IT IS VERY FUN! BUT VERY UNEASY! tHANK U GREAT EXPREIENCE!

nobleboy 2021-10-05 18:14

This game reminds me of why people were impressed of QWOP high-scores decades ago. Fun, odd game

javier-belmer 2021-10-05 18:22

I was crapping my pants on how funny it was seeing my monstrosity try to make its way. I love the concept, and how it'd fit into the theme.

Unfortunately some of the mechanics were either not working, or the movement was Very slow paced and dragging. I never managed to get out. Having a moving camera as your only source of visibility was A) very distracting, B) hard to understand how your construction would really operate.

I would have actually loved to see if there was a way to run it like a simulation of sorts after customising your 'Friend', rather than play yourself, and see how the different combinations give different feels.

As a composer and sound designer, I would've also loved some sound and music. I'm sure there are plenty of composers and sound designers out there who are more than happy to give auditive life to your game(s), especially in these types of jams.

Would you actually mind taking a look at our own game? It's called "King on the Mountain" Thank you for making your game! It was an absolutely great laugh.

Really fun game. wish it had more sound tho.

This game is so fun to play with! I find my ultimate solution to be 2 boosters and 2 legs. The control is fascinating and reminds me of QWOP and Getting over it. Great Job!

peachtreeoath 2021-10-05 21:07

This game just makes an awesome first impression. I had a boat with all sorts of contraptions on it and it just flailed wildly lol. I went back to the drawing board almost immediately.

What a bold decision to not have even numbers on the good components. Honestly I'd love to see if someone can figure out a way to make use of the wheel, having only 1 available. I tried a few combos but the fastest (and safest) one I could use was 2 boosters and 2 paddles.

Edit: just found your tips and tried it out. A wheel in the back is indeed very fast, as long as you can control whatever other parts you have equipped. The potential to flip over suddenly grows with that.

Overall, a VERY unique game. I haven't played a qwoplike where you can actually design your own builds. Even though I knew some combos would be a nightmare, I would experiment with it anyways just to see how crazy it would get. Easily the definition of "unstable".

Nice game with a fun core mechanic, fits the theme perfectly, i know everyone pointed that out but it lacks some SFXs

A good job overall, Keep it up!

Rotating legs are OP) Very original gamedisign but I thing cctv cameras are too much for so hard game XD

@javier-belmer I must admit I ran out of energy and time attempting to balance the difficulty late Monday night and I think the game would have been much better if it was easier to get going, just very hard to keep on track and stable. With the cameras, I also agree. I wanted to try making a game with stationary / cameras not being part of the player controller. But I got lazy and should have at have more of them and closer to the robot. On the third and fourth levels they are at least that.

@peachtreeoath thanks for the detailed comment! First I though about giving the player means to cycle back to designing and redesigning as part of the game. And perhaps I should have focused more on that and making sure the player gets to clearly see their contraptions. But then I got sucked into writing a story and it didn't really fit anymore.

annie-owl 2021-10-08 21:03

It seems like level 2 was designed to prevent any stupid leg combination to progress... Well, jokes on you, because after stupid leg combination #4 I've managed to brute-force my way through and progress!

I love the minimalist graphics and the CCTV idea is pretty cool, but most of the sweeping cameras were giving me a headache (maybe that was intentional?). Besides that, it was a very lovely game. At the end of the day I'm just happy that even an inventory AI can make a friend if he really tries

dingledorf 2021-10-09 14:15

Absolutely hilarious concept, and quite well-executed too!

playerdeer 2021-10-09 23:51

That was actually pretty silly, I did really enjoy it but like I've seen someone else point out the moving camera takes away from the actual game a bit. It's nice to keep the effect on for the feel but maybe keep the camera stable if you do a post game, or actually could do something where the arrow keys can move it so the user has control of that too?

ava-skoog 2021-10-10 11:28

Great and hilarious idea but I have to concur with the crowd that it was really hard to do anything at all ☚ī¸ Tried all different base shapes with all sorts of combinations but never managed to get very far. Most of the legs seemed not to do much at all, even the jets.

Using PeachTreeOath's suggestion I finally managed to get somewhere, but the camera swaying back and forth eventually made me too nauseous to continue, so that's something worth considering 😅

Still definitely think this could be taken places with more testing and polish, it's got QWOP potential!

flomino 2021-10-11 04:19

this game is absolutely ridiculous and i love it. its kinda tough to maneuver but it was hilarious trying out random combinations and flopping around. nice work haha

ttu-hasan 2021-10-11 05:58

good one with some interesting controls

angela-he 2021-10-11 20:34

Oh my, well this was certainly fun in a really uncanny sort of way. Definitely high marks on theme and innovation haha. I love the ability to build my own robot thing? And the dialogue was super funny.

I agree with some of the above though that the moving camera eventually made it too unpleasant for me to want to continue - it definitely upped the difficulty (good!) but made me nauseous as well.

Keep making incredibly weird stuff, the world needs more of it!

local-minimum 2021-10-12 15:28

@playerdeer If I decide to do a post-jam version then cameras will be high on the list of things to fix. I was considering letting the player select camera, and perhaps that would have worked quite fine with the current setup using maximum 5 camera per level. But if I make the cameras stationary and bring them closer to the robot, then I need to figure out something smart if the player is to control them.

@ava-skoog I agree, I desperately increased the weight of the body quite a lot right before making the final build because it was almost impossible to not constantly flip over before. I need to tweak those parameters better!

@angela-he I also struggle what to call the robot thing  Glad you liked the dialogue! The world definitely needs much more weird stuff. Though it's been too long since I made something truly weird on my own scale of things.

sibi 2021-10-13 17:03

I love the art style and the bizarro storyline! But getting any sort of not completely random movement at more than a snails pace felt impossible. But I have to admit I also always sucked at any QWOP like game. Could've done with some nice music to help with the frustration :D

dreamerflow 2021-10-14 14:31

interesting and original concept, is a fun game, wel made!

animawish 2021-10-15 19:59

Extremely funny game! I laughed out loud when I saw I could only use one wheel. The fixed cameras were an interesting choice for this game, I think they sold the vibe a lot!

timon 2021-10-16 13:20

This was downright hilarious to play! As others have mentioned the switching/sweeping became a bit much for me after a while, but I want to stress that I loved the idea so I wouldn't want it gone, perhaps just a bit slower on the moving/switching?

Your game definitely places in the top tier of games I've played this jam, a creative marvel!
