very tense. the slow lava and the slow digging makes it even more so. i think if the atmosphere were darker it would've been an at-the-edge-of-my-seat experience. i wish the number of crystals you had to collect was something like 10 instead of 30, because it took a long time to run away and collect at the same time. overall good job :)

shaggyfox 2021-04-26 13:41

Hey thank you @frogmen! you would laugh but in the first builds i targeted 100 instead of 30 :D

not bad not bad

I loved the intensity of this game!

I found myself constantly saying "come on... dig faster..." under my breath while playing through this, which lends itself to close and fun moments. Collecting gems gives a fun challenge, while adding more pressure to do well. Great job with the graphics, although audio was lacking.

Overall amazing experience, great job making this game!

pseudohausen 2021-04-26 15:11

It feels like the screen moves too slowly, but the lava feels to fast. The time it takes to dig into the "rock" where the gems are found felt very long as well. I really like the idea though, just needs some tuning to really shine!

Hi very nice game! I like the theme and the gameplay.

My only complaint is that you have to wait to dig down while the screen scrolls. We both know that 48 hours isn't enough time to make a game  but I think you are on to something here!

Keep up the good work.

Dig dig dig Run. Dig dig dig run  This was fun. Managed to escape with 3 extra crystals on second run through. Some background music would've added to the atmosphere. Awesome job. Thanks!

quinn-patrick 2021-04-26 15:19

This was a really fun, original idea, with a surprising amount of strategy, so good job. There was one point where I figured out that I could dig long, serpentine horizontal tunnels to make the lava take a longer path, but then it just filled one of the tunnels all at once when it got close to the top of the screen? That was a little weird and it would be cool if that strategy worked.

kristinamay 2021-04-26 15:23

This was very cool! When I saw the lava following me down my little dug hole I was like "OH NO" - do the green crystals do anything? Also, I didn't quite make it to 30 crystals because I kept getting frustrated that the scrolling wasn't following down fast enough for my little digger. This feels polished, well done!

Thank you all for your feedback :)

@ianthebee,@pseudohausen: actually my plan was to speed everything up in the polish-phase but after some play-testing I came to the conclusion that i liked it the slower-way

@kevin-s: When you have to wait for the lava ... you are to fast ;)

@doc-kaos: I had the plan to do some music but ran out of time

@quinn-patrick: Jipp, you are right, the top most row is filled with lava. I added that very late as a bugfix to prevent the lava to get stuck (when out of screen)

hungryroy 2021-04-26 15:47

Nice! Pretty fun, but also intense since the lava always catches up quickly when you try to spend time digging through the hard rocks.

ianthebee 2021-04-26 15:58

@shaggyfox Thanks for responding, but I actually prefer the slower speed  sorry for the miscommunication on my part!

dooleus 2021-04-26 16:09

fun and interesting risk/reward mechanics, would greatly benefit from music, and maybe having a lower number of target gems and multiple levels with increasing difficulty/speed. good job!

mockthebear 2021-04-26 19:21

For a moment i tought the lava would simply phase trought the walls and digging straight down were the meta. But hey, its quite fun!

chumzy 2021-04-27 02:32

It's pretty fun for a bit but gets quite repetitive after a bit. Also it's kind of weird how the lava will just spawn if a spot at the top of the screen is open.

phthalogold 2021-04-27 06:29

The game was fun and neat but I felt like it was a bit too long. I would have preferred less crystals to collect - maybe 15? It was engaging and fun otherwise though, and nicely polished with good UX.

eugenik 2021-04-27 20:08

Congratulations, creative idea. A crazy game.

shaolin-dave 2021-04-28 03:34

Beat it on my 3rd try with 3 extra crystals. Controls are good, didn't need any instruction to figure it out. Main issue was that on my first playthrough I though the stones weren't breakable and assumed I hit a dead end. Secondly, the lava doesn't flow realistically. I tried to strategically reroute it by diggin down, retracing my steps and going sideways. I also tried digging big rooms that I assumed would fill up before the lava professed. Neither strategy worked, but I think that would have allowed for some interesting gameplay. Sprite work is excellent. Sound is basic but does it's job well.

refrax295 2021-04-28 16:51

Nice game with an interesting idea. One suggestion I'd make is to have the camera follow the player so that they can move at their own pace.

binaryprinciple 2021-04-28 17:42

I liked the dig dig mechanic. The idea is fun and the design clear.

I felt like the time to break the stone should be a little bit faster, or allow me to chain blocks and multiply it's speed.

Overall a fun game.

jason-wilson 2021-04-28 18:38

Loved the pixel art and the concept was really interesting. I'd suggest adding some feedback on the rocks to let you know that they are breaking down when you hit them. Like cracks appearing, or something.

It also felt like it took a long time for the magical gate to appear after collecting enough gems.

Other than that, I thought it was a fun little game. Great work!
