Generally well made, but I had no idea what do at the beginning.

jeritens 2019-10-08 01:11

The concept has potention. A tower defense with real time strategy economy. I like the low poly even though everything appears a little bit too big. It needs more work to be enjoyable. My two guard towers attacked each other and my defense was broken instantly. I did some play tests but I feel like there isn't enough of time to build your production.

kroltan 2019-10-08 01:27

Hi @jeritens and thanks for playing my game! Nice catch on the towers bug, they were actually quite broken (most of the time they wouldn't acquire targets at all), and are the main mechanic of the game. I have patched their targeting. If you have a bit of spare time do try again for a bit.

faiorb 2019-10-08 02:21

Nice idea here. This tower defense with real time economy management has a good potencial. About the game, it felt like, at first, that the game was kind of unbalanced, but it's fine. I only didn't like the wood and the money not being automatic.

Good entry, man!

jeritens 2019-10-08 03:26

@kroltan Great stuff. The little update shows the proof of concept. The resource managing can be very interesting. It is scalable too if you want to work on it in the future. With upgraed building. Different enemy types etc. I was stuck at wave 4 and it repeated the whole time. Did I reach the end?

ulisses 2019-10-08 12:19

Parabéns @kroltan ! Joguei e fiquei RICOOOO..

Misclicked one guard tower => did not have enough money for complete chain to make money. It would be better if money would be spend only on advanced buildings and/or upgrades.

move127 2019-10-09 15:22

A well-made tower defense-esque game. The graphics are pleasant and the feedback loop is satisfying. My biggest suggestion would be giving some indication to the player what their priorities should be in the beginning.

adam-konig 2019-10-10 01:42

This is really well done and probably the closest thing to a fully fledged game I've played so far. The progression is really clear and easy to understand, it's like a classic idle game like cookie clicker. I'm only confused why sometimes you have to click the collect button and other times it collects it for you?

kroltan 2019-10-10 01:54

Hi @adam-konig, thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it :)

Some buildings have to be collected manually, actually a bit of a vestigial feature from when I still though upgrades could be implemented on time. The idea was that the woodcutter and market could be upgraded at great investment to their automatic versions.

It did not get implemented, but I left the clicking in to see what people thought about it.

landosystems 2019-10-10 03:12

Solid tower defense city builder, impressive work for a weekend, and would probably be worthwhile to continue building on. Great work!

shunaky 2019-10-11 19:02

Loved the art work, but with me I got stuck in the first wave, I defeated the enemy and then...... nothing..

I have some ideas on how to improove the game a bit. *Maybe you should make the market and the woodcutter passive just like the other buildings, or create a good visual feedback on where it is and when to collect. *Adding multiple uses to every item would be nice as you need to grow and knowing what you need to do what. *A way to repair your buildings (I don't know if I couldn't find how to repair or if it doesn't have one in the game, either way that shoulddd be clear to the player)

But, the game is pretty solid

hijomo 2019-10-11 20:15

Cool idea. the production chain is decently long. Great work.

Once the woodcutter was damaged I could no longer collect wood.

kroltan 2019-10-12 02:02

Thank you @landosystems, @shunaky and @hijomo!

---

@shunaky that... Sounds like a very serious bug. There is supposed to be at least 4 waves of enemies, then a wave at every new building after that. I'll take a look at that.

I agree with the woodcut/market automatization, it was meant to be an upgrade, which would make sense once you had too much stuff on screen to care about collecting resources.

The more diverse production chain I do agree a lot, if I continue working on this game after LD that will definitely be something to implement.

And yeah, currently there is no repair mechanic.

---

@hijomo having played it again, it seems I forgot to make health bars not block the mouse, which prevents you from clicking the button. Woops.

shunaky 2019-10-12 02:53

I'm very happy to read that you are still working on it, if you want me to test it in a later version, call me, I would love to give you some feedback on how it's going ^^

importantcreations 2019-10-12 15:09

I like the combination of tower defense & economy. The concept has potential :=) Unfortunately got my game stuck at wave 4 - it appeared again and again and again...

ryuu 2019-10-12 15:32

I loved the game! Congratulations! There's only one wave that comes to you? In my game only happened one time and I can't proceed the game because I had no money =/

Regardless, I think this game is great, it would be awesome to see it become a Post LD game!

kroltan 2019-10-12 15:37

@importantcreations Not a bug! It's just that I only implemented waves up to the 4th, and kept it on loop after that to keep the pressure.

Thanks for playing, glad you liked it!

kroltan 2019-10-12 17:03

@ryuu Oh noes! I pushed an update that supposedly fixes this bug literally one minute after you posted this.

But if you do your build order a bit more strategically, you do not need the tower money to proceed.

shess 2019-10-12 17:44

I always loved production chains, so this game hit just the right spot. I also love methodically placing buildings in the most optimized manner, so I hated the enemies with passion, especially if they dared to destroy my carefully organized village.

So far I managed to outlast 3 waves, but I won't give up here!

madbarron 2019-10-12 17:49

Cute exponential game! I was dying for lack of zoom out, but I enjoyed it, and I'm guessing got to the end because the waves stopped coming. The waves didn't seem to get harder? Best part is probably the animation of the resource flying to the top of the screen and the number jiggling :)

itsdanidre 2019-10-18 06:01

Ok so I...love this game! It kept me playing for quite a while, despite how broken it was

By broken: towers attack enemies when you click it to place it. So I have it hovering, then when I clear the wave, I right click and never actually buy the tower :stuck_out_tongue:

At the start, I did run out of money or wood without realizing and waves never came so I pretty much started over. Soon enough I got the main idea down though! :sunglasses:

Although...after 3 waves, the enemies ceased to come in waves.

I wish there was a way to feel satisfied with my accomplishments, or objectives to meet before beating each Farm Land

Capture21.JPG

The water animation when collecting is a neat addition in terms of graphics, but with dozens of wells, it becomes slow to scroll around with that many. Though the argument is if it's better than idly watching the water increase. So an option to turn it off/on would be suggested? I mean, this Ludum Dare thing is done and gone right, doubt you'd decide to now implement an entire system for showing or hiding certain displays.

But I enjoyed the game, and am gonna go back to it so see how far I can go.

lereveur 2019-10-26 19:46

Strategy management games are not easy to balance, even less while the very short time of a LD. And although it's not as obvious on this one, well, it's not very balanced, making it easy (I made it to 1234 of money ^^). On the other hand, I never been annoyed by the ennemies, it was very fast to build enough towers to be safe (until the enemies cease to show up, somewhere around 40th wave or so). In a whole, this game is very easy (except if you don't build one of each building at start, and in the good order), but this is good, better have an easy game than a hard one on a LD, and you obviously spent time on polished animations and graphics, and this is working, so good job anywhays. :)
