It's been a while since I have practiced bunny hopping lol, that throws me back. Overall fun and (positively) bizarre game, good job!

@rhum be sure to deliver 150 pineapples to the temple to be placed in the scoreboards! :D
Very nice visuals, player moves very smooth. As a sound guy, I would suggest add some ambience sound or/and music. Maybe next time add some traps or npcs, because game getting boring after you understood how to harvest pineapples
@808074 the point is to deliver 150 pineapples as fast as possible to the temple!
Simple and solid core loop, my strategy was to continuously plant right below me while I pick a path that goes through as much seed points as possible before the first ones I planted became pineapples. This way I could just go around in a circle a few times to get 150. but I got sidetracked with bhopping and didn't get a good score :P
Visuals and sound effects are nice, some music could be cool but not necessary, scoreboard is a nice touch. Solid game overall, nice work :]
@kizilejderha Thanks for the feedback! :smile:
(You scored pretty well, actually! You're currently in the middle of the leaderboard ;P)
Cool game! I like the overall style, and the bhopping is a classic move.
I love seeing bhop mechanics outside of Source games! I'm a fan! The only thing that's missing, I think, is a fitting soundtrack. Something like this, but custom made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Xx0k_TVY0
I never could get the hang of bunny hopping but I'm glad to see it used as a main mechanic
Simple but funny little game! It was kinda hard though to see where the pineapple seeds go when you shoot as they are so tiny and green on green. But in the end that was not a big deal. I especially liked how the pinapples popped out when they were ready to harvest. Absolutely satisfying :)
Pretty swaggy game! I do have to say the game does get somewhat repeptitive after a while, traps, or maybe expanding the map slightly would be pretty neat. Nice Entry!
noooo i thought i needed to get 200 pineapples, might need to try again later :) super cool game, maybe dont repeat the pattern for the see so often
@offworlddemon definitely! too bad neither of us could compose music or find an appropriate one during the jam... :joy:
@clyde I'll tell you a secret: neither could I, before making this game :sweat_smile:
@thejan14 Agreed! In retrospective, I think we should've made the starting scale of the pineapple plants higher than `0.1`...
@moddingmachine I designed the map; sorry! :sweat_smile:
I would've liked to make it larger and more relevant to the gameplay, but I had no time :sweat:
@pixelcrustpunk congrats on your score! i think it's the highest one between jammers so far!
Want to see how you're faring against other players? Here's the...
_ugh, LDJam comment escaping mechanism broke my link..._
Very odd mix of genres but it does work, I was already familiar with Bhopping but this will be a great game to start off learning bhopping with. Very fun, I wonder how long it took you to mimic source's movement.
I don't know if it's my pc, but it kept giving an error and didn't want to open the game, you could see what happened and reload the game on your platform or something, I couldn't play, but from the description I was very interested. Even if you've already made some improvements and want to send it to me so I can test it too. I'm available.
Very lovely aesthetic in this game! Odd choice to go with bhopping as your core mechanic, but it's a pretty original idea that works for a game that's based around speed. The gun is also a clever way of being able to plant things far away and set them up to collect later rather than backtracking. Nice work!
Didn't know how to complete the game, so I ran around in circles planting & harvesting for about 5 minutes trying to optimize my route... It was fun
@angryrubberducky we actually studied both the [Source Engine's airaccelerate function](https://github.com/ValveSoftware/source-sdk-2013/blob/0d8dceea4310fde5706b3ce1c70609d72a38efdf/sp/src/game/shared/gamemovement.cpp#L1707) and [a small paper by Mikko Peltola](https://www.theseus.fi/bitstream/handle/10024/507593/Peltola_Mikko.pdf?sequence=2&isAllowed=y), who replicated it in C# in Unity :)
@belonzik Thank you! We had fun working with tilesets in 3D (we used Crocotile to design the map) and it only felt appropriate to lower the resolution :D
We wanted to make the gun shoot projectiles instead of just being a hitscan weapon but unfortunately we were a bit strapped for time :')
@glaupe-cabral Can you please provide more information so that I can reproduce the issue?
