Nice, though could definitely use a bit more variety and there's not much feedback from getting hit (i.e. screen shake, flash red or smthn). All in all a good basis for a game.

ellaris 2023-05-01 11:58

+ Feels like there was too much going on at the same time, having to dodge enemy bullets, shooting enemies, reeling in thrash, destroying obstacles and staying on the boat. + I feel like there was way too much enemies, random boxes appearing in front of them, and they seemed to be able to shoot through the boxes? + The hook shooting and reeling in the trash was way too manual with everything else going on, I feel that it would be better if you just have to aim and shoot at the trash and wait for it to automatically be pulled so you could grab onto another one.

torte478 2023-05-01 12:09

Great graphics and very immersive sound design!

balgorode 2023-05-01 12:18

I largely agree with the first comment, but I will add that the motion blur was perhaps a bit too much for me.

Also I see that this was your first Ludum Dare, so let me just say welcome, I hope you enjoy your time making and playing games here!

pincushion 2023-05-01 12:24

Between the dodging bullets, trying to kill baddies to get health, and clear a path, I didn't have time to reel in rafts. Sometimes there were so many bullets coming at me that I would die from full health. So it was pretty tough, but I found that I was getting further every run.

Nice models. The no-faced baddies were pretty cool. The shooting felt good, especially when I got into a reload rhythm. The trash fishing was cool too, but to progress, I couldn't focus on it at all.

It's a nice game. I would have enjoyed it more if it were a little easier. I liked the variety of mechanics/challenges. They all work really well together, but I think that I'd have to get really good to make it to the end.

tyegamedev 2023-05-01 18:33

@Emily-TTG Totally agree, I was so fixated on having a sound effect for it but forgot to have a screen red effect. That would have been fast to implement. Thank you for the feedback!

tyegamedev 2023-05-01 18:35

@ellaris you are very much correct - I was so in my own world playtesting each mechanic on its own the grapple did get lost in the sauce in order to stay alive with the enemies. The enemy bullets colliding with the pillars was a oversight, I totally could have done that easily I just did not think about it.

I think if I was gonna have the reeling in effect over again I would change the input to the right mouse button and add a progress bar for completion so you dont have to look at it while it collects.

That being said automatic would have been the easiest. Thank you for playing and appreciate your feedback and will learn from it!

tyegamedev 2023-05-01 18:36

@torte478 thank you! FL studio always comes in clutch for me!

tyegamedev 2023-05-01 18:37

@Balgorode I did take a risk putting it in without a settings option as I know for accessibility reasons it varies from person to person so I apologize for this. Sorry to hurt your eyes but I appreciate you giving this a play!

tyegamedev 2023-05-01 18:39

@Pincushion Truthfully I was going for a bullet hell wave shooter vibe while collecting. I did want chaotic and I think I accomplished this however there is never any moment to collect my thoughts like a powerup shield or a pause so I see the frustration of going into it ramped up to 100 from the start. I do address that in another comment but this is recognized and in the future I think I will focus on introducing mechanics in a better fashion as a priority to avoid turn off from being to hard.

You had the closest experience that I wanted which was die and try die and try again and again so glad I was able to nail it for you!

cosmo8 2023-05-01 20:58

Not bad! Very chaotic, if a little confusing!

jakobthequizguy 2023-05-02 11:49

Game looks interesting but unfortunately lags hard on my computer :/

tyegamedev 2023-05-02 15:24

@JakobTheQuizGuy man thats a bummer - Another reason I should have made options a priority in the future especially since most jam games are 2D I would hate to lose a player to performance. Thanks for your feedback!

rasblo 2023-05-02 19:56

The acid looks great, and the shooting and recoil feels solid. Cool take on a rail shooter, and pretty great music and sfx as well :) Great job

nhcarter123 2023-05-03 03:17

A fun FPS setup. The grabble was a bit hard for me to understand. Also I felt pretty constrained in terms of movement. But the core game loop was fun which counts for a lot!

binroot 2023-05-03 13:47

That was really fun! Imagine a multiplayer mode!

tyegamedev 2023-05-03 15:46

@nhcarter123 glad the loop felt tight as it was the focus! I did learn this genre is considered a rail shooter so labeling as such would have helped expectations - if anything I could have made this a turret on a boat instead to not have the player feel restricted as if the option to move is something that feels useless (which its not but its very very limited to your point) so I agree with your conclusions TLDR and as the rest of the comments I appreciate your input!

tyegamedev 2023-05-03 15:46

@binroot a coop rail shooter is something I would have only seen at arcade games not really a PC title - could be cool!

wighz 2023-05-03 21:53

Ah, good to find another shooter in this jam :D I didn't quite get the grappling mechanic. It didn't really stick to anything. Good shooting, well done!

tyegamedev 2023-05-04 20:43

@WigHz I did a few times have issues with the grappling hook sticking to the platforms under enemies every now and then. Thank you for the feedback! Sadly I really wish I had more time to fix that at the end :(

cogent-invalid 2023-05-05 04:27

Neat visual style, and I liked having to manage dealing with the enemies and collecting trash at the same time. The large number of enemies made things pretty chaotic, and it was hard to dodge bullets on the small raft. Sadly the frame rate wasn't very good on my computer. I think it's a good foundation for a game though.

thaprofesional 2023-05-05 04:38

Really cool sound effects and graphics. Music fit in well. Controls felt good and the shooting was appropriately weighty. Enjoyed having to balance everything - shooting, dodging, collecting. It was difficult but in a good way.

Only thing I felt was missing (which Emily-TTG already mentioned) was more feedback when getting his by enemies.

Great work :)

yuriscat 2023-05-07 05:14

Great combination of shooting and grappling hook! I really enjoy hooking things in front of me and watching my gun "excitedly fire".

I also think this game can raise people's awareness of environmental protection, it's a great game!

tyegamedev 2023-05-08 01:19

@yuriscat A goal of mine to have a hidden motive behind the creation so glad it is appreciated to spread awareness about our environment and its care!

jackboz 2023-05-08 12:01

Nice graphics! Always kept dodging. Didn't understand how to use hook until I read the comments. I liked sounds and visual effects. In general pretty solid.

aymco 2023-05-08 14:47

Nice game ! I would add some fog to hide the end of the map but graphics are pretty cool

tyegamedev 2023-05-08 16:58

@aymco I know that was on my goals but ran out of time :( Creating thick fog is on my list of need to learn how to make faster after this jam!

tyegamedev 2023-05-08 16:59

@jackboz Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you giving it a solid try even after not understanding - like I said before, wish it was more cohesive for players but I have learned from this!

svenerik 2023-05-08 17:09

Quite the fun one. A bit sad that you only had 48h to work on it, would be interesting to see what this would be like with an week of a work. Solid little game!

tyegamedev 2023-05-08 17:11

@SvenErik Good news! Working on a FPS project after this being received so well! Appreciate your enthusiasm on this <3
