Love the visuals. Except for the 'rocks' they are way too similar so it took me a while to spot it. Well done.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Beans in space!!

This one a really good one. The visuals are awesome and the music just completely matches. I wish you could produce more levels, I was just getting the mood in the end when it finished :(
A good job man!
i will be 100% Honest with you, the game is a bit fun until level 4 where you can't pass it & it's weird why you named it Beans in space, cause in my 15m of playing the game, i couldn't find either a bean, or a space, i would say a bit of a good concept.
@mdotedot, @mudlee, @imzary Thanks for the feedback and for playing. Almost all graphics was placeholder graphics that ended up not being updated, but yes, the rocks are a bit bland. Would be nice to be able to do level design, I did it all in the Unity editor, which isn't optimal when some tiles are not tiles but game objects with scripts (tiles with scripts are not a thing in Unity.. Yet.). @imzary I've played through the entire game a lot of time, and all levels are passable. I do like that you despite the issues played for a full 15min  Beans are all over and space all around.
Thanks for all the feedback, thanks.
@incd021 Ok, maybe i am blind idk  lmao
@imzary Or I suck at drawing.. Bean.png
This was my attempt to draw a coffee bean.
@incd021 LMAO, i thought those were coffee beans
Reminds me of the DOS games I grew up on. I also liked the Bubble-Bobble-style level transitions.
Having to restart over on a death was brutal. After dying on the 4th/5th level a couple of times, it completely killed my motivation to continue. Just that little change would be a huge improvement!
Overall, good work! I like both coffee and space :)
@andrewkennedy You got the Bubble-Bobble reference  It wasn't planned, but the when I implemented the scrolling to next level it was so obvious that I had to add the bubble.
I know the restart on death is brutal, but as the game only has 5 levels, and can be completed in under 1 minute. I didn't think it would be an issue. :/ Thanks for your feedback
Moreeeee coffee!!!! But seriously, I always liked Sokoban-kind of puzzles, so I enjoyed this game! I found my fiancé, made buckets of coffee and all was well with the world :).
I didn't like the music at the beginning, but it grew on me and I found that, along with the level transition effect, it kinda had a hypnotic effect. Graphics could use some improvements, for readability’s sake: projectile color, for example, is so similar to the background that I didn't even notice that something was shooting at me when I first run the game and I promptly died. Good times :). Same with pushable blocks, some color variation would be nice.
Now, it's "Did You Know This Stuff about Your Game" time! Did you know that: 1. You can cheat in the pre-last level [**redacted**] 2. You can pick up a coffee bean by pushing a block into it. Bean-grinding included ;). 3. "Best time" is always stuck at 99.99, never changes.

@fabula-rasa Thank for the serious feedback :) I'm fully aware the graphics aren't optimal, to say the least.. Graphics was placeholder graphics that ended up not being updated, ran out of time. Didn't think about the bullets having a more clear color, noted. The timer thing is already listed as a known bug. Picking up beans with boulders I liked so much that I kept it in the game. Makes sense when speed-running. I know you could cheat... 🤫 Now everyone knows. It is a bug/feature, collider should just be smaller and in the center (is currently full sized box collider).
Thanks for playing! and for the great feedback.
@incd021 Oh no... I reveled a secret! I'm so sorry! *punches oneself*
Edit: I fixed it  Now the secret is safe again.
Nice game. I like the visual effects and the general idea. I didn't get through the last level, in part because I really didn't want to spend two minutes every time I died going through all the earlier levels again just to die again by getting timing wrong...
@frank-gevaerts Thanks for playing :D I wanted to be able to make it a speedrunning game, where you had to finish 5 levels each run. But I can see as it's a puzzle it might not be my best idea. Thanks for the feedback, and for playing
@fabula-rasa No problem, but thanks anyway
Really nice little puzzler, I didn't mind the sprites at all and found them quite charming, it did take me a little bit to notice the difference in pushable blocks and the lens distortion effect was a little bit disorienting to me but otherwise fine. Definitely think it should push you back to the start of the level when you die instead of the start of the game, maybe having a "Reset run" button to go back to the beginning for speedrun's sake. Regardless I still had fun with it and think you did a good job!
@smooches I've followed your advice and have already made it so you only restart the current level. But the rules say that I can't update the game until after rating is over. So that version will have to wait. Reset Run is in there just press ESC
Thanks for playing and for the feedback.
This is an interesting puzzle game. I like how gently you show mechanics, one at the time, and then throw a bunch of more difficult levels. I loved the visuals resembling old games and the attention to details: volume sliders, high score, speedrun timer - the things you don't anticipate in a jam game.
I would suggest decreasing the collider radius for boulders (I've pushed them unintentionally several times, ruining the run) and increasing them for beans, so it's harder to miss them. And the music was a bit too high-pitched for my taste. But it's all the minor stuff, this game was a pleasure to play! :)
Here you can see me playing through the first levels several times:

