Dig Dig!

fermingimpel 2021-04-27 01:01

I am a dwarf & i'm digging a hole, diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole.

Its hard to understand, but, looks very good, and the sounds are greats

augcart 2021-04-27 01:01

Very cool ! I enjoyed the sound design and graphics. Maybe the instructions can be more clear but this is a pretty nice game ! :D

mad-sensei 2021-04-27 01:03

What a crazy contraption! Very well made systems and gameplay. Congratulatioons

patvanmackelberg 2021-04-27 01:10

Not my typical genre - but once I figured out the asterisks beside their names were health - it all made sense! Awesome game, great use of the theme :)

nopogo 2021-04-27 08:38

how did you get the warcraft orc voice actor to VO for this??? amazing 10/10

paulloz 2021-04-27 13:03

Had a hard time figuring out how everything work. Once I did though, it's incredibly rewarding to balance everything and managing everybody like a well oiled engine. Good work!

gabriela-moura 2021-04-27 15:55

Well done!

I really loved the visuals on this game jam entry. To me, it looked AAA quality, so great job with that. The audio was also done very well too. The game itself seemed very strategic too. it would take me a few tries to work out exactly what to do, but I felt engaged while playing. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Good luck in the jam!

doctortm 2021-04-27 19:33

Very nice jam! As everyone said, a tutorial would be very helpful. Overall amazing game, good job!

juliestrator 2021-04-27 19:33

Really fun game that makes you think and challenges you once you give it couple of tries to fully understand the game logic. Would def benefit from a tutorial, but i understand that it hard to do in 3 days, so that's just my wish for the steam release. where do i preoder?

whysguy52 2021-04-27 19:44

wow. A little more explanation would be nice but enough trial and error could probably figure it out. I love the little animations and the board game feel.

potti 2021-04-27 21:02

This really feels like a board game, and looks great! (Although, were are the dwarven dice of stone to roll dig speed and diamonds?)

I got too like -1500m, but stopped getting voice lines at like -900m, and no matter how often I dug, I did not get past 10 diamonds. Also, it got quite tedious at that point once i found a positive feedback loop.

All in all: Excellent work!

Some bugs I found: 1. Dwarfs do not always get hidden behind the machine (image 1) 2. There does not seem to be a maximum health (image 2, also would be cool if the dwarfs were animated [e.g. when closing, move them "with the floor", but keep them pointing forward]) 3. once dwarf population exceeds 7 or 8, they start appearing at random places, and overlapping each other in the cafeteria, which is tedious 4. Repairing the machine did not cost dirt for me 5. The background shift animation jumped at the end (maybe because 16:10 display)

This doesn't feel like Jam game. Very polished good graphics amazing humor 😂 love it

blue-pin-studio 2021-04-29 02:08

Great submission! I enjoyed the voice acting very much, and the drill felt really good. One improvement that i can think of right away is a tutorial. It might be just me, because everyone else seems to be really good at it, but i had no idea what i was doing and couldnt get a score higher than 400.

greenblacksky 2021-04-29 14:04

This game looks fantastic! Voiceover is great and gameplay feels very satisfying. But at one point game bugged out and I lost all my dwarfes( Or it was by desing, kinda hard to tell...still, great experience) UDP: It finally occured to me that each dwarf has limited number of turns before he leaves, it's not a bug, it's a feature. And a quite cool one. It feels a little too limited though.

alexascher 2021-04-29 22:22

Great game! It takes a while to figure out how it works, but it looks and sounds amazing. Sadly, I got stuck somewhere: many dwarfes, many dirt, but no energy. Would like to come back later and try it one more time. Nice job, guys, I wish you good luck!

geo3d 2021-05-01 14:37

Great game! It was difficult to understand what's happening and what to do at first without an instruction/tutorial page but after some time it became clearer.

Very well made. Great graphics, audio and game mechanics. Awesome work.

saltysa 2021-05-01 20:12

I'm not sure I understood everything, but it's still a really impressive game! The visuals are really unique and interesting, and I really liked the voice acting. The animation of the drill drilling is really satisfying

I would have loved a tutorial or something at the beginning to appreciate the game to its full potential

fribolin 2021-05-03 13:19

The game is pretty cool and it's amazing that you were able to make somewhat of a strategy-game. At least a game where the player has to think. What I really missed was a tutorial though. The mechanics aren't that hard, but it still took me a while to figure things out. I don't know if I had pushed through that if it wasn't a game jam. At first I didn't even notice the mining room, because it was under all the locked rooms. Besides the missing tutorial, the game was great to play, you can really sink your teeth into it.

florianduf 2021-05-03 13:40

Good job.

I play a long time on your game :)

They are some minor bug. But it's normal for a game with this ambition :)

I found the game mechanic very interesting :)

salier 2021-05-03 14:55

Excellent entry!

A few problems particularly concerning the job reset on turn end with a population of around 10 and more. Also it took me a while to understand what you meant by "CAP" since you can still place more than the room limit.

The idea and its implementation are awesome, loved how the very good voice acting comes in to add another layer to the theme.

Loved it!

It's very beautiful! The music sounds great, and you did a great job with the narration. I also like the little things the dwarves say. There's not a lot of strategic depth to the game - after a few minutes the player's figured everything out and it's just a matter of carrying out the process. But then it becomes a medium for the storytelling, which is cool. Moving the pieces gets a bit fiddly when there are lots of them.

recher 2021-05-13 14:13

Beautiful graphics, but the game in itself is quite short and has few contents in the mechanics.

Some people said it lacks a tutorial. I do not completely agree. I would say it just needs a little more feedback on what is happening :

- a detail of the lost/gained energy and dirt you get at each turn, - little hearts above the dwarves to realize immediatly they have health, - icons telling you have unlocked the solid hull and the double dirt production, so that you do not wonder if it can be unlocked many times, - etc.

Also, written subtitles of the story elements you get when you go deeper would be appreciated. I am not a native English/American. It's sometimes a bit hard for me to understand spoken english, especially when the voice has music and drilling sound in the background.

There is a bug when you pick a dwarf, then click on "end turn" without placing it. It stays attached to your mouse cursor and it is difficult to put it back in a room. I managed to do it by clicking everywhere in a panicky way.

I got to -210 meters, then realized I will not have any more than digitized voice I am not sure to understand, so I stopped.

Nice game and very nice graphics, but I would have wanted more elements and more stats/resources to handle.

This is probably the last entry I'll play for LD48 in time for ratings. It's a shame it took me this long, but on the bright side, I feel like with this game it ended on a very strong note for me.

I really like this kind of worker management-survival game, especially when it's turn based. At first I didn't really understand the game, idly throwing Bill and Ted around until a bunch of X's stopped me from doing things and only one dwarf remained. Once it all clicks, the mechanics work well together and the real pressure of long-term welfare vs. profits draws you in.

The art design has this awesome diorama feel to it, and the sort of middleground between a board game and stylized 3D was executed very well. I was at first worried that the music would end up being too intense of a score for the game, but it ended up being a really solid orchestral loop that carries the theme very well and hits those minor notes at all the right points, and it gives the whole thing a sort of ominous tone.

I think Recher's suggestions are a great step towards improving the first time experience with a little more transparency, but overall I think this is a really fun entry. Great work!
