I like the main concept and simplicity of the game. Plus that you have wrote an AI against someone can play is great - i wanted to do this as well this time too but run out of time. Nevertheless, it was difficult to follow which shape is going to worth how much so that was difficult to identify the next best move... Also, there were very simple strategies to work against the AI (eg. i just placed 6 in a row/column). And sometimes my placed boxes disappeared. Not sure whether this was a bug or not. Anyway quite cool idea to investigate further.
Honestly, this is a really great game. I myself made a grid game, I love them. I don't know if it's an original concept or not but it's super cool. It took me a few moments to figure out how shapes mattered and were wroking but then it was all good. I think the colors and overall UX could be improved, as it can easily gets a bit messy. I don't know if I have found all the shapes, but I'm not against the fact that it's hidden from the player, it reminds me of Conway's Game Of Life. The AI seems to play random moves and is easy to beat in both mode, but I really appreciate that you made your game accessible to singleplayer. Good job !

Since each player can put a square anywhere it feels hard to have strategies. As the number of squares increases and less spaces are available it feels more intersting to me. Congrats on your entry.

@hotaloca very much appreciate your lengthy review! All noted, and all things I wish I had more time to add. I'm glad you enjoyed it at least a bit. The boxes that disappeared were likely the 5-vertical or the cross, which both have the possibility deleting boxes. Without animations it is tricky to register. Thank you for playing!
@dashvirus amazing, thank you. This was a concept i've had mulling in the back for a bit, and realised it might fit this theme -- so much more to do with it with more time. GoL was a large inspiration and noted on the AI haha :) Trying to get the AI to reason about the patterns was a tricky problem. Thank you for the honest feedback.
@arscene good point on the increased constraints making the game more interesting. Something to think about more on how this feeling of a constraint can be put in place while keeping an open board. Thank you for playing :)
This is a cool game concept, some sound fx would be nice. Didn't really know what I was doing though, just kind of clicking randomly. I'm impressed with all the various combos available in such a short time--definitely did a great job coding this. The AI is cool but the difficulty seems too low. Clicking around randomly or just making cross and connect-9 I was able to win in hard mode fairly easily.

Nice seeing a multiplayer game! I played this against a friend, and it was interesting. It seemed like there were some interesting concepts going on, but we have a very difficult time figuring out what exactly was going to happen when we filled a box - sometimes we'd place one next to an existing L and it'd form a new L, turning some of the old into a regular piece, and we'd get an extra turn, sometimes it wouldn't. In the end, we decided that it seemed like it would form a new combo if the new combo was farther up and to the left than the old one, which seemed weird, but mostly seemed to work. We also had strange things like when one player made a 6 in a row, somewhere _else_ on the board the _other_ player had a cross combo suddenly form (out of was was previously a 2x2 square and L, I think), which we had no explanation for...
If it were more clear what was going on, I think we would have really enjoyed this, although we had fun anyway =). Nice job!
It's nice, but I didn't really know what was going on or how to score. Sometimes my lines would disappear for seemingly no reason. I didn't really understand what the various movements were. I also don't quite understand how it fits the theme. It's fun to see a multiplayer game with optional 1p - that's rather unique!

The potential strategy here seems super interesting, but I don't think the the AI does it justice. I still enjoyed discovering the various mechanics and thinking about how to best use them.
Beat it in Hard mode :eyes: great job!

Wow, it really does need multiple runs to really grasp the various forms and effects. Probably better in multiplayer because the AI seemed a little clueless, but I guess fine-tuning the AI would have required a lot of time... Overall it's a solid game, really cool!

Bravo on creating such a unique twist on tic-tac-toe! The concept of zooming out to explore the true TTT world with variations like 3-in-a-row, 5-in-a-row, and even N-in-a-row is incredibly innovative. The inclusion of different board sizes and the option to challenge both normal and hard AI adds depth to the gameplay. It’s fantastic to see a classic game transformed into something fresh and engaging. Keep up the amazing work—this is a brilliant addition to the genre!

Playing on Linux via Wine.

Oooh, I see there are many combos...!
I guess it would be helpful to have these listed on the game page, otherwise I'm just placing squares blindly.
It's true that it's fun to discover new combos on your own, but I guess it's not ideal in a competitive game?
Maybe having a list that you would uncover while playing
---
Uuuh, do a certain amount of squares in a row self-destruct or something?
---
Ummm, how did a 2x4 square turn into a cross?
---
Not a big fan of larger grids... Don't feel like they add much to the gameplay.
---
Crosses override each other, my cross factory dream is over :sob:

Closing thoughts: ***FUUUUUN!*** and original!
Interesting to score by points. However the AI isn't smart enough to stop me from making a very long line and thus quickly winning without thinking a lot.

Interesting concept! And really impressive that you managed to make a computer controlled player in a jam
Interesting take on the theme! My brain isn't good enough for this type of games but somehow I won the normal AI xD Congrats on the original idea!
I love the idea. I only played against the ai and found it a bit simple because I only had to focus on placing random boxes to win. I tried to play more defensively but I found it hard to see where the ai's last move was. I liked the art style, it reminded me of some vague memory of playing computer games as a kid.
