I'm getting these 2 errors when trying to run the game.

Nice entry! You guys never disappoint.

It took me a while to figure out the mechanics, since there are a lot of symbols and resources to keep track of and not everything is super obvious (the three cubes for duration/charges took me a while to get). Once you understand all the resources and how walls work, the game is quite fun.

I particularly liked the card design, the way it played with geometry, and the rotating ring structure that got bigger as you played. The walls were really neat, but it would have been cool to see even funkier combinations of edges (like a tower that is really good, but has three of four sides closed). Workers were a nice design decision to help the player get rid of outlying structures.

I did notice it was *very* easy to misclick. As your ring gets bigger, it eventually is behind your hand. I kept forgetting the cards were drag-and-drop, clicking one, and having it immediately place on the edge of the ring. (I also noticed it was possible to hold onto a card during a reshuffle, but don't really know how I got it to happen. That's probably some kind of speedrun tech though.)

Audio is really nice, the music reminded me a little bit of Risk of Rain 2 (probably just because that's the most recent space-ish game I've played). Lots of little polish in the UI like the button feedback when hovering over a card.

Great work, looking forward to seeing what you guys make next time!

@lex Thanks for letting us know! We forgot to package the build with the Unreal Engine pre-requisites! We've updated the download now to have that, which should fix those missing DLL issues. Please let us know if that resolves the issue?

@jeremy-ryan really appreciate the valuable feedback! Thanks for checking out the game and giving it the time to understand it. Yeah, there is a lot of detail that we just packed into tooltips rather than explained properly to the played haha! We actually did have more funky wall combos to begin, but decided to do just none, sides or top and bottom in the end. The reason: it became very confusing when placing tiles on bottom half of wheel, as it was upside down, so the wall ended up being the opposite side to what was intuitive!

jeremy-ryan 2023-01-10 09:34

@honest-dan That makes a lot of sense. Definitely trust your decision if you actually tried it.

Thanks for making this, and good luck during the rest of play and rate!

brainoid 2023-01-10 10:05

@jeremy-ryan I'm sorry we couldn't give you a cute character to draw the fanart this time :|

lex 2023-01-10 12:40

@honest-dan I'm still getting the same errors but it seems like others can play it. Maybe it's something specific for my setup here? Should those DLL be found anywhere inside the package? Because I couldn't find them here.

honest-dan 2023-01-10 13:05

@lex from googling, it seems they are two direct X based DLLs. It could be a local machine setup thing. Some suggestions on installing the direct X DLLs I found when googling the DLL names.

jeremy-ryan 2023-01-10 16:17

@brainoid Not sure I'll be making fan art this event (last event it was very fun, but a lot of work). I'll see how I feel after rating a few games, but if I do circle back and draw something from your game I'll let you know!

lex 2023-01-10 16:36

@honest-dan Oh, my bad I guess... Should have Googled it first. This is a new machine and I hadn't installed older DX stuff here yet. Working perfectly now!

I had to take some time to figure out the mechanics, but once I got it it became pretty a enjoyable experience, kinda of relaxing even.

I'm really glad you didn't put a time limit on each turn so I can take as much time as I need to think about the consequences. I also loved that you put the option to re-roll the hand at the cost of 1 power, that's pretty neat.

Congratulations on yet another awesome submission, thanks for the game.

xeke-death 2023-01-11 08:03

I *could* watch your explanation video, or I could just play a few times and get to round 19 then lose because I was getting no power cards and I ran out of power.

Not quite sure what the workers do for me, do they just count as a building for adjacency but not produce their own resource?

Nice and relaxing game. Great work, guys. I did manage to break it though. I think I clicked on a destroyed tile and the tooltip never went away.

honest-dan 2023-01-11 11:04

@xeke-death thanks for the feedback! RNG does play a role early game sadly, yes.

So workers don't cost any power. So if you need to be careful with power resource, then you can use workers. They aren't as good as a chain of buildings though, no. and they don't contribute to chains. So yes, not the best! they only last on the board 3 turns, so nice thing with them is you don't need to worry about them clogging up space on the board (like solo buildings do).

