very unique. I like the combination of the first person monitor style horror with looking after something. the puzzles are cute but if you miss one you get stuck as there's no way to hear the clue again
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD56 → Bermuda

@diabolical-sloth Thank you! Yeah I was gonna add subtitles but time was not on my side, had to cut so much content, I have a makeshift solution for missing the solutions which is to write them out into the description in a spoiler tag, or rather into a .txt file
I like the aesthetic but I got softlocked right at the start :/ When pressing forward towards the creature it actually sent me backwards and I couldnt interact further.
@dogesquad ah that one, you press the back arrow (at the bottom) to fix that... I somehow made a control system more buggy than my first game for LD, I been reworking the code so much I'm inclined to believe it does that to spite me especially because it's inconsistent so it may or may not happen again
I managed to battle through even with the reversed control bug, but after 30 mins the final clue hadn't come through so I cheated and I guess I died because the game ended. Still, I enjoyed the puzzle machine and receiving the instructions by phone, though I wish they came faster. I liked the concept for controlling with the arrows at the sides of the screen too, made the gameplay feel tidy.
@adam-jewell yeah I ran out of time to... test the actual calls, thankfully the fast route "works" but hey atleast my idea for controls was tidy (and buggy) :D
Why does such a good game have such a low rating? It would be nice to be able to listen to the hints again, but overall it was a great experience! 👏🎮
@sviborg thank you! Yeah I wish I had just a bit more time to polish up the gameloop, but I was also not happy with the gameloop to spend 24 more hours and enter the jam...
As for why so little ratings, my smart score is abyssmal I'm yet to rate and touch anybody's game because mental health and physical health said nah, I'm going to try and catch up today but basically you need to rate games to get rated else your game will be... understandably put into a really low sector of the smart tab to prevent people coming in making a game and not engaging
Cool experience, very moody
Ahah, that tutorial made me laugh! Quite original to use your voice to guide the player, makes me want to do the same myself! As for the game, I couldn't go too far since the hints were said only once and I missed a detail. Some feedback: I would leave the arrows at the corner of the screen always on, I thought I was softlocked at the beginning at first. And a way to repeat the hints. Love the vibe though, great job!
It's an interesting game mechanic. However, moving to specific locations with the arrows is a bit limiting. It would be helpful to be able to read the clues on screen as well as listen to them or have a history log of past clues on what to do. The game is a little confusing at first.
@munchie-games thanks! I like making moody things
@splittheatom Ah yeah the voice recorded tutorial! it came from me looking at the clock and going: nah got no time to make a menu with a typed out tutorial, record my voice, send it, same goes for the clues ran out of time to add subtitles, glad you liked tthe vibe!
@blazerker Yeah the arrows are limiting but I didn't wanna do yet another FPS controller, wanted it to be more unique (be it somehow more buggy), subtitles were planned but time constraints got me, the game is confusing because I failed to make things more clear, not my greatest performance and I'm already considering making an entire remake purely because of that
A very interesting idea, I'm not really a fan of puzzle games but the voice narration and the setting caught me. Great job! xd
Music is awesome and the game is very uniqe.
@emaigualmc2-art Thank you! Yeah puzzle games are not everyone's cup of tea which is fine, glad you enjoyed my "professional" voice acting :D
@sdcorpse one of my biggest regrets is that I couldn't squeeze in "Run of The Fool" into the game, alas I'm glad you enjoyed the music, maybe I will drop them all into my youtube with some funky animations and such
a very beautiful visual! The game is quite enjoyable! You guys are great
@kseniya cheers mate! I actually made this completely alone :triumph:
@stmate03 Wow! I didn't even notice (it deserves special praise! Bravo!
@kseniya thank you! Any game marked as compo is made by a single guy with a 48 hour limit, and any game in the jam category is a 72 hour game that can be solo or a team :D
intriguing, mysterious puzzle game with vibes of 'Myst'. would love to see (hear) some atmospheric music and another round of work on the voice effects, to improve understanding the narration.
@crcdng I love going spooky and mysterious, as for the music I got no time for it, I have a bunch of music samples left to rot will probably toss it up on youtube soon:tm: as for the narrator... that might be a me voice skill issue I have an awful voice so I wanted it to be deeper and more radio-ey what would fix that issue is subtitles alas **TIME**
I can't say I'm able to enjoy it but that's mostly for an interface reason: I'm not a native english speaker it is hard for me to perfectly understand you. I'm able to get most of your speech but I've missed one explanation and was not able to solve the puzzle. I have tried again, paying attention specificaly to the part I missed - but you get my point I think. You should consider adding text to ease our understanding. I will glady retry your game later.
@damdoshi greetings!
Yeah subtitles not being present is a big issue, I just couldn't squeeze it in there on time, and truth is I really despise the gameloop as is, doesn't feel like I did the idea justice so that's why I have not been updating the game for subtitles sadly, if I update the game it will be a brand new gameloop with subtitles and maybe better voice acting, etc etc. (unless I feel lazy and let bermuda perish like the rest)
Alas there is a .txt file with the solutions, sure it's cheating but atleast you can try to finish the game, otherwise I dunno people seem to like this little bugger might worth to run an upgrade cycle on it and my LD 55 entry, alas for now life is hectic in game dev land so I will report back later!
I apologize for the inconvenience and my crappy voice :sweat_smile:
Update: I caved let me whip up a web build specifically on itch.io with subtitles (I feel adding them is against the spirit of LD as it is me adding code and stuff instead of fixing bugs)
Good idea, music and art are awesome
@iaroslavik thanks!