(Also, please don't spam your game in comment sections, it's frowned upon by the community...)
Turns out I'm terrible at bhopping lol, I tried my best but as soon as I built up speed I'd be like "time to stop holding space, I'm good now!"
Without a timer on screen I didn't really feel a need to do the bhopping, so my score ended up pretty low down in the leaderboards lol. I do love that you purposefully implemented bhopping as the mechanic. I think an even wider play area would have been able to make great use of it. Personally I fell into the ocean after trying to get to one of the islands after building up speed lol. So in the end I just has a leisurely pineapple farming experience. I love the way they shoot out of the ground at high velocity. It reminded me a lot of minecraft, I had a great time. I do wish there was some funky type of music that might also encourage the bhopping by getting me pumped up, lol.
Good work!
@evil23 Hi! I missed your message this morning!
You can complete the game by delivering 150 total harvested pineapples to the Pineapple God's temple!
@papabirb I'm starting to think that @ichicoro was right, and a timer should've been higher priority :sweat_smile:
Glad you enjoyed pineapple farming anyways! :joy:
Wow a score at the end ! that's very cool, i like this retro looking style
@tanguylcr congrats on [your 11th place](https://viewer.arcade.steffo.eu/?host=https://arcade.steffo.eu&board=ld52&decimals=3&suffix=s)! ;P
Neat game! If I may provide one suggestion it would be add some game juice / user feedback when shooting and planting. I love the way the pineapples launch out of the ground when they're ripe! Nice job!
Quite a risky decision you took here to base the game around a nostalgic mechanic that might only capture a small audience. But I think you did it in a smart way that even for the people who couldn't get the hang of bunny hopping (me) there was still fun to be had in optimizing paths for a good time. So great job with your game design!
My best is 2:30
I looooove this game (maybe because ive been trying to implement surf and bhopping in my own games) and I love the source movement. Despite my love for the movement based pineapple shooter, I think I would definitely enjoy a "Surfer" as much as this game is a "bhopper". Time constraints, I know. Great Game love it
Mr. Pineapple makes boom :D
I really do love bunnyhopping so just jumping around in your game is a lot of fun! (I should know, I make my LD games in a quake engine :smile:) I do wish there was more to the actual game though, online leaderboard is good but having some kind of a fail state or hard goals to challenge the player with would be cool
Fun game! A simple harvesting mechanic and nice movement. I don't really see how bhopping actually pertains to the gameplay though.
This is one of those easy to pick up tough to master mechanics, really cool use of a unique mechanic to create interesting gameplay. The atmosphere was nice, colours and sprites made it vibrant. Thanks for making this! Can't bunny hop for nuts, but that didn't stop me from trying!
@mharring Particles! We used none, yet in retrospective they would be so effective to give feedback! Good idea!
@mhorth Thanks! We think that a better map with more movement options would've been a better experience for player who cannot bunnyhop, but time constraints prevented us from building it...
@infecsean thanks! now I kinda want to go play surf on csgo :sweat_smile:
@moondweller Boom! :boom:
> I make my LD games in a quake engine —@shp
I have to immediately check out your game, then! :eyes:
> online leaderboard is good but having some kind of a fail state or hard goals to challenge the player with would be cool —@shp
One of the ideas we had to challenge the player was a rising and falling tide that would reveal platforms to the less skilled players while allowing the fastest bunnyhoppers to immediately get through them without having to wait. Sadly, we didn't fully implement it, as we pivoted to implementing the leaderboard, which seemed faster to do than redesigning the whole map :sweat_smile:
@junglerally Bunnyhopping allows you to move much much faster than by walking (I usually get up to 15 km/h, which is triple the walking speed), and by doing so, allows you to gather seeds and pineapples much faster and in turn secure a higher place on the leaderboard!
@sgtweirdo Glad you enjoyed the game!
can somebody please beat @xZefyr's score
