Your game cannot be downloaded

fastandblast 2022-10-04 03:41

I removed the LD downloads, it didn't seem to be working and itch is much more consistent. Thanks guys

morgan-cabral 2022-10-04 04:38

This one was pretty entertaining. I wasn't entirely sure why I was getting fired but I still had fun putting the boxes in the right spot.

ha-kuro 2022-10-04 04:39

Absolutely loved this one!!! This feels so polished and is a really fun game! The sound effects are so satisfying, the animations are so smooth and the whole game is a really pleasant experience! 10/10 would fork again

fishy-f1shy 2022-10-04 04:49

I had a really fun time playing this! I only have one small complaint. Getting only the boxes you want to drop off on to the palette was really tedious at points. The forgiving lock on when dropping boxes was nice; however, when I would drop a yellow box near a blue palette just to put it out of the way and it would fly onto the blue drop-off, that was annoying. Other than that nitpick, I loved it! Great work! :D

wheelsx 2022-10-04 04:50

Amazing work on the visuals, and the gameplay is fun and addictive too!

jacobingalls 2022-10-04 06:41

The macOS binary isn't set to be executable (its a Unity build bug).

For macOS users: `chmod +x /Users/$USER/Downloads/MacOS.app/Contents/MacOS/ForkMeat`, and like usual, right click open the binary twice (accepting the prompt).

Cool game! Reminiscent to a game we made a few Jams ago, so I have to like it! I thought it was cool that the boxes didn't really match the job demands, so you had to make little stacks to make up for the slack.

At least on my machine (MBP M1) the perf wasn't the best, and the forklift felt a bit jerky; not sure if that was intended. In the future, it would be great to have a resolution option so that folks like me can actually set the resolution to 1080p (or lower).

fastandblast 2022-10-04 07:28

@jacobingalls Thank you so much! My friend was having trouble with the build as well, I'll put the instructions on the download page. In terms of performance issues I didn't run into them but I was running the game on PC with a GeForce 1080. There's definitely some inefficient object management at play. Thanks for playing!

ch33sybacon 2022-10-04 14:01

Really great game, nice polish on basically everything, the song was a nice bop to fork lift along too. Literally the only thing I can comment on for improvement is that the camera felt jittery.

alpalcalad 2022-10-04 17:54

I was just enjoying driving around tbh lol. If you were to continue this it could be a rly good casual/background game without needing a score/lives. Rly good submission :P

dawnreaver 2022-10-04 18:00

Quite cool! Run into a bug where I couldn't pick up things anymore and just lost after some time :D Good fun though.

sk-katea 2022-10-04 18:02

I love the fact that you added the controls And the graphics are literally perfect 🤩

bloodyaugust 2022-10-04 18:30

Excellent entry! Very complete core loop. The controls felt very nice, and the UI/sound design was quite clean and informative. Later speed upgrades did feel more like a downgrade, and I'm not sure how useful the conveyor was, but it was totally frantic and engaging! I scored 252 on my fourth and final run. Nicely done! :tada:

chairshot-games 2022-10-05 04:45

Had a lot of fun. The forklift felt really fun to just drive around and the gameplay loop was solid. I liked the art and music too, and the level was well laid out. My only complaint was I found the game too hard. The timing of getting from place to place was very short, although I know you had limited options given the theme. Very small suggestion but can you add the controls for closing the menu to your list of controls cause it was not apparent that I had to hit R again to close the upgrade window. Overall really good entry!

braiizen 2022-10-05 05:04

Well polished with a complete simple gameplay loop! Driving around the forklift feels nice, love how the area is designed so you need to fidget a little to get around some corners. Upgrades are interesting. Only problem I had was trying to manage different boxes when under the time pressure got annoying.

boclow 2022-10-05 06:29

I had some flashbacks working in a warehouse XD forkingaround.png

Visuals are top tier and the basic gameplay mechanics are easy to learn and fun to execute! I loved that you could pack extra boxes on the palette beforehand so when the order comes, you have something there already! Upgrade shop was also nice. I was bit skeptical about the speed boost before buying, but it worked actually very nicely!

My only real problem with the game was the turning. So I have driven something like this for 7+ years and they turn on the spot XD So I had hard time getting use to having to move forward or backward just to turn. On the other had, it was fun to ram against the walls and not having to fear of breaking anything :)

Overall fun game and I had great time playing it! This feels like a game I could turn back to and play again(this could be really fun as a multiplayer even XD). If you have plans for post jam version please tell me, I am interested :D

cdmaniac 2022-10-06 10:27

I think it's the best game i had to test int this jam so far. Great level design (still unable to tell if each of the color lines on the ground are really the fastest way to go to the undock area) overall. Didn't expect any shop, so it was a nice surprise too! That being said, I do have some concern regarding some corners, who seem really exigent with your initial rotation angle. Really appreciated Forkin Around, would love to see it officialized, because even with this level of polish (which is still far superior to many other games), it's a game i will keep on my desktop for some weeks after the jam! GG

chilleh 2022-10-06 10:32

Certified forklift driver :sunglasses: The art and sounds were great! I enjoyed driving around the forklift, this definitely feels like a well polished steam game already! Great work everyone :)

nicekot 2022-10-06 14:19

Cool project! Was a bit frustrated at first with the movement and also only on 3rd run I read the message about the shop and upgrades, lol.

Anyway, looks cool, works great, nice design! Like.

decipator 2022-10-07 10:08

The concept is interesting, and the game plays well. The only thing that gave me headache was the camera strictly following the cart, would be best if it was loosely following it with some smooth damping and all.

