Interesting game - I have never tried turn based cardlike games, should try it some time!

Fun game, but I do not think that it fits the theme that well

A card game for compo might be a little too ambitious. At least the one I tried to make last LD was. It kind of damaged me :sheep:

Anyway, it's a solid base for a card game, and I had my fun with it. Are you planning to work on it further?

I managed to survive for 17 turns! Interesting balance of resource generation and combat priority. Certainly with more time the variety of cards and strategies could be fleshed out, but this is a really nice base to start from! Well done!

Nice job. Sometimes I got unlucky and died without being able to draw a troop. But impressive entry for the compo!

challenge mostly feels up to luck, but it was fun and interesting nonetheless!

I made it 26 turns! I quickly went from "will I ever lose" to "what just happened to my army". I love card games, so this was fun for me. The only confusing part was how the enemy got to place and damage cards. Great game!

A great base coat for a turn based card game! I feel like the enemy always had ranged units making my back line effectively my frontline, but I suppose loss was inevitable ;) ! On my last play through I managed to survive 26 turns!

I couldn't survive for very long because my cards kept getting glitched. But the fact that you even made a card game for a game jam is awesome. Not just that, its a fun one, when it works. Some people have said it doesn't match the theme but i have to disagree. When i play a card game its inevitable that I lose.

It was fun to try this out! It was neat to see some interesting dynamics emerge, and the computer had a good strategy. Some things that would be nice to have would be more insight on exactly how strong attacks/defenses etc. are, plus having more cards available to play from to give the player more choice (and for gold to have some impact on gameplay). I found that I had a ton of gold at the end of the game, even after purchasing everything I could each turn. Also it took me longer than I would like to admit to learn that you click to set the aims of your cards and that it isn't automatic :P

Survived to round 32. The knight is OP

harmadillo 2022-04-05 18:26

Interesting game. Liked the concept. The workers/gold did not have any impact on my playthroughs and the attacking options/tactics were a bit limited.

A decent base, but I didn't feel like I had much choice about what to play, I had more than enough gold to buy cards until I couldn't and always had enough to kill all enemies until one turn I couldn't and then I died pretty quickly. I think it would have been more interesting to maybe have a seperate peasant deck and then make stuff more expensive? You would have to playtest that I guess.

Interesting genre. You implemented card combat and economy in 48 hours, which is impressive. Many feedback I have are already discussed above. The card images are a bit blurry, perhaps due to scaling?

kromeboy 2022-04-06 18:33

I think that there is a scaling problem with the UI. The game is a good start but it's way to random

candlesan 2022-04-08 07:11

I like the back row and front row concept. I was not able to figure out how to put any units in the back row but I did like picking different attack targets for my different cards. Would love to see more!

jimbly 2022-04-08 21:01

My tooltip seemed to get stuck on "Pikeman" (the first card I played?) when hovering any card in my hand, so I couldn't see the cost of what I was trying to place, which was a little confusing.

I enjoyed having an army of cards, seemed my defeat wasn't actually inevitable, maybe I was just getting lucky =). Got a little bored of doing the same thing over and over again when I had 8 troops out and he kept getting reduced to nothing...

I like having two rows of troops, that was interesting, though having to manually target felt a bit cumbersome, maybe they should all just pick a different target at random, and then manual targeting could be used on top of that, in case you want to take out someone in particular.

frank-gevaerts 2022-04-10 16:43

I tried a few times, my longest run was 31 turns. A nice little game!

At one point I had a mage card that I couldn't deploy, first when there were five cards on the back row (I assume the row was full, so not being able to deploy was probably expected), but then I I also couldn't deploy that card the turn after when only two of those five were left. I could deploy the next turn though. It also would be nice if you could "clear" an attack. If the enemy has no cards showing and you click one of your attackers, the red "pick a target" line appears but you can't get rid of it.

holysparks 2022-04-17 21:10

That is a really cool idea! Need some polish of course. Most of the time the card being shown in detail were not correct and the game screen didn't fit well on my screen somehow (having it full screen ready would probably fix it tho). Could honestly see this as a full fun game with more cards
