Really enjoyed playing this game. I thought the text/beats part looked good, and the music you were 'rapping' to worked well. I liked the way there was a narratove of the hip hop dream too and found the difficulty ramped appropriately. Not sure having about the freestyle ending over a 'Well done' or similar message. Well done on making such a cool game.

I think that the graphics of the audience/stage really let you down as I'm sure you know, I think some simple 2D graphics like PaRappa The Rapper in the 3D world, basic low poly or just a simple 2D sprite look would have made this good game great!

I love the concept here! And rhythm games are hard! My hat's off to you for doing one in a compo. It may have been a html5 thing, but I had some cases where it would get out of sync, or the beat indicator would speed up or slow down. Simple graphics are fine, but for a rhythm game it's really important to have that part be iron clad. The addition of a rhyming mechanic on top of keeping track of the beat was very clever, by the way. I'd love to see more games try that.

I really loved the concept, very cool! I think obviously graphics could use some work, and controls a little bit less confusing. I sometimes read words meant for the next slot as the current one. With those things and a bit more of a faster pace I think it could be a really awesome game. Nice effort!

That was a pretty unique concept. It's a little difficult to use the blue ball to time your key presses I think. One thing that I really appreciated about this game is that you not only have to think about the current word you have to choose, but how that word will fit and rhyme with a future word choice. You needed to look at the whole stack of decisions up ahead, not just the one at hand. That was honestly a bit eye opening, and it made me appreciate freestyle rap a lot more. So thanks for that!

REALLY ENJOYED!!! Play and read the sentence, I feel really good even I don't know the freestyle. Maybe author can make a demo vdeio to show how to sing the words. <- VERY INTERESTED

There are some problems like control without obvious feedbacks, but REALLY FUN!!! GREAT CONCEPT!!!

Pretty cool concept. The rhyming aspect is definitely interesting, although sadly it's not as significant after the first time you lose a level.

I felt like the huge amounts of time that came between some of the beats was kind of difficult to deal with. It's not like a traditional rhythm game where you can miss quite a few things as long as you get into the general flow--because there isn't a lot of flow that happens between some of the beats. This might not be a problem--as it seems like it may be appropriate for the genre at hand. But it still might be good to think of ways to make sure the player can always feel the "pulse," perhaps simply by having them sing more of the words..? Like, maybe you could have a single button that you had to hit when the blue ball hit a word already on screen, and then you also had to hit the other buttons to choose the rhymes that finish each verse.

One other thing: when the blue ball was moving really slowly, it was really easy to completely mess up. Like, I would often hit the button when I thought the blue ball was about to change direction, but it was actually still moving down for a significant amount of time. I think maybe just a visual indicator of where the blue ball will touch down would help with that.

All in all, very unique rhythm game, and the gameplay that's there is pretty good.

Really really cool concept and music going on here. I really wish that the music that I was hearing corresponded moreso with the words that I am seeing on screen. I always was trying to press the right button to the beat, but to win I had to press the button with where the little bouncing ball was going.

Great concept that could have used some more fine tuning and play testing. Great job!

This is a nice rhythm game with a cool concept. Although I don't think it would be feasible for a long term project it really stands out from the others. The audio synced pretty well with the rest of the game but sometimes the bouncing blue ball didn't feel right.

Great take on the theme! I never would have thought of a game like this. I love the POV from the stage looking into the crowd. Great job.

This was cool, don't think I've seen this done before. I remember enjoying Parappa back in the day but adding actual word choice into the mix is neat and different from just timing things right. There is definitely room to polish and tighten up the matching of words and sounds but I appreciate what you did with this entry. Pretty nice beats too!

This is really cool -- very innovative, and an interesting take on the theme. I agree with @gafled and @camden-obertop sometimes I didn't feel like the flubs were necessarily my fault, but I completely appreciate how difficult (impossible?) it would have been to make this work perfectly for everybody!

I liked the "repeating the struggle" system; if I'd been able to keep clicking through to the next songs, I probably wouldn't have ever improved! Great entry.

This is a really unique idea, and it was pretty fun. My only gripe is that sometimes it seemed like two or more of the lyric choices would have fit, but only one was correct and you just had to learn by trial and error. But maybe that's just me because I'm too white, lol. Pretty impressive though, lots of fun!

100th-coin 2020-04-25 20:03

Oh wow this game really pick up the pace in the third stage! I love the beats going on, great work! My only complaint is that the audience is just a bunch of default capsules.

darthone 2020-05-04 06:03

Thought that this was a unique take on the theme and enjoyed it. I think it would have been interesting to have to crowd at least bounce up and down when your doing well.

I loved this game, very unique and very fun. A really good idea. Overall a good game.

rjhelms 2020-05-06 01:49

I really like the minimal aesthetic - sure, it's all default capsules, but the way they're positioned and bounce around, you know what they are!

This is a really cool twist on the rhythm game genre, and on the theme. In a few places the rhythm seemed a bit hard to follow. Maybe the timing was just a bit unforgiving? But I had a lot of fun with this either way.

lcstark 2020-05-06 08:59

An interesting take on a rhythm game! I loved the bouncing audience, seeing them jump made you want to hit the right word at the right time.

One issue I had is that sometimes the music and the bouncing ball didn't really match. A lot of times I had to tune out the music and focus only on the ball to be able to press the button at the right time.

Other than that, I loved it. The idea is great and the execution is solid. Well done!

This is a cool entry! Interesting game play, though I found it difficult to read the lyrics, find the correct word and then press the key in the required time. Perhaps with a bit practice it would be easier. Good job!
