You can biuld a Mac version? Tks

ashashza 2020-10-06 09:01

@unicornfrog Sure, I got you friend. There's a MacOS build up now. No idea if it works though :o

keithdae 2020-10-06 17:45

Really nice and fun game! I may have cheated a little but I still won, right ? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: https://puu.sh/GA86e/c6457f14c1.jpg

ashashza 2020-10-12 08:15

Hehe, thanks @keithdae. That's definitely cheating and definitely winning too

whynotyt 2020-10-12 10:26

Wow!, The Graphics and the Music Were just intoxicating. The Gameplay was solid Too. Only Thing That Kinda Bothered me was not being able to delete placed buildings. Other than that 10/10.

doot 2020-10-12 10:50

This is fantastic.

The tower defense mechanics are simple, but very well thought. I loved the fact that there is no way to lose and a clear goal with an ending before it gets repetitive. I loved the art, the music choice, the ambient sounds, everything leads to a perfect mood. Even the fact that you don't quite understand what towers do exactly or if a strat is better than another one leads to this great feeling of comfort you have when playing.

Thanks for the game I loved it 💕

HTML5 version should be easy to do with unity, maybe push one if you want more people to play?

jrevel 2020-10-12 11:54

Cool game ! That is a good take on the tower defense genre, I like that you don't really kill the enemy but just try to scare it away. The difficulty scales well throughout the game, I struggled a bit to reach the end but it was never frustrating.

antihedra 2020-10-12 11:54

This is cool, it has an awesome atmosphere. The placement could have been better, sometimes when a hut gets destroyed with defenses close to it, I can't replace that hut, solid gameplay though - I thought it'd be way easier than it was.

voidsay 2020-10-12 11:55

@ashashza I see you take build requests? Is there any chance to get a linux build?

theinkskeleton 2020-10-12 12:05

Woah. It's incredible.

Music was very relaxing, and mixed with the seagulls noise was even better. The graphics were really cute and nice, and made the game very pleasing to watch. It's easy and calm, and makes you want to stay even after you've won. The game also plays really nice, only problem is maybe sometimes I couldn't click on an option to select it. But without that, it's really intuitive and fun. Congratulations on this amazing game!

darkmax14 2020-10-12 12:06

Had a lot of fun making rings of stone lobbers to stave off the seagulls. One thing that could do with a little improvement is some indicators for the space being taken up by any given structure. It get's quite hard later on to find places to squeeze more huts and you can't really tell how well you're placing them as you go.

bentekiller 2020-10-12 13:55

Ran out of fish on the first try with no tower to attract more so had to reopen the game. Was playing super defensive at first with lot of slingshots that enclosed the hut's, and at 80 fish I spammed the huts and quickly gained the last amount of fishes. I really like the aesthetic and mood, although simplistic comes together well, I desired a bit more from the game-play!

krysh 2020-10-12 14:57

This was so much fun to play! Definitely the most interesting game I've played from the jam so far. Soundtrack was perfect for the background while you try and protect your fish. This was really good!

gamescodedogs 2020-10-12 18:44

I really really love how relax and cozy the game is. Love the beautiful colors combination you use there. Best of luck!

ashashza 2020-10-13 09:18

@whynotyt @jrevel @theinkskeleton thanks for the kind words!

@doot Really appreciate that feedback, thanks. HTML version is also a good idea, I've uploaded a build :)

@antihedra Great point on the hut placement. It's something I noticed while watching others play and would definitely fix if I work on this further.

@voidsay Happy to add builds. I've just added a web build https://ashashza.itch.io/zgulls Let me know if that works for you!

@darkmax14 Great point on building placement feedback, I face the same irritation myself. I wanted there to be consequence if you lost a building but I don't think having the spacing issue was a good choice :stuck_out_tongue:

@bentekiller Aw, sorry you ran into that. Thanks for giving it another try! You echo'd my feeling with this jam a lot. I enjoy the look and mood but wish I'd managed to create more depth in the gameplay.

@krysh Thanks! So glad you liked the soundtrack, after playing your jam you've clearly got good taste in tunes!

