I actually thought this was a great idea, its obviously early[made in 48 hrs] but the gameplay loops is really cool. my only problem mi could not get over was when the bamboo is floor and blocks you completely versus being able to maybe slowly get over them instead, as I had Bamboo is Floor several times in a row which made it frustrating. Anyway, great title screen, nice tight UI, easy to play[controls could be improved/ smoother feeling but you kinda get used to it as part of the game difficulty curve... Thank you for submitting, well done for doing it in 48 too !

I like how there are branching paths through the level, and it's fun to have to try and adapt to the changes in the level when it switched over! The controls are a bit floaty imo, but it did feel really satisfying going fast once I got the hang of the jump. This was fun, good entry!

The game is very innovative! Floor changing in 10 seconds is very unique. Perhaps if the player controller was smoother, it would be more fun.

xorel 2022-10-03 16:21

Really like this take on the theme where the world changes. Also a good way to make the player adapt to their environment. Bamboo seemed a bit sticky, but that was the only issue I had. Also enjoy how theres multiple paths through the level

jacobrutter 2022-10-03 16:23

Got stuck in bamboo but luckily the floor changes every 10 seconds! I enjoyed your game, a great take on "Every 10 Seconds"

clement-k 2022-10-03 16:28

Loved this game. Floor changing every 10 seconds was a great idea! Works very well in that case. Art and controls were fun as well. Nice job!

xpycm 2022-10-03 18:11

Love you idea and graphics!

fnelix 2022-10-03 21:00

Oh you, Floor! Cool concept and take on the theme, but would benefit from a bit more sophisticated platformer controls. Nice entry

itooh 2022-10-04 16:56

The concept is promising! I think it could be used even more deeply (only a small fraction of the level is changed after all). The controls don't feel very smooth, the character has a slow inertia, and there seems to be friction on all the floor, but it still plays okay. At least enough to try several technics around the obstacles! Other than that the art is nice (can't figure what the checkpoints represent, but their particle effect look cool!), and while the music quickly gets repetitive, it's nice that there is one. Congratulation for making it on time for the Compo!

Interesting idea to change the level around the character like that, I found the character movement (especially jumping) a bit sluggish. Other than that it was fun game to play! Well done!

Really funny to get the message "The floor is nothing" and just fall into a different section. More games need unexpected comedy like that. Clearly simple, and the controls could use some tweaking, but I was entertained. Nice work.

airwaffle 2022-10-08 09:31

Fun and simple! One thing I noticed is that you reduce all speed when the player collides into the wall, which makes it hard to time a jump ontop of a platform (if you hit the wall just slightly, you will not get up). I think reamoving/reducing or otherwise tweak the effect on the vertical speed when hitting a wall would make movement more smooth.

Also a bonus that you had hidden parts to go back and explore :) great work!

shibaya 2022-10-08 09:32

Great concept! Good job!

coderaurus 2022-10-08 10:10

Nice concept, using the classic play as a base. The controls were bit floaty for my taste. Good move to implement checkpoints throughout the map. Somehow the music fit the game quite well and was quite catchy.

In addition to the planned player start randomization, there could be a check for transitioning from nothing to nothing and blocking it. Because that combination prevented my progress at one point.

Nice job.

climbing-dolphin 2022-10-08 10:47

@coderaurus Yeah, it was planned but i didn't have enough time to prevent those unexpected transitions. It will be fixed after the jam.

@airwaffle This is definitely a huge issue. I wasn't sure how to fix it, but your solution might work without breaking the game. I'll try it. Thanks!

@thedashdude That's what i like in games, unexpected things that make player laugh. I'm glad you enjoyed that :D

@itooh checkpoints are... i don't really know tbh, i had no idea so i tried this kind of greeny thing...

@jacobrutter @xorel @gruff yeah, bamboo is not working... i'll fix it in the post jam version. Hopefully the level can still be finished!

I really like the idea of the random changing floor, every run is different and i'm curious to see what it's possible to do with more levels. I saw differents path to complet the level, that's cool ;) It could be interesting to force the ground to be consecutively different. Nice work !

kalendhos 2022-10-09 09:11

I think the concept could be more important in the game (But I guess, right now, I don't have any idea for that). The alternative ways was promising for that. Add an information about the next change and you can have a little puzzle game.

The physic was very difficult to understand. I think you can have a cleaner code for that ! A little inertia would be welcome.

Good point for the designs and the checkpoint (Always a good idea ^^) Love the interface, of course. ;)

jakobthequizguy 2022-10-20 16:41

I like the randomization. The physics of the player unfortunately didn't work very well. The music is quite charming and works well with the graphics!

oldcezar 2022-10-21 20:17

It's nice game with cool concept, I replayed it several times to check out all floors and to explore map. Graphics and music are also pleasant. It would be nice if map was bigger and changing zones more frequent, since with average player speed on simplest path you will see change only once. Cool game!