TOP tier jam game tutorial :laughing:
Cool idea and bold for a 48 hour jam, a more fleshed out version (e.g. more depth in caring for the creature, etc) could be really cool.
I got into a state where the machine wouldn't allow me to change the color of the light and I had to restart. Not sure if it was a bug or what.
+1 on subtitles requests.
Nice job!
I think one of the hints said "waxing gibbous" when it meant "waning gibbous".
The death animation was quite nice, although I think some sound for that would have helped. There also didn't seem to be much of a point to the creature having 3 status bars instead of just 1. I got the "speedrunner" ending, but I wasn't able to unlock the "secret" menu music. I'm not sure if that's supposed to unlock randomly or if there's something I need to do to trigger it.
I'd just like to formally apologize for being so bad at my job. I'll try to do better! 🙇🏻♂️
@fint thank you, my voice acting career is getting there! As for a more fleshed out version... I plan to go from almost the ground up and push the game to something more akin to tattletale, better Bermuda AI (anything is better than nothing), actual map, less bugs, more movement options, better story... either coming soon or a dream in my head!
+1 bug LOL at this stage Narrowlabs runs better than this game, shameful on my part
yes yes subtitles, did a little bit it's not easy, hints are easy tho might just push hints and call it (being lazy wins again!)
@henk according to the diagram...
image_2024-10-12_190041160.png
it is infact Purple, 8, waxing gibbous...
yeah I wanted more sounds for death anim, **TIME** and those 2 analysis paralyses also didn't help my case...
The creature as is a waste of time besides being the theme sponge, I had bigger plans but 2D art said: nah (I just recently got a new artstyle yet again)
speedrunner is partically the intended routte with all the bugs...
secret music is super luck based... you have to die and get a secret death message that is rare... and one of the rare ones demand you alt+f4 lest you wanna hear 2.5 minutes of me reciting [redacted]
so be my guest: https://youtu.be/3FCUl7MiWO8?si=i_Cm8RZCQW-hxA__
PS to anybody else: the entire OST and UST is up on my channel :D
@samuel-fine you are excused the game doesn't help your case, I will check your performance when the full game comes out...
"Till then you better stay on your toes... *chuckles*"
@stmate03 Well in that case, the "waning crescent" hint at the start should be "waxing crescent", and the moon widget goes through the phases backwards :P
@henk well done me! yeah that would absolutely be the case, if I add this moon puuzzle back into the "not very likely but might exist" rework I will be sure to not get my phases wrong and swap the rotation, thanks for pointing it out!
I found the controls to be very confusing. There was no indication when I was "near" the machine or far from it so I felt like I had gotten stuck. I also couldn't hear the clues well because they came so abruptly and there was no way to replay them so I really had no idea what was going on. Eventually the creature got out and killed me. I enjoyed the graphics and probably would have enjoyed the puzzles if I could understand what I was supposed to do.
@bentglasstube yeah so the machine part being far or near is a bug (this game is barely functional at this stage)
+1 subtitles/hints
I'm glad you liked the graphics, I'm still refining the characters and the processes I make them with so they become simple, but good to look at
first godot 3d game i play in this gamejam and manage to run on web, what a champ, even though it's quite buggy but still. voice acting instructions is a cool idea, i think you can just leave a dialogue.txt if you don't have the time to do subtitles
@hanafl0wer oh really? Well the game itself is small so it makes sense, I had to dig through the .js file to ensure it runs on this site tho, I can confidently say tho that after a week of my classes (we started HTML and JS right after Ludum Dare LOL) that HTML and js is way more powerful than I thought especially with three.js that makes animating and importing blender models a breeze
Okay enough about my future coding endeavour rant yeah somehow the controls became super buggy probably because I wanted to use lerps to smoothly rotate and move about, voice acting was just a haha funny I tried people like it but it's hard to make things out and requires subtitles (there is a solutions.txt on itch actually) so I will see if I keep giving these shape guys voices or if I return to noises and text :sweat_smile:
It is pretty impressive that you even dared to make a game like this. Graphics are pretty nice and clean. Gameplay is pretty annoying trying to look for all the possible arrows. I think the up and down are also bugging sometimes... It would have been nice if I could use arrow keys and/or wasd to control. Apart from the bugs seems really nicely made. The voice acting sounds good and really helps with the mood! I'm glad I didn't choose a weird monster caregiver as my career.
@m2tias I sure did dare, initially it was WASD/Arrows but for some reason I wanted it to do arrows... honestly the entire control system is incredibly bugged because I wanted lerps, I'd say I will use animations next time but I'm in the middle of an engine/language swap so who knows what I will use next (probably better tho)
Yeah my graphics/audio/mood seem to be my strong suit from what the comments tell me, which is great but my games fall into the "all style, no substance" category because of that...
also you don't have a career choice... (wow actual lore I didn't expand on/made up after the Jam, alas yes I think we all agree that Sillycone got cooked with this job)
A really creative blend of horror and puzzle elements! The aesthetic is spot on, but missing a clue can leave you stuck, which is a bit frustrating. Still, the unique gameplay and tense atmosphere make it worth a play!
@sqrd-max Thank you! Yeah missing a hint can really hinder the experience, I found some simple ways to fix this, but unfortunately I'm in the middle of swapping coding languages and game engines so I will have to redo my stuff from scratch :(
Great game, nice matching with theme, keep going
@pimping thanks!
@stmate03 dint hesitate to check our game pls
