Overall a nice and simple game. The thing that confused me most about the game was that all upgrades can change every 10 seconds, which together with many enemies on the screen, can make it feel quite stressful.

@steffo oh I'm really sorry, didn't read that page before ... It's the first time I'm using this kind of tools, and in the global usual rules, content generators are allowed ("[Content generators are allowed. In fact, they’re encouraged.](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules)") ...

I guess I should change my game category to "Jam", but it's too late. I'll try to figure it out with moderators

Simple but very addictive game! I have achieved 1754 points alone, perhaps the control has been a bit complicated for me. I love power-ups, I don't see them in many games and I'm glad this one emphasizes that. Great game!

Love the idea of constantly changing the barrel effects every 10 seconds, which makes the game more strategic. Simple mechanics but quite challenging. Tried a several times but couldn't get the score over 2K :joy:

I found it's very difficult to catch the barrels since they were cast out by random direction, while my aircraft was not moving fast enough.

10emup.JPG What an evil take of the prompt :P Very challenging, cool game!

The style is very interesting and has a sense of humor. Thank you for making this game

This game must be super difficult for color blind people haha. I like how you wrote the benefits in green and the bad things in red so I didn't need to fully read the text to understand if I should collect or avoid things. That being said, I think the barrels move too quickly off screen sometimes to actually make the decision of whether to avoid or collect them.

FYI, I had to use this command to run on linux.

"MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965 ./Ten-em-up"

I played this game a few times until I found the winning strategy - beelining for the improve weapon barrels in the early game. Once the weapons are upgraded enough, you can clear enough bullets away that the only threat is the barrels. Once you're there, you can play indefinitely!

While this is definitely satisfying and it was fun seeing how far I could push it, I think it would the game would be better off if it could avoid this. I think the game could avoid this reverse difficulty curve by removing the ability to destroy bullets. The enemy bullets could be made slower as well to counteract this. This would make the higher end weapons not eliminate all risk. Enemy spawn rates could also increase.

Unrelated, it would also be helpful to have more audio feedback of when barrels would change, so you could focus more on the playfield.

I like the concept a lot, and with some tweaks to the difficulty curve it could definitely have some staying power :)

matoux42 2022-10-05 07:30

Hi @terracottafrog ! Thank you for your feedback. Yeah, the next point on my todo-list was to make a better difficulty curve in the game, but I didn't had enough time for that :frowning2:

deepfreeze 2022-10-05 15:38

Yeah, I have to agree; it's a bit difficult to get the barrels, and a bit hard to see the helicopters and their bullets. The Powerups having green text at the top, and power downs having red text at the top is good, and helps a lot with that. Audio feedback for getting hit, hitting, destroying, and barrel-getting would also be nice. The Art is nice and charming.

Good work!

Getting an error running the linux binary:

```bash [8991] Error loading Python lib '/tmp/_MEIqoO05L/libpython3.8.so.1.0': dlopen: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found (required by /tmp/_MEIqoO05L/libpython3.8.so.1.0) ```
Simple but addictive! Good Job! :D
matoux42 2022-10-10 11:36
@snesgaard sounds weird. I'll try to investigate
scifi6546 2022-10-11 04:51
Simple game, like the art. the game worked fine on linux (pop_os). I do wish the mechanics were more complicated or there was a bigger change every 10 seconds. maybe the AI or physics could change. But good job!
xparker 2022-10-11 20:01
the newly uploaded exe works just fine.
I didn't manage to unlock the winning strategy tho.. Enjoyable game overall :slight_smile:
Hey, pretty cool game, gameplay feels great! Only criticism I have is that I would have liked the UI to be a bit easier to read to know when the barrel effects changed and which ones are positive.
corporation 2022-10-13 18:34
Fun game) if you could make the upgrades/downgrades UI more noticable while avoiding enemies - I think this would made it better. Overall good classic genre implementation)
aeveis 2022-10-15 02:55
I think my highest score was 2465. Overall the small ships are very hard to hit and there can be a lot of enemies making it hard to dodge and survive, but the allure of upgrading the weapons and speed is pretty strong and I ended up trying to upgrade them for a while to see what would be next. I feel like if the ship wasn't as big, or if there weren't the small helicopters in the beginning that might make the difficulty ramp a bit better. good job!
knatt 2022-10-15 19:29
good entry! I like that It restarts super fast.
