Nice graphics and overall design. Not really sure how to sync up. I just pressed X when over the text, but that didn't seem to work (never got higher than 1 DIVE).
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Memory Dive

Things I liked: - great music - great theme - great game concept - really interesting story
Improvements: - this art style is screaming for fluid and wispy animation - maybe it breaks the spirit of the game; but some form of progression with the characters to tell you how much there is to find out about that person in dives - I didn't need to dash mechanic at all, but adding to much complexity to the game to need it also takes you away from following the story - some way to review the longer memories; the scroll pretty fast to be able to be read with high comprehnsion... maybe leave the memory in the dialog window after syncing and have the player to confirm exiting the dive once they finish reading.
Bugs: - I didn't find any
@eeperdeheap I'll definitely keep an eye out for that bug and fix it if I can. The user should be able to just hit X any time the text is in the dialog box. I imagine my game states are somehow getting scrambled during gameplay.
@bw-devel Sprite animations and advancing dialog were in the "stretch goals" but oof, sometimes I wish the compo was 3 days instead. Thanks for the feedback, I didn't even consider idea of adding in a memory log but that makes perfect sense. Also I could have probably kept the longer memories shorter or split them into different sections due to the lack of time they're on screen.
Great concept (as you've heard ) Took me a bit to get the idea of the "Sync" but I liked it. Story driven games are one of my favourite since I don't have great Twitch skills anymore. Thanks for sharing this!
Great concept. You really got the deep concept to the deepest levels. I like how it's story and action driven at the same time. The graphics are gloomy and the music accompanies the mood perfectly. It took me a couple of tryings before getting the syncing right. Excellent work!
Really nice entry! Everything is good! But maybe a more clear explanation of the "sync" system and maybe add voices during text showed up would be a real plus! Tough it was one of the best entry I played so far! Great job!
That's a lot of dialogue to figure out in such a short time ^^ This was really cool. The mood definitely hit home and although the sync mechanic was a bit tricky to understand I finally got it. I really liked figuring out what had happened and using that knowledge to think about which memory was the next clue.
Well done :D
Nice idea, great mood (graphics, sound and writing working well together!). I found it hard to read the text while dodging -- especially the longer bits of text. It also took me some time to understand the "sync" mechanic.
The pixelart is insanely amazing, the storytelling is good. The vibe in general is pretty cool, the music is simple but fits perfectly.
The gameplay is very confusing tho, I only understood what I had to do by reading the comments here. Even after reading, I didn't know how to figure out which memory should I sync with (For example, in the second level you have to "sync with a memory of her friends", so I synced when I read "It was good to see them again", but that wasn't it)
Some suggestions to make it more engaging: - Simple animations on the sprites, even if it's just 2-3 frames like the fire, will make the world feel much more alive. - Some visual and auditive feedback whenever you dash or get hit. - Put a little bit of work on the itch page (background, etc.). You can do this even after the deadline. With your art skills you can definitely craft something eye-catching, and I guarantee it makes a difference
You have something with a lot of potential here, keep up the good work :)
I love the visual aesthetic and atmosphere of this game. The music really helped set the mood, although it only came out of one speaker for me.
It took me awhile to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but going back and reading the entry's description cleared it up. An in-game explanation would have been nice.
This is obviously a story-focused game, but the gameplay unfortunately competes with the story, instead of helping to tell it. Dodging the obstacles prevents the player from really focusing on the story. The "correct" memories seemed arbitrary, and it was annoying having to read through them all over again to find the "correct" one. Once the "correct" memory appeared, it was too long to read while avoiding the obstacles, so I couldn't follow the narrative.
Nevertheless it was certainly a unique and atmospheric experience. Good job!
Loved this take on telling a story, some more feedback on which memory can sync well would be cool. I can see this mechanic be used in multiple episodes with different variations for a longer game.
Really nice character design. Good job.
A really fun game! Saw a few games with a dream/sleep theme but they are so all unique, including this one. Great job!
realy nice game, with some more time put into it this will become realy good. pixel art was good. interesting take on the theme. personaly the memory dive was abit simple, but considering the time used realy nice.
I didnt understand the concept of 'sync'. I tried to take some hits and wait for the MP, after I tried to take some hits and press sync. On the first level it works, its shows that I made the sync, but I dont know how. Maybe a better explaining for that mechanic! Music and art are greats, you have a good UI. Congrats for the game ! =)
Great music. Great theme. Great game concept. But I didnt understand the concept of SYNC...
A very unusual game. It's good that there is no "end game" state. I had trouble figuring out what exactly I was supposed to do. Given that, I like how you tied memory into the game-play. A good use of the theme. The audio is top-notch.
I definitely had some trouble figuring out how to sync up with memories. It could definitely have an in-game explanation, or even just a better guide to how it works on the Ludum Dare game page. I synced up with the second memory of Leslea, and the really long one from Trent- though it felt like there were too many choices, and it would take a very long time to guess and figure out which memories are the correct choices to make.
Really cool game, but I wish there was some more direction. From my perspective it felt more like guessing.
Oh- and the artwork as absolutely incredible!