@yngvarr Thanks for playing.. I can see what you mean about the colliders (6:02, and again at 7:25, sorry). I'll fix it in the post jam version.
A small secret; the music isn't music, I needed a placeholder, and just drew something with the mouse in LMMS, and I didn't have time to change it. You can just turn the volume all the way down if itøs driving you nuts. I do.
I love that you figured out the puzzles, as intended after a few tries. But I do see the need for savepoints for each level.
I have NO idea why it didn't display the correct time under best time. Thanks for rating and for playing
I like the retro feel of the graphics and audio, its simple but I find it looks good. Overall its fun to play and I the puzzles are good, though reverting to the start of the level instead of the beginning would have been nice, perhaps with a score reduction to balance it. I also liked how all mechanics are explained to the player through level design instead of an explicit tutorial.
I really like the effect on the screen, looks really good when going to the next level
Cool game! Well designed puzzles (even though a little too easy) and very appealing visuals, especially the curved distortion and level transitions.
Simple but fitting audio. Reminds me a little of steve reich, minus the compositional complexity ;)
However (as already stated by the other comments) it's a little frustrating that there is no option to restart a level and that dying (or messing up box placements, forcing you to reset) makes you replay the whole thing. There's no good reason for that since there isn't really mechanical skill involved in completing a level, so once you've solved the puzzles you don't really get anything out of replaying already completed sections. It's not that big of a deal considering the games length and difficulty but it does somewhat taint the otherwise great experience - but I know how easy it is to misjudge the importance of these things amidst jam stress.
Overall good stuff though, especially considering it's a compo entry.
@romanempire I’ve already implemented restart to current level as others have also mentioned it. But the rules say that I can’t update the game until after rating is over. So that version will have to wait. Glad you liked the puzzles as it's my first puzzle game ever.
Thanks for playing and rating
@preda I too like it, and it didn't take very long to implement, and it gives some more life to the flat graphics. Thanks for playing and rating.
@hoichael the distortion didn’t take very long to implement, and it does a lot for the flat graphics. The "music" was something I just drew with the mouse in LMMS, to have a placeholder, and I didn’t have time to change it. But most seem to like it... After a while.

I know the puzzles arent' great, levels 1,2,3, and 6 were placeholders, made, and never changed. Only levels 4 and 5 were actually puzzles that I spend 5-10 minutes on.
Thanks for the great feedback, for playing and rating
The graphics are nice, the sfxs are good, but the music is a bit eerie and the decision to restart the whole game after death is a bit punishing. I would really like to play through it, but i got frustrated that i have to redo the whole game if i do a mistake.
@themorfeus Thanks for the kind words :D I didn't really *decide* to restart the whole game after death, just how it started, and I never thought about changing it. But I now have implemented restart to the current level as others have also mentioned it, being annoying. (Can't update yet, coz of the rules)
And as mentioned in reply to others' comments, the “music” was something I just drew with the mouse in LMMS, to have some placeholder music, and in the end, I didn’t have time to change it. But most seem to like it… After a while. Must be some kind of brainwashing?
Thanks for playing and rating.
I have conquered the game! ah hahahaha i saved somebody at the end. :-) I liked the crt graphical feel to the game. The clear communication of the puzzles and the interesting mechanic of investing early beans to make later bean requirement or forgiveness beans a reality. I appreciated it. didn't care for back to start respawns, but *shrug* i managed regardless. :)
@commanderstitch Glad you liked it, the graphics isn't as interesting as yours in your game. You are the first to mention the tactics of collecting all beans in the beginning to nave it al lot easier later on. Nice :)
Thanks for the feedback, playing and rating
I like the audio and the retro style! The game is really hard. I was dying like crazy  I didn't win but I'd like to try to make it in the future. Waiting for your next creations
Really enjoyed the game. If you want to extend it, try to add more mechanics. Graphics and sounds create very interesting mood. Good job!
@terrykk @sandra-jasionowska Thanks for playing :) If you haven't already you can see @yngvarr play through it all here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn0Vjkbhmzo
I had plans for multiple enemies, door mechanics, reflectors and so much more. But as always, the limited time did that I couldn't get t all done.
Glad you both liked it. Thanks for the kind words :)
A Game about Coffee, what could go wrong.
I enjoyed playing the game and like the process of learning it. Unfortunately iam not sure to solved the one before the last level properly but I enjoyed playing and completing the game.
Well Done and Great Job
@deathstorm I had fun watching you play it :) And yes you solved it perfectly. Level 4 you solved BETTER than anyone else I have seen, and better than designed, very impressing.
Also no one, and I mean no one, has mentioned anything about the 2 missing wall pieces that allowed you to go outside the level. I didn't even notice until you just walked out of the level. Must remember to ask you to test the upcoming and updated version.
Thanks for playing and rating
You already know it but for completness' sake, here's the stream again: Here's my time with it on my stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2X3tRskS-U You would think that I should have improved my skills by now 😅
