Here we go!

cheekibreeki 2021-04-27 01:55

We did man! Congratulations!

chipperswitch 2021-04-27 02:29

I like the menu song and the design of the ship. Maybe start with a bit more ammo and shields? Also a guide for which power ups are which would be helpful.

Congrats on your first game jam! Some things could have been a bit more clear (what is collectible and what can be dodged, and dying after hitting one asteroid) but the basics were all there. Fun little game, Good job!

ndrw 2021-04-27 02:40

I like it, simple and fun! I like how the asteroids "bounce" off of the ammo instead of blowing up. I agree about maybe starting with more ammo

snonk 2021-04-27 02:41

really smooth gameplay and pretty fun ! congrats on your first game jam :)

sugarsugarsugar 2021-04-27 02:59

Nice job guys!

cheekibreeki 2021-04-27 03:06

Thanks for all of the positive feedback! We realised after deploying there should have been some work on what is a obstacle and what is a pickup for the player. Dont forget to check out the shop to upgrade your ship! A armor mechanic was in the work but we ran out of time, curse you GIT merge conflicts! :)

rein 2021-04-27 07:06

The physics were an interesting touch. I think increasing the asteroid mass relative to the player's shot would make them feel more substantial. Solid entry for a first game jam though!

joedev 2021-04-27 23:48

Good job on your first jam y'all! I enjoyed the physics reactions of shooting the stuff away, including being able to shoot coins and pickups haha. Game plays smooth and its great that you got a proper menu and UI in there too.

Great job and good luck on your next jam! :rocket:

Pretty fun tunes, would like them to ramp up intensity a bit sooner (but maybe just cause I kept hitting satellites lol). This feels a bit like a blend between a SHMUP and the arcade classic Asteroids, if you were to keep working on this game I'd explore that a bit further. Maybe make shooting the asteroids split them into more pieces, and have your ship's movement go fully inertial. Anyway just some ideas. Good job!

cryptomnesic 2021-04-27 23:57

Recommend you just use Itch.io to serve it up in future, I couldn't get sharemygame.co.ru or whatev ghetto site that was to load properly

teh-thanos 2021-04-27 23:57

Nice game I really loved the graphics (minus the background sorry). You should consider making a bit clearer what is a collectible and what should be dodged because it wasn't that clear, something like a light or not being able to shoot them, also maybe less of them? An other thing is that the controls felt a bit "choppy" with sudden fast acceleration at times. Other than those the game is great especially for a first jam entry. Oh and you have one really annoying red pixel on the bottom left of the spaceship....

nikolaj 2021-04-28 01:17

fun! challenging too, i enjoyed grunting in frustration every time i died after 1 hit!

cheekibreeki 2021-04-28 03:30

@rein Good idea!

cheekibreeki 2021-04-28 03:31

@gregfagan Thats something I didnt even think of, but feel like I should gave. I think splitting astroids sounds fun to develop and I will probably add that in for fun.

cheekibreeki 2021-04-28 03:32

@cryptomnesic For sure.

timeloopedpowergamer 2021-04-28 08:35

Tough but fair-ish.

eugenik 2021-04-28 13:16

Cute game, liked it! =3.

buckmeister 2021-04-29 20:30

Fun albeit a bit on the tougher side. The physics based weapon system is a nice touch. Maybe adding different kinds of weapons like a laser that could cut the asteroids or a rocket that explodes them could add more diversity if you'd like to develop the game concept further. Congrats for the first jam!

villanelle 2021-05-03 22:14

Nice physics and sounds. My only struggle was that the velocity of the objects in my screen increased a lot in very little time, but I get this is supposed to be a tough game. I liked it!

duo-afgebeld 2021-05-07 21:59

Cute game! Because you have so little ammo, I found myself dodging everything and not shooting at all. I think the static background is a bit too bright.

moski 2021-05-18 15:34

My expectations of "all sidescroller shooters are more or less the same" were pleasantly shattered.

firefox_UJE5P2NV93.png

"Deeper and deeper" seemed to go hand-in-hand with space shooters, so I expected many to be more or less the same. And seeing that it's your first jam entry (by the way, welcome! I hope you had a blast this time around, and that you participate with us more in the future!), I thought it'd be more or less that.

Yet, yours was a pleasant surprise due to some unique design ideas: Making it physics based and with limited shots. No button mashing, no predictable enemy patterns. It's quite genius if you ask me. It takes a bit of time to get used to it, but honestly, it's well worth it. The upgrades are a nice addition which don't feel intrusive as well.

It just needs a wee bit more of polish to really pop. It all works well, but some indicator of being hit by an asteroid could really sell the experience. Just touching it, seeing it slide away and a sudden Game Over screen feels a bit sudden. Though odds are that you did your best with the time given still, so it's no big deal regardless!

Always good to see people try new things in these game jams. With dozens of thousands of submissions, it's expected to see people try known genres, but giving them unique spins is what makes Ludum Dare so fresh! And people like your team make it all possible! Keep it up! 🐳
