This takes me back to the old PS1 Lego Racing game. I've always enjoyed customization options in games, and this adds quite a bit to the experience. The "worker" controls are a bit wonky, though. Overall, really cool concept! Great Job :)

I think there's a lot of potential in the idea! Having to grab parts before they're gone introduces a really cool dynamic where you want to find the best parts, but also want to start racing before anyone else does. I can tell you put a lot of work into the actual car building - all the parts mix together to form interesting shapes.

Unfortunately, the game controls a little harshly. In the worker phase, I expected to use normal third-person controls, but instead it ended up being tank controls. Then, in the car phase, I found it extremely difficult not to fall off the track, and when I did end up falling off, I couldn't figure out how to get back on the track.

Despite these difficulties and some lack of polish, I think you've got a cool idea here!

The idea is really good, but sadly the controls is bad.

hiroboto 2019-10-22 01:20

really funny idea! is it possible that the player can obtain some parts on the racing route (some hiden routes) so that the game can be more interesting in the process? I really enjoy collecting items hhh

I like the idea and the risk/reward system of trying to find good parts, but the execution isn't there. I got very confused at first since all parts had the engine icon on them, so I couldn't tell which were which. Then, I couldn't find any trunk parts in the dump so I couldn't get started. When I restarted the game again and managed to build a car, I just fell off the track and got stuck. I also don't like the tank controls. Again, the idea is cool and I liked how snappy the car felt. I think with more time this could be pretty fun.

I love the concept, I feel like it has lots of potential if you can combine the building of the car and the race itself in some way. Maybe after a while you start losing pieces or the terrain changes so you have to create a different vehicle? Stuff like that may be really interesting

I think the game is hinders by the lack of a clear goal at the beginning, the controls and, more importantly, the apparent inability of getting back on track after falling from the sides. I tried for a while to no avail hahaha

Good job anyway!

The controls are the real killer in this game, moving side to side is really fast, and makes it really difficult to properly aim your character and drive. I found it to be quite disorienting. I also fell off the map right at the beginning of the race and couldn't get back on the track as it was elevated above the ground, I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but I actually got stuck underneath the road because of this. I think the concept is really cool, and is a really neat interpretation of the theme, but the execution just isn't quite right. Perhaps with more time it would be a really cool game! Hopefully you continue to work on it.

very interesting game!

I never lie in my comments, thats my principle. Ok the concept is good, but its implemented terribly, there are a lot of bugs, problems with controls, the player's rotation is too fast it hurts your eyes, no animations, etc. I assume you are a beginner or did not have much time for everything, and its totally understandable, try to go with something you can finish and have a bit of time to polish, time managment and picking right ideas is crucial, you obviously can't go for placement in this game jam, but see it as opportunity to improve your skills, and get experience. Just the fact that you are participating is amazing on its own, never give up, we all have been there and went through this, it still is rewarding. You cant call this a prototype, so in all honesty the people who ask you to continue on the game, imo you shouldnt, first acquire the skills, I think until I made my first good game that people like it took me like 3 years of scrapped projects, and I wasn't limited by time, so dont get upset!

The game is interesting but like others have said the controls could definitely use some polish.

zinkler 2019-10-26 17:20

Funny idea, but a jarring result. All of the parts are marked as engine, so it takes you an awkward amount of time to understand what exactly you need to do, and the race controls/physics are very unresponsive.

Great concept, though a bit weird and frustrating to play in practice. Controls were a bit hard to get used to at first (turning feels inconsistent & maybe too fast, would probably be better to use WSAD+mouse or similar), and I wish I had more time to build my car, felt like I had to make quick decisions rather than be creative. Also was confusing to find parts when they all just had the engine icon, which was a bit confusing. Then both times I tried to race, I pretty much immediately jumped off the track and got stuck when trying to get back on. Still, this could be really cool with some control & usability tweaks. Keep it up!

manomeu 2019-10-27 01:01

I like this game! but the controls are weird.

budaniel 2019-10-27 03:35

My determination to make a worthy phone booth mobile didn't get me to the end of the track, but it was fun to race. The jittery/glitchy movement and collision in the part finding process could use some fine-tuning.

scsc 2019-10-27 10:30

Just like the previous comments mentioned, the character controls are really clunky and the key latency is terrible, the car easily falls off the road, and the race itself is unfinished. Which is really sad, because the concept contains one of the best ideas when it comes to a race preparation. I would really like to see something similar in other casual racing games - maybe even as a split-screen game competition, where you have to steal the parts faster than your opponent :) I could imagine some interesting dynamics to arise in such a game. By the way, I see that you've really put some effort into making an interesting atmosphere, as you've used so many various objects, boxes, fences, "AI" logic with waypoints, minimap, interesting terrain... so it's far from a neglected game. I hope you won't give up on this... Time Lord game ;)

mrstari 2019-10-27 12:58

interesting entry :) but the same for me the controls are weird :o

aj-jones 2019-10-27 21:03

Was tough to walk around and grab parts, but once I started driving it felt much better, until it spun out and i was unable to control.

f1krazy 2019-10-27 21:18

I really wanted to like this.

Racing games where you get to build your own car are always great fun, and having to race against the AI to build it adds another level of challenge: do you waste time finding the best parts, or just pick up the closest ones and throw them on?

Unfortunately, it's just... not well-executed at all. The controls are really awkward when walking around, and there's not enough of a detection zone around the crates: you can walk right into one and it won't prompt you to "Preese" E to pick it up. It can be hard to tell whether what you're picking up is an engine, "Cabine", or rear, so I kept coming back to my car and finding I'd replaced a part I already had.

The AI finish building their own cars inhumanly fast - I genuinely don't think it's possible to finish your car before they do - and then when I finally set out to try and catch up, I invariably crash at the second corner and get stuck. There doesn't seem to be a pause menu or any option to restart, so at that point I have to close the game entirely and re-open it.

I really wanted to like this game. But I just can't. The concept has so much potential, but it needs a *lot* more development and fine-tuning before it can even begin to live up to it.

zirconcode 2019-10-28 00:49

@yomissmar it took me back to the lego games as well, great nostalgic feeling =)

olima 2019-10-28 20:03

Had some issues with the control but really cool concept and big ambition for a jam game!