Other than that, good entry!

tatawanda 2022-10-07 10:21

.The nice relaxed music is cool! It indeed feels very polished is funny to play it misses maybe having the shelves having their own physics and being able to run into them :D. I maybe found 1 bug, I managed to duplicate a box: I had only one red on the delivery line (well I think) and somehow managed to get two. Good entry overall!

alexsolonnikovp4 2022-10-09 09:33

A very funny game, fun) When you ride a loader, I felt the pain of drivers working on such machines, they are very uncomfortable. And at first I didn’t understand why the lines on the road were needed. But I really liked the game. Great work) And can you please work on optimization, during the game, my computer was terribly buzzing.

root-97 2022-10-11 18:03

really want to play your game but cannot open the MacOS download

bobridze 2022-10-20 11:48

The game is pretty good! I liked absolutely everything.

arcticlion 2023-03-03 09:08

Geniunely big thanks to everyone that played and especially those who left comments. I cannot stress enough how excited we were reading everyones feedback as they came in. Was actually addicting checking this website seeing fellow devs enjoy a game we've made :DDDDDD

@morgan-cabral Glad you liked it Morgan! This is great feedback as we often struggle with communicating with the player

@ha-kuro Thank you a bunch ハークロさん! Great to hear you enjoyed the many parts of our work.

@fishy-f1shy Super great to hear you had fun! Very good point, the snapping not staying locked in would've been quite frustrating for the players, love hearing pieces of actionable advice like these! Thanks Fishy

@wheelsx Thanks :D

@jacobingalls like @fastandblast said, your Mac fix was a lifesaver, kudos

@ch33sybacon Thank you for the compliments. That is a great point though, we probably got too used to camera as devs so getting some fresh meat to test it before our next submit will have to be a higher priority.

@alpalcalad Glad you thought so! (I agree the driving was quite fun to pilot) super cool you'd be interested in a casual mode Alpal, very interesting avenue we hadn't considered.

@dawnreaver Great that the game was good enough to maintain your rating despite an autolose bug lol. Will have to run that bug by @fastandblast

@sk-katea Katea we will try to not let this newly set standard of perfect get in the way of future projects but regardless thank you for the praise!

@bloodyaugust Great to hear the UI/sound design worked for you August as those are areas we are especially trying to focus on improving! Very good point about the speed, they really do become a hinderence later on but we can call that a skill testing feature 100% intended for sure. Well done with 252, I wonder what the highest anyone has gotten so far, will have to work on the global leaderboard asap @fastandblast

@chairshot-games Cool to hear you enjoyed the core loop and art stuffs. Mmm yeah I agree we didn't quite hit the ideal: easy-engaging curve on the difficulty. The game actually used to be even comically worse with the lose condition being the conveyer filling up! That should be detailed in our vid I believe. Also good point about the controls, I'll see if I can get @fastandblast to change the itch page to properlly reflect that.

@braiizen Glad you liked @gabriel-don 's level design as well as the rest of the game. And that time pressure complaint is completely fair we did get a suggestion for a casual mode that might've been an interesting avenue to explore.

arcticlion 2023-03-03 09:26

@boclow I don't think I can do our reaction to your comment justice but here's a timestamp in our latest vid contrasting your comment to our research hahah: "The Forklift Rises" 3:52 (the hyperlink was taking up wayyy too much space. We never even considered the concept that an experienced forklift driver was going to review our game. Glad you liked that game and a huge thank you for pointing out what will likely be the coolest nit pick we receive for our games for the forseeable future. Have a good one dude.

@cdmaniac Wow such praise thank you CD. Also interesting thought on the lines, I literally just whipped them up in 10 mins without even considering if they were the fastest paths. So my answer is: solid maybe they might be the fastest paths. Love the fact you loved it that much! Means so much to read comments like yours, gives us something to point at when the self doubt creeps in, "look see there's gotta be something you are doing right"

@chilleh You know it Chilleh :sunglasses: Great to hear you liked the rest of the stuff too! Steam game woah, maybe next game jam will be even better we better wait to see how that goes.

@decipator Completely fair enough, we heard a couple people complaining about motion sickness, some dampening is certainly in order for next project. Thanks for the feedback man, glad you liked the rest of the game though!

@tatawanda Glad you liked the music Wanda, here's the clip from our video of what majorly inspired our composer: "The Fellowship of the Forklift" 3:33 (the hyperlink took up wayyy too much space) if you are interested. Very strange bug find I actually haven't heard of that. The shelves having physics is genuinely and awesome suggestion. It would mean the player could spend time knocking down certain routes but risk losing an order by wasting their time on it. Also means the extra speed upgrades would be more valuable as they would be more powerful against the heavy shelves. Sick ass idea.

@alexsolonnikovp4 Another operator of heavy machinery this was wild to read as well. Hope it didn't incur too much PTSD for you. Glad you liked the game despite that fact. Ah yes optimisation was certainly an aspect we could've worked more on. If you don't mind me asking, what were your computer specs?

@root-97 4 months suuuuuurely i'm not too late to help. Re-check the Itch.io page and you should see the steps to getting it running on mac.

@bobridze thats quite a lot of things thanks bob :D

Once again, your comments really did make this jam all the more satisfying. And your ratings placed us near the top 100, bloody hell. If you are curious on what some of the more enterntaining parts of the making of looked like we now have them edited and uploaded to our channel, here's the first one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7lLmQaTvbg

Hope you all have a good one and good luck to all your future dev projects!!
