A little bit hard for me. Failed to pass the first pit, because can not understand how to pull my body upwards. But I really liked the art style and general idea. Appreciate your work!

lyamgtt 2024-04-15 20:36

Well done, it's really original!

flying-dog-fish 2024-04-15 20:43

This has strong Human Fall Flat wibes. Its frustratingly hard, I was only able to jump in the chasm and climb to the first upward pointing sign. The hands are hard to tell apart, some color coding would work better than just the position of the thumbs.

Also.. the description on the game page seems to be for a completely different game about mages.

cosmo8 2024-04-15 20:51

I'm not entirely sure how this game follows the theme, but I liked the sound design, and the physics were entertaining!

zubspace 2024-04-16 06:37

@promzona Thanks for your comment and review! You're right, it's incredibly difficult to get up from the ground. Did not find a proper way to make it easier, without the physic engine exploding.

@lyamgtt Thank you! There are other games in this genre, which were very popular on twitch. But maybe it's the first one with robot spaghetti arms!

@flying-dog-fish Well done, getting up to the upper passage! I also get confused about which hand is which button, but in some way it also increases the feeling of danger I enjoy. And thanks for pointing out the wrong description on the page, fixed! (I was lazy and just copied the description from the last game and completely forgot to change it...)

@cosmo8 Thank you! About the theme: There are signs on the course which "summon" you to the top of the mountain. I thought, that 90% of the games make a necromancer style game and I wanted to do something a bit different.

fanatrick 2024-04-17 01:03

Love the physics although I lose my mind playing games like these. Doesn't adhere to the theme at all though.

zubspace 2024-04-17 06:04

@fanatrick Thanks for your comment. Yeah games like this are nerve-wrecking. But the harder the challenges, the better it feels to overcome them :)

denvil 2024-04-17 18:34

Nice climber game but not really with in the theme. One thing that made me stop playing was not capturing the mouse in web version. I managed to click outside the game and fall..

zubspace 2024-04-17 19:16

@denvil Thanks for playing and good point about capturing the mouse. Makes sense. Playing fullscreen makes it easier.

mahobear8 2024-04-18 03:54

Seems like there was something cool here, but I glitched out of bounds while attempting to escape the first pit, so I didn't get very far.

benjaminw 2024-04-18 04:55

Ah, nice. My own little slice of hell. The darkness of the cave, dripping water and clanking of my spaghetti arms and tin can body into unending silence only add to the despair. Tip for new players: Spaghetti arms are like slingshots? Nice game. Cave is not the happiest environment to undertake this struggle though. Too claustrophobic imo Dx

zubspace 2024-04-18 06:01

@mahobear Thanks for playing and sorry to hear that. I put the Godot Physics engine to the test and in some cases it spectacularly fails :(

@benjaminw Oh, absolutely! But don't despair! The cave is just a brief pit stop on our journey. Eventually you will get out and feel that crisp alpine air on your tin-can face again. It's all part of the adventure, right? Just think, once you reach the top, ye can look down on this miserable existence and laugh! You might be made of tin, but your spirit is unbreakable!

simon-rahnasto 2024-04-18 13:42

A game where you have to summon willpower to get over seemingly impossible challenges? Oh I love this, specially the feeling of desperately clawing a wall after falling down haha. I am nowhere near good enough at these type of games to make it far, but I would love to watch a video of someone who is showing how it's done by a pro

Great job overall!

zubspace 2024-04-19 15:56

@simon-rahnasto Thank you so much for you comment! You asked for it, so I shall deliver: https://youtu.be/Nx4pgSAMDF0

simon-rahnasto 2024-04-19 21:04

@zubspace Thank you so much for the video! I am in complete awe, how on earth did you manage it so fast! The video has given me an unreasonable urge to return and try to summit the mountain. I will give it a go tomorrow, wish me luck!

Ps, the ending was glorious, great build up with the faulty ram. Poor robot is Sisyphus; without even knowing it. Amnesia-Sisyphus! xD

zubspace 2024-04-19 21:59

@simon-rahnasto Thanks for getting back to me, glad you liked the video! You know, the problem I often face with my games is, that I make them too difficult. I find balancing a game hard, because I get so used to the movement and strategies that I completely forget how hard it has to be for someone who does not know the ins and outs. After reading through all the comments I'm sure my game would be way more approachable with an easy mode, where you basically fly up the mountain.

But well, that's why I come back each Ludum Dare to improve  And hopefully one day I strike the perfect balance. So I'm happy you gave me the idea for the video and I'm sure many here will enjoy that more than playing the game and I'm absolutely ok with that! Good luck and have fun

What a difficult and frustrating game. I quite enjoyed it! I was unable to complete it, but I did watch the video and picked up some of your tips so I may go back and give it another try. I think you did a great job on making something interesting that also requires a bit of time to master. A true skill-based game, which I don't see much of in Ludum Dare Compos.

coatline 2024-04-20 00:21

Holy cow I tried that for a long time! I can tell it was Godot physics, my hands got stuck inside the walls mutiple times, having to restart. But I persisted and... finally made it to this sign! And... fell back down.. I actually really like the sound design here though, as well as the music. Pretty interesting movement, of course, reminding me of Getting Over It and such games. Well done!

@recursor Thanks for your review! I'm glad you appreciate the difficulty, but I also know that this does not apply to everyone. Approachable games probably fair a lot better on LD, but sometimes I do enjoy hard games. They trigger something in my brain..

@coatline I love Godot, but its physic engine is so unstable, I can't imagine anyone using it for a real game. In my game an arm consists of 5 or so Rigidbodies connected through PinJoints, and even if you reduce the softness to 0, which schould make them completely stiff, they can bend like crazy. I think this is happens more, if the mass difference between connected bodies increases, but the arm parts needed to be lighter than the torso, so I had to live with it. :imp:

I think you can integrate the Jolt physic engine in Godot 4 and I probably need to give it a try next time.

Anyway, thanks for trying. You made it quite far inspite all of the bugs

konstantinreed 2024-04-20 11:38

Great idea with the robot that can't pull itself up) Thanks for the gaming pleasure, but fully mastering the controls proved to be a difficult task for me. I can't say the game has even one aspect related to the summoning theme, but excellent job, it would be interesting to see the project develop!

braktheman 2024-04-21 01:58

I never can get very far in these kind of games just because my brain never really fully grasps the control but I appreciate the dedication put in. I'm glad you put a video in the comments it helps me to see the stuff I couldn't see myself. Great job making an engine that works pretty well and I like that it infinitely loops.

Keep up the good work!

commanderstitch 2024-04-21 02:03

top.png

the game was really hard! I couldn't believe how difficult it was to lose your momentum the moment your body hits a wall or your hand graces a sign... xD Once I learned how to fly, however, the game became much easier to make it to the top. it was like stretching a rubber band!

zubspace 2024-04-21 19:19

@konstantinreed Thanks for your comment! Glad you enjoyed it. I love physic based games and wanted to make one myself and learned a ton. Not everything worked as I expected, that's why the controls are not as smooth, but I'm sure there are ways to improve.

@braktheman Thanks for playing! Yeah, it's a lot to ask to learn all the control intricacies in a short time. I need to remind myself to make an easy game next time :)

@commanderstitch Wow! Good job! You are probably the first one who made it and that makes me so happy! Yeah, flying a robot through the air is fun I think. Thanks for putting the time in and for posting the screenshot