@gamescodedogs Appreciated! It's so nice to hear that the chill mood I was going for came through.

nsadie 2020-10-13 10:24

Lovely game! I really liked the mood of this one and the gameplay, while simple, was still lots of fun.

The UI could have received some extra love and it was not always clear where I could place new structures, but otherwise very nice!

voidsay 2020-10-13 17:21

The web build has some really peculiar shader errors. Everything has a thin red outlines for some reason. The error tells me that my graphics card is not supported. What kind of setup do you use on your end? Any special render pipelines or shaders?

Anyway the bug wasn't too bad for me, so let's get back to the actual game!

Fences seam extremely OP. Just build a couple fishing huts and create the grate palisade! They are stronger and smaller then the other towers, plus they are very cheap.

I wish there where hotkeys. Buttons to quickly select a building and pressing shift to queue up multiple of the same type.

It was a relaxing experience more or less, good job!

andre-sadie 2020-10-13 19:39

That was nice. I enjoyed the minimilist visuals and I think the colours worked nicely. It was relaxing to play but I also wanted to optimize my space as well as possible which made me restart a couple of times (this is a good thing).

Minor issues: the fences were a bit OP maybe and I'm not sure the boulders were always firing. A quality of life improvement to keep the current building type selected would be nice. Some indicator of where an object can be placed would be cool too.

vesk 2020-10-17 14:27

Great game! The minimalist visuals reminded me of Islanders and they were quite nice. The gameplay was simple but fun. I don't think it fits the theme all that well, and the game stuttered a few times, even though I've got a good external graphics card. Other than that, a great submission!

walaber 2020-10-18 03:55

we played this game on stream with my kids. here is my son's review: I really liked the challenge to get to 100 fish. it took me 40 minutes to get 100 fish. i probably had a million slings and half a million boulders. i enjoyed alot!

ashashza 2020-10-18 09:25

@nsadie thanks! Totally agree with you on the UI. Watching others play and stuggle to place towers is so painful

@voidsay Ah, sounds like web kinda worked. I'm not doing anything special, using standard render pipe. I suspect that the postprocessing shader I added for subtle fog is causing the red lines, good to know! Good feedback on the fence OP thing. I wish I'd had more time to balance out the towers more and make choices between them more interesting. Thanks for playing.

@andre-sadie That's all great input, thanks. Appreciate the compliments on colour & minimal visuals too.

@vesk Wow, nice catch on Islanders! I played that a few weeks ago so there's definitely some inspiration from there (mostly around free-form building placement). Thanks for the comment.

@walaber Oh man, that stream was delightful to watch! Your kids are excellent playtesters  Watching the confusing controls in the beginning was really painful, I wish I'd done a better job explaining the camera controls (and not making the building buttons look like hotkeys!). Your son groked the concept so quickly and did such a good job of getting all the way to the finish. You daughter also had great feedback on the thumbnail not doing a good job of presenting the game well. Realised I saw the physics game you're working on, on reddit recently. Listed! So much learning in this for me, thanks guys!

vodzik 2020-10-18 10:54

Nice relaxing game. Calm music is greatly contributing to mood. With random building rotation you nicely avoided visual reprtition  I think tkat some builting construction and destruction sound can be added here to add more feedback to player.

Only thing that bothers me is that I needed to click RMB to deselect building before i could chose other, but is a minor issue.

I also experienced a little bit, and I escaped the loop. Outside the circle it is much easier to defend, because than birds are attacking from only one side, but i guess it's cheating :stuck_out_tongue:

louis-denizet 2020-10-20 19:55

Loved it, it was super chill and really refreshing, I wanted more! xD

thegreenworm 2020-10-20 20:07

I like the aesthetic, very clean. The UI is a bit unpolished though, and the game might need a few more fish at the start just to build a bit more and not get wrecked in the very first wave.

flying-dog-fish 2020-10-20 21:07

Nice game with great mood and fun gameplay. I run out of space in the loop and won by placing stuff outside of it.

jemsmith 2020-10-21 08:58

This is really great, I enjoyed managing a tight defense in the limited space given, and I really love the theme and tranquil atmosphere (in spite of being swarmed by a horde of hellish gulls!). I would've liked to be able to destroy buildings to rearrange my defenses, but I guess the alternative is starting again with a better strategy. Great work!
