I liked it, great idea. I would have made the controls a little smoother.

dylanlemcke 2024-10-08 08:21

seems cool! i felt kinda disappointed realizing there was no benefit to squashing the greebles, rather that you just wanna use the tractor beam. i followed your blog posts though, and the dev process seemed really cool :)

marco-santos 2024-10-08 08:24

lots of fun. took a bit to get used to the controls, but was fun.

kirlosev 2024-10-08 08:28

For some reason the game got me chuckling to myself  It's something about the combination of a robot going on a mission head first, the sound of running over blobs and then shooting them. Made a moment of my life more cheerful. Thanks!

The only criticism I've got is that you don't really need a reason to not spend a lot of time collecting the creeters and then wait while holding the shoot button.

I could see it be a lot more exciting if I had a countdown timer to finish a level in. This simple change would make the whole game much more exciting. To me at least. Combined with interesting levels, maybe with elevated areas, it would force you to think strategically on how to best approach a level.

And then have a moment when you shoot enemies across the screen to clutch the countdown and would feel exciting if you manage to do so!

Maybe even limit the inventory space so you can't carry a lot of creeters at the same time. It would add to the game. I think.

I don't know what your conditions and experience are. But just something to consider as a feedback. The game made me have some fun and I love it for that!

mr-pootsley 2024-10-08 08:28

This is a cute little game. I think things like collecting/depositing the slimes into the furnace could be more engaging. You end up just collecting more than you need and standing still next to the furnace for 10 seconds. I really like the pixel art.

winic 2024-10-08 08:35

it was pretty fun to crush the little ones and the squish was nice (now that i wrote it that sounds psychotic) just sad that there is no benefit to the red and green creatures and crushing also is just a juicy thing. I really liked the aesthetic of the game. One little thing, its sad that there was no Game Ending Screen or something final.

royur 2024-10-08 08:35

Complete all the level. complete.PNG

super-hadoken 2024-10-08 09:08

@winic @kirlosev @mr-pootsley @dylanlemcke @royur There was meant to be a limit to the number you can hold at any time. The red critters were also supposed to behave differently to the green ones. We had trouble with Tiled integration which left no time for play testing, hence the lack of polish.

Thanks for playing and the reviews. :)

zakku 2024-10-08 09:39

Me and my european keyboard trying to understand the tutorial ahaha. The art is on point ! Had a hard time finding the controls, good job nontheless !

fractal-flower-girl 2024-10-09 00:06

The art is great! The dumping was a little boring, but the rest was fun. Good job!

zomk 2024-10-09 07:13

Cool game :D Would be cool, if you could shoot the collected creatures all at once. Great entry!

sketchbookbug 2024-10-09 08:38

Interesting mechanic that you have one resource you use for pretty much everything! Graphics and SFX are cool, too!

zype 2024-10-09 09:37

I loved the graphics, but some music would have had the audio at a 5/5 stars for sure.

rkhadder 2024-10-09 15:34

The art is incredible! The game was fun and easy to pick up.

When you get run over by the giants you should lose some jellies. Right now the flinched mechanic doesn't feel as punishing.

Something about the movement felt unexpected. I had a hard time being able to aim and shoot from distance, I really had to get close to the incinerator to increase my accuracy.

super-hadoken 2024-10-09 20:37

@rkhadder ah yeah. Losing critters when you get hit by an enemy was one of our original ideas but never got implemented. Thanks for playing.

ghpxi 2024-10-09 22:39

Taking down the larger enemies feels pretty unrewarding since they only get stunned for a couple of seconds, so I found myself just ignoring them. Also, I think the game would improve by removing the shooting mechanic when dropping creatures into the fire. On the positive side, I absolutely love the art style and animations—they look very polished and well-crafted. The diagonal movement was a pleasant surprise, both in terms of visuals and control—it feels really smooth. One suggestion I have is to add some randomization to the sound effects to make them less repetitive.

iwant-pizza 2024-10-09 23:38

Very cool technical implementation and especially art too, but everything else under this beautiful packaging is very weak. The gameplay is very monotonous, but in the first level I saw how cute the robot moved quite well and collecting small green dudes seemed funny, but by the 2nd or 3rd level you understand what it is, well, just a stretch, so yes. But the idea is cool and it's a pity that it is not narratively justified, but that's all, thanks for the game)

judith-hantisse 2024-10-09 23:49

I find the core loop of your game pretty nice, having enemies slowing you down in trying to catch as many little green creatures is an interesting mechanic. On keyboard (I havent tested game pad) it's a bit difficult to orient to the furnace and it felt a bit frustrating. In any case, good job on your entry!

gaiwan 2024-10-10 11:53

Very goood game and a really cool polish bros ! WP

suchista 2024-10-10 14:17

I thought the gameplay was chill, though there was a lot of redundancy. I see no reason to ever shoot the big creatures, stunning them is clunky and takes longer than the resulting stun itself. Maybe some incentive like a longer stun would be a good idea. Also it was always beneficial to have the beam active (which constantly produced the beam sound), unless I was shooting. Besides that, the art is cool and the game is pretty complete and has a potential.

super-hadoken 2024-10-10 15:26

@suchista Yeah we ran out of time so didn't have time to balance the numbers. The beam was also supposed to incur a half speed penalty. Thanks for playing!

gerrit 2024-10-10 19:22

Best graphics of all the games i have played yet. The cute face of the culler is amazing :D Keep it up!

robot 2024-10-10 19:24

Graphics are amazing. Looks really cool. I think the dumping was a little bit boring. Also there was a bug, where I could dump the bugs and still hit the enemies behind the furnace.

