Nice train loop.. i wasn't able to put a gatling gun on.. which was a bit disappointing! Maybe a little bit more of a quick tutorial popup?
+Clever use of the theme
+chill pace
+clean graphics
+game works nicely
- had to restart a few times since I bought the wrong stuff and ended up making no money. Balancing in favour of the player might make it more accessible.
Great work!
I really like the look and feel of this game, I noticed some problems with the Shop UI: Some buttons do not work even though I have enough money, some names are missing and the prices seem to be incorrect (I bought a large passenger wagon and was deducted $1500 even though the price is 1000 according to the UI). The UI could really use some feedback for when you cannot afford it or the action is invalid.
I also really miss some sound design in this game, as the game feels quite empty at the moment. Nonetheless a very nice entry for this Ludumdare!
The white text against white background threw me off at the beginning, because I couldn't find where the game tells your current money. Some sort of box for those UI elements might help.
This game was great! Spent way more time on it than any other game so far. I really enjoyed the concept, and the upgrade mechanic. Loving the graphics too. Low poly and simple, but understandable and clean!
Early on the game was very hard, and I restarted multiple times to find the right "build order". This is a good thing, not a bad thing, but I think the game becomes easy very fast!
With some polish this game could be something I'd buy, for sure! My two cents:
- The shooters should target any carriages in their range, and not only the last one. This is the main reason the game gets easier fast. You drive past the shooters with your turret guns and take them down before they even get to fire a shot, because they are not in range of the last carriage.
- I think there is some pricing info mismatch. The price of the gold carriage seems to be a lot less than what it says!
Great work on this one!
thanks for the feedback! there are of course TONS of bugs but thats just the nature of game jams, glad there is anything positive to say about it at all tbh
The game I've played the longest, I like these. There are several bugs in the game, such as incorrect price tags or inability to buy. Regarding the gameplay, when opponents can shoot only at the last carriage, a situation arises about which, if the opponents appeared in front of the train, they have no chance if from behind, then there is no chance to save the last carriages. Overall, the game is good.
Concept is really cool and I love the graphics and how you used the theme but the game is frustrating: it is really slow to gain money and so to build your train, gattling tower does not kill enemies before you are out of their range while being really expensive. I would make everything cheaper and buff the turrets a bit (or nerf enemies). You should also opt out of Audio as your game does'nt have any (a background music + some sound effects would add a lot tho). Anyway, you have a pretty good game that only need some balance (easier said than done I admit) to be really entertaining
Pretty cool take on the tower defense genre and the graphics are simple but well made! There's a couple of gameplay elements that sticks out: there's no real penalty for a long train. In fact, it's probably an advantage, since the enemies only shoots at the last wagon, giving you time to kill them when the train is slow. Maybe a max-weight mechanic with engine upgrades raising that would introduce som balance in choices. The double passenger wagon seems pretty useless at 1500$(even though it says 1000$) since it seems to only have double the value of the 400$ wagon. The gold wagon sticks out by having static wheels. I really liked the game, even if it's "solved" fairly quickly. Nice!
i like that max weight idea, i think we will add something like this if we continue work on the game later
Nice game, Would have LOVED music though
we have continued work on it and now have music and sound effects, as well as lots more. but we just didnt get that done in the 3 days.
Really like the idea and graphics, but as with other people I couldn't buy any weapons :(
Great idea!
Same as others, I could seem to buy any weapons, even with empty carriages. Too bad you couldn't put some music too.
The mountain is absolutely lovely, and the train fits there nicely.
Thanks for the game!
you have to scroll to the empty carriage and then you can buy weapons on it @lukebandy @doot
Stuck in a loop? **I am the loop!**

I had a lot of fun with this game. The art style fits really well. As others pointed out, the game got a lot easier once I noticed I only had to protect my last carriages. Though once the train got longer than the distance between the stops it got a little bit trickier again, because I had to fight the respawned enemies and didn't have the protection from my first turrets.
I really like the different mechanics and roles each carriage has, though I there'd be a tutorial for the mechanics. It took my a while to notice, that the max amount of money I could make per trip increased with each gold carriage. Before that I mainly used them as a tank at the end for protection. Also once you buy some upgrades or new carriages the price for the repair all option drops to 0. Not a big deal, but I thought I'd let know you as you're working on an updated version.
This is one of my favorite realizations of the theme I've seen this LD and I'm glad you now have music and sound effects. Can't wait to play the updated version
I had the game on my second screen while doing other things and played it like a cookie clicker game. Here's the result:  loopyTrain2.PNG
@hybitous thanks for the great review. we have fixed the bugs you mentioned already and added music/ sound effects. we are working on making it for mobile and plan to release it at some point. we'll be sure to @ you when it comes out :)
This is a really fun reverse tower defense game. I would love to play more!
