something about this screen. I kept coming in here with one or two hearts left, and something I didn't realize was a hazard kept killing me. I was just moving through empty space and it would be like, GAME OVER. What happened??
invisi-death.png
I still don't know wh.. wait a second... is that a tiny black poison spike on the ceiling??
spike.png
Gotta be it.
Anyway, thanks, because I enjoyed this one. It actually kinda made me want to experiment with this genre and try a few things...
Nice entry! Solid graphics with lots of fun effects, and a really jamming sound track.
Really enjoyed the music and the gameplay was very fun. Some of the graphics made it hard to know what was going on but I still enjoyed the art style. I especially enjoyed the boss at zone 1-3. Great work.
This goes hard
this game is so hard!!!! but really funny ,I spent lot of time on playing, really wish more content to play~
@batisdark Thanks ! regarding the flash issue, i'll definitely try to improve that / allow the player to deactivate this stuff. Glad you've enjoyed having some powerups hope it helped in your battle !
@kauesilva Thanks ! Yeh crabs are nasty and can be a pain in the ass... better to avoid them ... But there are some moves to avoid them :) I'm very proud you noticed the rarity of these kind of games, even if that's a subtile detail ;) I told myself "OK THATS ENOUGH INNOVATION WITH THAT" ahaha
@henk Thanks! however the only random function should be in "decorative" ways, it should not imply enemy position/moves; very interesting remark, for this kind of shmup I also really like it repeatable. Especially to make it long, and test it to be beatable, a something I like to do is to write something to log players moves and replay it in a "demo" mode (which i of course didn't implement there) Also yes it would need some SFX for important stuff to give some feedback/ambiance.
@yt-ty Thanks ! I wish I could invest more time into Music but at least I had a lot of fun. Doing this is some relaxing part during gamejam I'm glad people enjoyed it even if i clearly put more into quantity than quality in this one ! (I choose to use everything recorded / "planned" along levels/screens even if the game itself is not complete... let's call this a choice. Around 10 minutes total of music, i never done that for compo before XD)
@floppynub Thanks ! Indeed sequels are awesome, it allows to give some universe/concepts/characters deeper without refactoring the first opus, and feel almost like AAA publishers XD
@pkenney Thanksss ! I think I've been accustomed to this kind of difficulty after hours of repetition... In most cases I never reach the end, that's why some games are still haunting me :) Often the secret is that patterns should not be random (for what I appreciate in the genre) and have to be learned, and also in the gradius fashhion you have lives but they are useless because once no more weapon you're usually forced to die without going any further and start again from start in most cases. Very punitive maybe I've been frustrated a little bit too much and shouldn't reproduce, that is in most cases much irritating people than anything else... The difficulty should definitely have another approach than what I usually do instinctively ;) About what killed you there... well there are some shooting enemies just below but these blue bullets are too small and with too little contrast :( I should have kept design tight, with more consistency and contrast in term of colors.
@bentglasstube Thanks ! yeh definitely some things lack of contrast I'll try to improve that ! Glad you reached there !
@bob152 yeh sorry I'm reproducing the cycle of abuse I've been victim playing too much Konami Cage and NeoGeo Games XD Also Bitmap brothers can be blamed.
@olddog Thanks sorry for making things too hard since begining once again :) All this is that's very motivating, thanks a lot. I'm baking a post jam version with fixes & more content, taking into account all these feedbacks.
I'm used to do EVERY FUCKING TIME that mistake of starting too hard without even having time to create some difficulty curve and resulting with everything throwed up in first levels and empty/unfinished last levels, totally lacking of content and with broken features ! The correct thing would be to abuse every feature implemented, one after the other to graduate the curve, mixing features slowly not creating frustration throwing all at once. Easy to say but still hard to do in my case :)
Thanks for all these kind words everyone ! <3
The music is very good. It is a shmup after all.
Game is fun but i would've enjoyed it more if crabs didn't fly into me and killed me almost instantly.
i really like the art, simple and effective. I don't wanna talk about the first pink thingy, i am scarred of that thing, the game is fun to play, easy to pick up and overll a solid entry
Wow! I really liked the visual style, and the music is just amazing! It makes you want to shoot to the beat, and I don't care that it's not always effective!! I was especially pleased with the crab boss, these orange bastards were annoying the whole game and it was very nice to shoot their leader... Now I'm annoyed by fish. When will dolphins start ruling the galaxy?
super fun and interesting entry. really glad I clicked on the game to play! loved the musics and gun upgrdes an stuff. Weird empty portions, game oddities and stuff, but really funz.cool.pngcooler.png
Glad that someone made a shoot'em up here. But i've have problem that debris from your bullets take a lot of place on the screen, and projectiles of enemies become hardly visible.67867867867.PNG
Thanks for the warning of screenshakes and flashes :D - I thought I was prepared, well I was not :D - funny game
i liked this game a lot thanks
I liked the art and sound! The shark moved so fast it was quite hard to control, but I imagine that was intentional. The game was frantic and endearing. Nice work!