loig 2024-10-10 19:28

Nice game, I loved the little robot. And it is quite fun to walk on the tiny creatures.

halki 2024-10-10 19:35

This is a cool concept. If you had more time to flesh out the mechanics it would be a really interesting game. Good job with the art and music they were nice.

lerkadverka 2024-10-10 20:13

You have a nice game and nice art, it was fun to play) However, it seems to me that this game should not be for a while, maybe three stars or another reward for passing?)

mreliptik 2024-10-10 20:34

Cool concept, fits the them nicely. The controls are a bit difficult especially when you want to align yourself with the furnace. Other than that, it works well, congrats!

scott-redrup 2024-10-11 18:34

I'm not sure if there's any jeopardy in the game but I totally loved the feel of this one, the firing mechanic and sound effect is so satisfying. Smushing the little creatures is fun too. Great work on making something so polished.

ategon 2024-10-12 06:05

Hey, im the host for Score Chasers this year and wanted to ask if youre fine with me using gameplay from the game in this LDs [score chasers tournament](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/$405421/ludum-dare-score-chasers-qualification-begins) intermission video. (Would play in the breaks of the tournament on my stream). Last LD for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuddhZScWxo

jiri-hysek 2024-10-12 11:21

The artwork is charming! The game is nice and relaxing, maybe there could be a penalty when I'm caught by the monster (they could for example steal half of my blobies or something). Also, different colors of blobies may matter. For example when I pick a green one and then a red one, they eliminate itself - so I have to carry only one color, when I pick the other color, amount of my caring creatures decreases; but it may be too complicated, it was just an idea :D

Anyway, the game felt pretty polished! Great entry!

garys 2024-10-12 11:58

@ategon of course, feel free!

pachino55 2024-10-12 21:03

Very nice game, will be recommending it to my friends later

whitefox 2024-10-13 16:40

Fun and complete game for the jam. I really liked the art and the sound effects. Poor little creatures had no hope. I think that the enemies could be a bit more punishing by making you drop part of your gathered creatures. Kudos for the submission!

greenpig 2024-10-14 17:27

Really enjoyed your game! The art style is charming, and I loved the satisfying squish of the creatures. I think it could benefit from smoother controls and perhaps a bit more engagement when collecting and depositing the blobs. A countdown timer or some penalties for getting hit could add a nice layer of challenge. Overall, it's a solid entry with great potential—looking forward to seeing how it evolves!

nicolas-diniz 2024-10-14 17:33

Ended up playing way longer than anticipated. One of the games I'll like to see finished one day !

hcs-hades 2024-10-14 17:34

Polish is really nice - the 360 turning on the robot is smoooooooth! Lovely little tile set - actually looks really similar to full game I am working on so koodos to the artist :)

I think others have already stated my thoughts - needs a little more challenge whether its a timer, the monsters knock the blobs out of you or something. BUT honestly the polish is fantastic and game jams are hard to get all the features in you want so overall good work!

josep-valls 2024-10-14 17:38

Cool art style. Maybe a minimap would help with the larger levels.

skyystorm 2024-10-14 17:39

Its a nice polished looking game, with nice sprite graphics. The sounds were okay, though it did lack some music. I couldn't quite understand the aim of the game, I suppose its a time based game, but it wasn't too hard to collect the small buddies and burn them in the fire... Haha, cool entry.

steakzzz 2024-10-14 18:03

Really well completed product! Very polished visuals and great complete gameplay loop. Well done! Art and Animation is fantastic and the large monsters made me chuckle nicely.

metriko 2024-10-21 13:50

Simple sci-fi vacuum cleaner simulator.. maybe outside of the burning poor blobs alive haha. A short linear game (with about 7 levels).

The visuals are great! I really liked the lively animations. You can see that _burning_ passion that went into it!

Collisions in the tilemap seems little bit too big, not sure if that's intended but I'm guessing it was just caused by the jam's time limit :D

I always like to spot some little details in games so I can appreciate them. Here I found out that vacumed blobs are not just a number on the HUD but when we are shooting we can exactly see which blobs were vaccumed (you can see this after red ones are introduced). Also after some testing I can say controls are not so simple in this, the character controller is trying to imitate a droid movement that cannot turn that easy in motion and needs to stop first to turn more.

The core mechanic is simple and easy to understand. You suck -> you shoot. Gameplay core needs a little bit more polish but again.. I guess you know this very well and you just didn't have time to polish/implement more stuff.

In the current state game required from me a little bit too much waiting when I was shooting blobs (I was just staying holding 1 key and waiting for counter to reach zero). One way to fix it would be to gradually increase shooting speed while holding a shoot button. However shooting itself and vacuuming small blobs felt really nice to play with :D I can also hear that you made a sound little different based on the current speed of the robot.

Very clear concept and good foundation to make something more out of this. That was little nice experience with space alien vibes. I had fun playing this game, thank you for making it! :D

justmars 2024-10-24 22:44

Amazing graphics and a fun concept. Gameplay-wise the controls felt nice, but the lack of challenge made playing feel a bit aimless. Perhaps the player could have had health and the enemies would have dealt damage instead of stunning? The act of sucking the critters in and shooting them out was satisfying at first, but it grew a bit tedious over time, especially the part of shooting them into the furnace.

Audio was mostly ok, expect for the annoying tractor beam sound that unfortunately plays on a loop while sucking the enemies. The game could have used some music as well, but in away the silence kind of fit the cave environment.

Overall the game felt like a solid foundation that I imagine could be built upon in the future. Spritework and animation were the highlights, but the concept in general has promise, and the gameplay was functional with no noticeable bugs. Good work, keep it up!
