I wish I had a VR headset now. That's a great idea
Interesting concept! I felt the anxiety of the press!!
Some very good and unique aesthetics! I won and survived somehow, but I've no idea how  -- though I generally could get at least some of the articles I wanted in there, I think. (This wasn't helped by how the article you point at not always being the one that is selected, especially if dragging and in a pile.)
Some sound-effects would really help, even simple ones. (They don't take long to make either if you use simple generators.)
Given the way that this is set up/implied, I thought there would be different outcomes, but it's just 'you won/survived' at the end. This wasn't really a problem though, just a little unexpected.
Fun idea! The camera angle made it hard for me to see sizes somehow. I like the concept!
Really cool. I wish I had a bit more time to make the decisions, I felt a bit frustrated with the movement of the cursor and the movement of the clippings not being 1:1. Sorting through the different clippings was a cool experience, but I didn't feel like I had time to read the headlines or really process what I was putting together beyond glancing at the icons, finding the most overall positive clippings, and trying to find a place for them.
With 1:1 movement and some more mechanics that incentivized sorting (pairing/grouping?) the clippings I think this could be a really nice experience, and a good way to tell a story.
@remco Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the mouse movement could 100% be improved, that'll be the limited time I had learning Godot whilst developing this. I have made sound effects for other Jams, however this one came in a lot later than expected, I had wanted to add in some general atmosphere and sound effects.
There's two different endings, and about 50 stories, of which 20 are limited by the choices you make further on.
@dnivie Thanks for playing! The general placement needs some bug fixing as I'm sure there's still some issues. I wanted it to be a bit frantic with the 1m10s you have to put together a newspaper, it's definitely longer than the original prototype which had a new paper each day :joy: I had wanted to add a newspaper review system so you could read the stories you put together.
Very nice, I liked the premise and overall gameplay. The REAL LIFE physics of the papers can be chaotic at times, but it doesn't take you much out of newspaper editor mood.
Haha I love 'the Leadership party' :joy: Well written and very funny, and a fun and definitely unique main mechanic for a overall unique take on the theme! I'm not sure I'll quit my job to become a journalist, but this gave me the experience all the same ;)
Interesting concept! Maybe it should be balanced a little bit
Cool idea with the layout of the newspaper. It is necessary to maintain a balance of different articles. Convenient control. True, then unused articles begin to fall out of the tray. Great job.
Really interesting and different take here. A unique setting with the aesthetics to match; I approve on that front! The angle of the camera led to somewhat wonky controls and it wasn't always easy to tell what I was doing, so I suppose I'd like to see a slightly modified interface. But overall it's a pretty neat game and I always like to see something I haven't seen much of before. Nice work!
This is a very unique idea. I haven't played something quite like this in LD51 yet. The article titles are interesting and make it feel like there's a larger world out there, which is cool. I admit, at first I wasn't sure what I was doing, but I started to understand a couple weeks in. I managed to survive the 7 weeks. Good work!
I liked the idea, and it was fun to try and read every titles.
Placing the cliping on the newspaper was really frustrating, and sometimes I had to give up on what I wanted Just because the clipping wouldn't work. I would also have liked a closer view on the newspaper, as it's the only thing we are interacting with.
I also noticed that the boss dialogue that pop up every week still allows you to place the news on the paper while stopping time
Congrats on the game, I felt like trying to sort out the resident evil 2 inventory lol, it's very challenging and fun, a big hug.
Wow. Very nice concept/idea. It's a pity that the mouse dragging control is off. Now I watch your stream where you fix the problem :)
Overall great job
Nice concept and awesome aesthetics! I made it to week 4. It felt a bit repetitive but I really like the concept, feels like you could do more and have yourself a game! (think Papers please)
Thanks for this! :)
I really liked the concept of the game. Beyond the control issues, I think the way it's presented kind of betrays the mechanics. I really wanted to see the newspaper I was building, but it was a tiny tiny part of my screen, and at an odd angle. I don't know exactly the best way to show it, but I definitely want a better look at that thing I'm making. I really liked the mechanics in picking stories, but I wanted a little more consequence to where I put them on the paper. Surely the top headline is more important than the very bottom. Something like that could be cool.
Really cool concept, with the elements for a really nice story. Controls are a bit tricky, both in picking up the stories you want and ensuring that they stay in place once played. Perhaps the 3D objects should become 2D objects when placed on the page?
I hope you continue to develop this!
Good idea. I like the graphics. Found it a bit hard to manipulate the pieces of news especially when there are a lot of them on the desk. Physics is a bit buggy but in a funny way. Very good idea to have an influence on the story by choosing the titles unfortunately, I didn't feel I had time to read them! Also, I like the idea to have a balanced front page but just trying to fit as many news as possible made me won no problem. ;) Nice one anyway. I'd like to see this game with more time to work on all those points :)
Its nice concept. I wish it would have a "stop" button, so when you are done early in the week, you could send the journal right away or you get a new one. Some little music and sound effects would help
The game worked well! I managed to survive, as the end text said - tough working conditions for those who fail at the job apparently. I felt bad for all the journalists whose stories I had to leave out