Def learned its hard to get balance right in a game like this, without writing code to deal specific cards to the player.

anstabo 2023-01-11 11:29

That was a nice strategy game entry, I could lose so much time trying to optimize the ressources. I agree a bit with the RNG comments saying it plays a big part in the game outcomes. Overall a very satisfying game when it clicks right, I played the downloadable executable and the game was running super fine and has good looking graphics! great job from you two!

rickylee 2023-01-11 18:44

Love it! ^^ very addictive, I played for quite a while I had an AMAZING run way over 100 turns, I died at around 90/150 crystals milestone, I went to take a screenshot to post here but when I clicked back on the game it auto restarted and I never saw what the final score was  could have been 500 turns haha great game guys!

brainoid 2023-01-11 21:02

@rickylee lol how long was the playthrough? :D

rickylee 2023-01-11 21:21

@brainoid hmmm not sure now, easily 30-40mins though maybe longer

brainoid 2023-01-11 22:44

@rickylee impressive. I watched people playing the game for half an hour and only getting to N/30s You played it fast too I guess. Speedrunning habits.

Thanks a lot for the kind words <3

gamesplusjames 2023-01-12 22:53

This was so much fun! While watching the stream I couldn't quite wrap my head around how it was going to work, but actually playing it (and with the help of the little video) it made a lot of sense. It was a fun balancing act trying to optimise the resources harvested while also managing the timing of tiles breaking and being replaced. Really cool concept that was executed very well! The visuals were great too, I really enjoyed how the ring fell apart (I may have seen it happen a few times...) Great work as always from the dynamic duo!

Also I really liked the little intro logo+kissy sound :D

rincs 2023-01-14 13:37

I was advised to watch the video tutorial and that REALLY helped. I think I played a few times and got better as I proceeded although some bad rng runs were also had.

The sfx was reeally soft for some reason, and I wish there was some BGM (maybe there was but it was also soft???) also (In-game volume was up to max and my computer was at 50). I might try to score higher still, but for now, this was the best I could do xD.

The only other thing (and this is a nitpick) was that I really wanted to look at the stuff at the top of the wheel just to see it closer but I don't think(?) there was a just "look" mode? Anyway, that's a nitpick more than anything else.

Great game!

yamzho 2023-01-16 14:50

I've watched the stream from time to time during the jam. You've created a very solid entry! Well done!

The gameplay is quite hard to handle, but once I had understood how things connect, my experience was better. Clean graphics/art, nice background music, the level of polish if quite high.

Can't wait to play your next game ! :)

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-16 18:09

Impressive game, as I understand it quite quickly without watching your video tutorial. However, still don't know how to clean the tile from crystals. Well done!

honest-dan 2023-01-16 18:38

@tricky-fat-cat there is no way to clear the zapped tiles! The crystal was a last minute attempt to try give the game a lose condition, as it should get harder over time as there is less space / contiguous tiles!

tricky-fat-cat 2023-01-16 18:41

@honest-dan ah, I see, but the tooltip gave me different impression. Well, in this case, it works well. Despite the fact, it's not my type of game, I spend a considerable amount of time in it (for a jam game).

andidebob 2023-01-25 22:05

Finally got around to playing your game! I saw a bunch of the making on stream, and I gotta say it turned out just as nice as I expected it to. The mechanic is super unique and works really well. I do believe that there might be some balancing still to be done, but overall this was fun and really satisfying if you actually got a good combo going that worked even after a ring was turning. Really well done!

don-fouts 2023-01-26 04:33

This was a really thoughtful entry and I feel like it's very polished. I loved the mechanics in this game and it felt like an interesting mix of strategy/rogue-lite/card game. Overall nice work, this was fun to play.

pegasys 2023-01-26 20:29

Wow this game was awesome. Great concept, cool take on the theme, insane polish - it basically has it all. I loved the sort of chaotic nature that the independently spinning rings provides. It never felt like I was forced to calculate which tiles would line up at what point or I lose, but whenever I did that it made me feel super smart lol. The only minor frustration I had was when I got to quite a safe supply of energy and population, but I never seemed to get any blue cards so I was sort of stuck waiting for when I eventually got one in a hand. Other than that though I can safely say this is by far the best game I've played this jam!

zimny11 2023-01-26 21:43

Fantastic game! The game mechanics are super unique! I had really great time playing, and that comes from a person who is not a fan of card games. Excellent job with the game!
