Good game, mining is a bit of an odd choice

Great game! I love the feel of this game, I was really engaged while I played it. The artwork and music really added extra depth to the game as well! I also noticed a potential bug. On the third level, I automatically won right at the start. Anyways, awesome game!

the whole thing worked well together

remus-rain 2020-04-21 08:14

The overall game was quite nice. I would have like the action to spice more quickly though. Also the obstacles in the way dont really need to be destroyed quickly. It would have been nicer if the convoy was being chased and you had to destroy them quickly while also fending off attackers. It would have made for a nicer tradeoff. But overall very good!

mantaraytv-games 2020-04-21 21:59

I like it a lot! The mechanics work well together, it's stressful intese and feels great!

toasted-oregano 2020-04-21 23:18

I love the gameplay! It feels balanced and challenging as you decide between mining or fending off enemies. You also did a good job of highlighting what's going on with the text and the overall atmosphere! This game is fun from beginning to end!

celvin 2020-04-22 08:36

Feel like there is a performance problem playing after a few minutes. Nice control and chanllening. Stuck on the level 2.

kyrio 2020-04-22 17:24

That was pretty good! Good job on making the camera and movement feel fluid, I had trouble achieving that with our own Godot game. The bullets that bounce back and can interrupt others are a nice touch. I also thought the tutorial was well-made, and the music is quite good. Here's some stuff that I think can be improved: - You should account for other keyboard layouts (like ZQSD), perhaps by using scancodes - Mining doesn't give the right feel, there should be either a sound effect or a breaking animation, though I assume you didn't find the time - There are a few typos left in the beginning - It might be nice to have health packs or a health bonus for killing a series of enemies, so mistakes at the start don't impact you so much.

So, I found this game pretty frustraghting. It took me a while to figure out how to remove the rocks, that text at the bottom is both easy to miss and dose not stay on screen long enough for me to read in one go. Also your bullets bounce off of things and can ricochet into the truck. So that was a nasty surprize. It made me very hesitant to shoot at the bad guys, in case I missed and the bullets flew back int the truck, but the enemies could just fire with wild abandon. Once the enemies appeared the truck dies very quickly. I felt like I couldn't leave it to clear rocks up ahead and it wasn't very fun for me.

Maybe if you had some kind of mini-map with a radar that indicated when the van was under attack?

itsdanidre 2020-04-25 03:14

That was some really cool graphics! It was really hard staying alive because in an attempt to stop them from hitting the truck, I'd run into their bullets :joy:

willian-oliva 2020-04-25 17:57

@kyrio Thank you for the feedback! Looking at what you said, we released the V1.4, witch now have health drops, better mining and fixed typos!

kyrio 2020-04-25 18:02

@willian-oliva Great! Glad you could iterate so quickly.

david-bohan 2020-04-25 18:08

I really like this one! You did some really great work with the audio/graphics going well together. The top down mechanics and the gun swinging around the characters were very nice touches. I appreciate how hard it is to get those feeling right - the game I made for this Jam has similar mechanics  . Overall excellent work, the game was a joy play!

duke 2020-04-25 18:33

Awesome! Great job all in all. This feels like a thought out and well executed jam entry. The art style is simple but coherent. The music was great as well! And you even have sound effects for all important things! The core game play is rather simple as well but executed to an extent, that it's fun and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Three levels were enough for the kind of mechanics you introduces, so good call on limiting the game play time. People often stretch their game play unnecessarily with a lot of useless padding. I did encounter some visual glitches along the tile seams, so that might be something to look into.

Very good entry all in all. A complete package. That's something i can appreciate :)

blue-pin-studio 2020-04-25 21:19

I liked the game a lot. I almost made it to the end but its kind of hard keeping the truck alive when theres no way to repair it or shield it from damage. The art, sounds and gameplay are all solid, not glaring problems. There was a little of graphics artifacts floating around my screen but that might just be on my end, im not sure. Great game!

unimaginable-code-studios 2020-04-26 00:47

Amazing work, I love the theme/main concept! It is such a fun game and I liked the game a lot! This is a simple but fun to play solid game. Good luck!

cheesepencil 2020-04-27 02:55

Great sprites, run well. I found it very challenging and I think I made it almost to the end of stage 3 (or stage 4 I lost count because the gameplay was so frantic). A crosshair for my mouse would have helped a little, but all in all it's a good entry. Well done.

gelgavish 2020-04-27 07:56

Hi, just saved the alien from the evil army, I'm such a good person ;)

I really, really had fun playing this game, the combination of protecting the truck and fighting the enemies really reminds me of my first LD game, but you guys did it much better :)

The graphics and sounds are awesome!

Amazing job! :D

emperor-eagle 2020-04-27 07:59

Really good game! Great graphics and audio, and the gameplay was fun and polished. There a good amount of content with the 3 levels, and each level felt like you were actually out there, protecting a truck in a cold desert, so your game's mood is great! The art is nice and consistent across the characters, terrain, and UI and the audio goes really well with it (as well as being great by itself). It was a good experience to play! My constructive feedback would be: some more feedback when shooting (ie recoil), the camera being able to see a bit more (however the view is great as it is, it gives the game a greater sense of being alive, as you can't see all the enemies, and as you are being ambushed), and make sure the bullets spawn from the muzzle of the gun. Overall, really great job and I'm glad you added a .zip file as I was excited to play it (probably would have got a new .rar opener eventually)! Great game!

long-as-python 2020-04-27 08:28

I like pixel games! Really good and fun game!

taldius 2020-04-27 08:39

Good game, the gameplay is simple but it's well done and fun to play. Good job.

dextreon 2020-04-27 13:40

I liked it a lot! The visuals were great, as well the gameplay! It felt really polished, some more feedback when shooting would be great though! But overall it is an awesome work! Congrats for the entry :ok_hand:

walkalope 2020-04-27 15:30

Hi there! Thank you for updating the compression method so I could play. I really dig the art-style of this game; animating the sprites by "bouncing" them in space rather drawing frames had a hilarious effect. The two main abilities (shooting and mining) were responsive and satisfying to execute.

I was really BAD at this game - but I don't think the difficulty needs to be adjusted at all. I think games like these - where the challenge is high, but there is little to no delay for allowing the player to re-try the stage over and over and over again - I think these games get their appeal from the challenge. It really makes it that much more satisfying once the player has memorized every little event in the stage and finally beats it like a total pro.

I think I would spend some time thinking about the ricochet and friendly-fire - whether or not you really want that to be a mechanic of the game. It seemed like the fact that the bullets could ricochet only ever resulted in a negative outcome for me - I could not successfully use the ricochet to hit anyone but myself - that got a bit frustrating and made it feel like I had an unfair disadvantage to my enemies.

Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing!

firellon 2020-04-27 18:30

Hey, good take on the theme!

I think you'd want to progress the alien matter further and perhaps make the alien do something powerful and mysterious to help and/or thwart you :)

Enemies are really fast at shooting and you can die in no time, so I found it helpful to just shoot everywhere but the direction of your truck (since friendly fire is on) just in case if there would be someone. Not sure if it was intended.

Still, nice

willian-oliva 2020-05-03 17:22

@walkalope , Thank you for the feedback! We're reconsider the ricochet, and now it's removed from the final version. Glad you like you like tho!

nachodlv 2020-05-03 23:29

Had a lot of fun playing this one. I liked that you need to do multiple things at the same time. The art and the sound were nice too. Godd job!
