Really good game! I particularly like the audio and the dark/gloomy mood, you did a great job on that!
Great work, really enjoyed some of the puzzles. Background music is 10/10
That was a pretty unique game. It was also pretty challenging! I'm a little torn on suggesting that the blocks that break when you step on them should be more visible. On one hand, I found myself getting through them by memorizing where they were after accidentally breaking through them. On the other hand, I eventually did notice they were 1x1 and always positioned where there would otherwise be 1x2 blocks. The only issue was I found it a little difficult to recognize that pattern at the speed that the game progressed.
The graphics were simple but effective which is great and the music and sound effects were well done and fit the mood of the game. Great job!
Good platformer with a lot of nice dynamic levels.
One suggestion I have is to add a bit of grace time for jumps so that you can jump a small amount of time after you run off a platform.
My favorite interpretation of the theme so far! Great music and level design. Nice work!
Great idea! I enjoyed to play it. Well done!
Nice interpretation of the Theme. Game is nice although I stuck at some point and wasn't able to continue (i'm bad at platformers)
Great game! I think it sometimes feels kind of unfair, since you can't really see what's ahead of you, and when you do, there's no way you can survive it. But I really liked it anyway, very original idea and great take on the theme!
Great job ! The game is a bit difficult but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I particularly liked the music and the sound design!
I liked this a lot! Unfortunately my BS self-protection measures prevented me from going forward after going through invisible vanishing blocks.
It's a nice concept and I love how low-level everything is, C++ and SDL, very very nice.
> after going through invisible vanishing blocks.
@catusfelony They're not invisible :-) As @rcxa noticed:
> I eventually did notice they were 1x1 and always positioned where there would otherwise be 1x2 blocks. The only issue was I found it a little difficult to recognize that pattern at the speed that the game progressed.
You can toggle a slow-motion mode (I use it for debug) by pressing the Tab key, this will slow the game down to a point you will be able to see all the clues.
Thanks for playing and for your comments!
It really captures the theme well, but unfortunately, I'm not very good at platformer games, so I wasn't able to complete the game. However, I found every aspect of the game very appealing. Well done!
Great platform game! This somehow reminds me of "I Wanna Be the Guy". All the traps, full of fun of being teased. A great take on the theme. One of my favorite ones. Congrats on the really nice entry!
This is a nice-looking, unique idea for the theme of limited space!
I didn't end up getting too far into the game unfortunately as I found the wall-moving mechanic a bit frustrating with how they worked alongside the hard-to-spot vanishing blocks. Having to spend a long time waiting for the walls to open again just to get back to where you died to those blocks felt a bit unfun to me. I'm sure the surprising nature of them if you aren't paying attention is part of why you added them in the first place though.
I did enjoy the graphics of this game a lot, despite how I felt about the gameplay. The small game window with the simple sprites feels fitting for the theme, and the music and audio complement the style you went with. The only part of the audio I felt was a bit out of place compared to the rest was the jump sound, feeling a bit too "clean" and light if that makes any sense.
For what I did play, things that I think could help: * As others have said, maybe making the vanishing blocks just a bit more easily seen could help it feel less unfair. * I noticed my jump input getting eaten sometimes when trying to jump right at the edge of a platform, so maybe adding a small amount of time to input jump when walking off an edge would help. * My main frustration with the game came from how the wall-moving mechanic worked so this is a bit subjective: * Making the walls move so slowly made it feel like I was spending a lot of time just following an opening wall at some points more than actively solving a puzzle or interacting with the game, at least for the parts I made it through. I understand that how the walls move is a big part of this game, so I'm not sure if speeding this process up would negatively affect it.
The music and sounds are super, coupled with the graphics it looks very stylish. It's cool to play a platformer with such a gameplay feature that reveals the theme.
Custom game engine? Wow! Nice mood! As others have mentioned, the non-decorated dissapearing blocks were hard to adapt to.
I liked it. It's tough, it's brutal, but it never seemed unfair, save for a few cheeky drop blocks. Graphics all work well. sound fits in with everything else perfectly. The platforming controls could have been a bit more responsive and smooth, but it's a jam game so it gets a pass on that. I thought the concept worked well with the theme and it was a bit different with all the moving walls. Solid entry. Good stuff :8ball:
@nilan @jamesw @dawnables @volkolak @flightless @oddballdave Thanks a lot for playing and for your feedback!
Fantastic game, wins the theme for me. Very innovative and creative take on the theme. Love the music and sounds. Graphics are basic but don't look bad. Only thing I can complain about is the jumping can be a little more responsive especially during the tower climbing level. Love the music and sounds.
This game is incredible, despite the simple graphics the level design is brilliant. By the fourth or third I was really dying too much and after a long time I had to leave on schedule, it got a little insanely difficult, but it's still a great game. A little hidden pearl.
A very clever platform puzzler, solid use of the theme! I ended up struggling with the big moving wall level, having to jump from the one little wall to the next and missing it a few times in a row, which is where I ended up quitting. A little more coyote time or a ledge-grabbing mechanic on those edges would've been welcome for a lesser-skilled platform gamer like myself (of course, that is too much to ask for a jam time span). :laughing:
Simple but well-done art style, vibing soundtrack, a a great concept overall!
The game is not as simple as it seems at first :) The soundtrack is fascinating. Great job, @ace17!
