I enjoyed the game! Very minimal graphics but good execution. The only thing I will say is having a key to exit the game would have been nice.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD49 → Stoned!

Very cool game loved it And STONE
Well done! I played all the way through, and I appreciate how you included the end screen as a level! Good use of particle effects and I am assuming you are using TextMeshPro? It Looks great!

Feedback: (Since it is a Compo entry, I am going to be harsh, but I mean it in a friendly way!)
Hitting Escape should bring up a menu.
Controls could be more responsive. I had multiple deaths because I hit the jump button or the "turn to stone" button and nothing happened.
Could use some control-feedback. I think some of those deaths I mentioned above happened because you cannot turn to stone if your stone form already exists, it would help if there was a "invalid response" like a bit of screen shake, a color change, or a sound.
This game needs sound. Sound is not as hard to add as you might think. Audacity is free and can generate tones even if you don't have a microphone. BFXR and BeepBox.org are also both free and will generate sound for you. And believe me, from my personal experience, sound makes EVERYTHING you make SO MUCH BETTER. It really is amazing.
The 2 second timer for making your rock degrade should be more flexible. Maybe tie it to a difficulty setting? Also, it would increase the fun factor if the timer degraded just a bit slower when the player is nearby.
Need more levels! Some suggestions would be puzzles that allow multiple blocks be spawned, maybe a few where the fields cause gravity to totally reverse, some more puzzles with those sloped chutes...

With the feedback out of the way, let me again say that this is excellent. It feels smooth and solid. Your use of simple shapes is well done. I don't know if you carefully chose your color palette or if you just have really good instincts, but it looks great!
I look forward to playing more of your stuff in future jams!
Cheers!

Fun idea, the game was enjoyable. I will say that I felt like jumping was a bit unresponsive. Also I think that you should be able to make more than one stone at once because for a while I was jumping into lava rather than turning to stone and I was confused before I found out it was because I had a stone left over from before.
thanks for the feedback :) @the-lame-brain @ethanzech @toby1645 @alan001 I might fix these smaller problems once the jam voting ends :)
Nice amogus at the end :D
Great concept and execution, though it's all just a bunch of squares
A nice little game to play, good job!
Cool concept! And I like that there are enough levels to really explore it.
Hi, I think you made a nice, clean-looking! There are two things I would change above all else though: 1. Maybe it's just me but I think the 'G' button is not the right choice for the action button, that you have to reach quickly. Changing this to a mouse button for example would mean that I can fully concentrate on maneuvering the block and don't have to worry about reaching the button from the movement controls. 2. The jumping doesn't feel quite right, especially since the levels require fast jumps after landing on a stone block.
Otherwise you did a great job! :)
If I’d known it would be so funny to turn into stone ^^ Congratulations on the amount of levels available.
Could be a really great game if you continue to work on it. The difficulty ramps up too quickly. As other have said the jumping doesn't feel that good.
Very well done! The mechanics are fun and the levels are well designed. I agree that the controls are a bit unresponsive but if fixed this game would really lend itself well to a speed run type game. To make it even more so turning into a rock should destroy the existing rock so the player doesn't have to way. Overall congrats on the great entry!
I really liked this game! Clever mechanic and clever puzzles. Had a lot of fun with this one! I think it could've fit the theme a bit more, but I don't mind too much.
Good job! :)
Pretty cool little game! Great work on difficulty progression and puzzle design!
If I could nitpick one thing -- maybe you could remove a previously created stone by making a new one. But it's really a tiny thing and I still was able to complete this game and have some fun
I recorded my playthrough of your game. If you would like to see how a first-time player interacts with your game -- check it out: https://youtu.be/cXpAExWjwSw Your game starts at 10:30
@caudatecoder Thanks for the review! having gameplay along with some suggestions was very useful for figuring out things I should tweak for the post-jam build :)
Nice little basic game! Some more detailed graphics and sound would drastically imrove it I guess, but the foundation is there!
I think it would be improved if you could turn to stone if there already is one, maybe by destroying the previous stone. Also you have to quit by Alt+F4, at least for me Esc did not work
The game is good but the ending is kinda sus...
Joke aside, the game really work !!! Congrats ! The levels are fun to play and to resolve, it start easily and increase freely in difficulty, it's really an pleasure to take in it !
The timer (2s) is maybe a little too short, but the speed of the cube and the controller feel good, and it would be too easy with more time (maybe a more clear timer on the cube?)
Still ! Congrats, great work ! Hope to see you work with a visual artist and a sound designer for the next jam to make a even better game !
The music will add a lot to the game, but I get it, there is limited time to do a lot during LD. As others pointed out, the controls does not feel good. Also, the timer for rock crumbling could be a bit more generous. I like the simplistic art style, and the game mechanics are solid and interesting. So, good job!
I loved the puzzle elements of the levels. Sometimes jumping while on the stone while it was floating in a field didn't work very well - seems like you needed to land on it pretty precisely (near the top of the arc) to be able to execute a jump.
This was a fantastic concept!! I think you implemented the crucial parts really well. A lot of games (mine included) might have potential but haven't nailed a solid, fun mechanic. Even without flashier art, sounds, or music, your game is solid fun.
One thing I would have added is a death counter. Something like that is relatively easy, but it gives the player a stronger sense of how they are doing (or a reason to play again!).
By the way, I have seen a few entries use less standard archiving formats (.7z, .rar) -- my recommendation would be to use something more standard to the OS to ensure that more people have the capability to play your game without installing additional software (like 7-zip or WinRar).
Looking forward to seeing more from you!
This is a fun platforming mechanic, dropping the stone to give you a new spot to jump has a lot of potential. I would love to see 20 more levels to see how challenging this can get! Dropping the stone and warping back to the start is a little jarring, some tweaks to the speed/visuals to add some clarity and crispness to the control would push this to another level.
Thanks for all the feedback! This was my second game jam and all the positive feedback is great ^o^
Great game with pretty unique and interesting mechanics. I liked the starting tutorials as well. The only thing that might confuse a bit, it's a cooldown for the spawning of the next box
