Interesting entry! I didn't realize at first that the behavior of the lines was determined by certain characteristics (like whether it's curvy or straight or forms a loop), but it was fun to mess around with and explore.

Audio was nice, but got a little bit laggy if I made too many little dots...

Overall, nice experience. You don't see a whole lot of simulator/sensory art games for LD.

Nice idea that fits the theme ! My favorite type of those little creatures are the little dots. I love how they walk around in groups when you make a bunch of them at once.

I think I might not have seen everything in this in a single playthrough though.

graphics are cool sound is cool as long as you don't go overboard with this brush (which I obviously did, who wouldn't ? :laughing: )

I would have love to see more interactions between the different "types" of creatures, but I guess this was enough work for the last three days eh ?

Good job team :thumbsup:

avzgui 2019-10-08 20:12

@jeremy-ryan @hmaya Thanks a lot for these firsts feedbacks.

Glad you’ve liked the experience :slight_smile:

Concerning dots, it’s because each dots check all the other dots to update its position (so if they are many …)

We’ll see how to improve it :thumbsup:

thor1 2019-10-08 21:26

Fantastic! I loved it!

kurrik 2019-10-09 19:26

Fun and relaxing. The discovery process was enjoyable. Would be a fun tablet game for my toddler :) Great job!

avzgui 2019-10-09 19:33

@thor1 glad you’ve liked :slight_smile:

@kurrik thanks ! totally agree for the android/tablet game idea (for kids or … stressed adults)

carloso 2019-10-10 17:44

Fun little game. The dots seem to be more of a percussion and long lines more of a melody thing. Great entry!

avzgui 2019-10-11 09:35

@carloso thanks ! Yes, dots are percussions, and each other shape corresponds to a different instrument.

sevidax 2019-10-12 10:31

digitaldude555 2019-10-12 15:08

That was cool sandbox game, good use of the theme. Can be a bit loud if you draw a lot. Not much else to say.

yhi 2019-10-12 15:08

Great game with an original approach of the theme.

avzgui 2019-10-12 15:42

@sevidax 谢谢!

@digitaldude555 thanks for the feedback :slight_smile: we thinking about introduce a "return to calm" feature that fit well with the actual proposal.

@yhi thanks !

almax 2019-10-12 19:47

That was all kinds of weird in a good way! Fantastic use of the theme, but it would have been nice if the sound effects coalesced into something less random - then the audio would come alive too :)

avzgui 2019-10-12 20:02

@almax thanks for the feedback ! glad you liked the experience :smile:

At the beginning we wanted to do music as synchronized layers but, after some reflexions, it appears interesting to let the player creates her/his own music. (and, also, it was easier to do for us :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

daria-toni 2019-10-13 13:32

I wouldn't call it a game... it's an audio/visual toy :) Excellent interpretation of the theme! I quickly discovered the whole type of lines and objects (I think so), I wish there were more different stuff! For my taste, this is an interesting project.

avzgui 2019-10-13 19:43

@daria-toni thanks for the feedback ! :smiley: We are thinking about introduce new interactions between objects :slight_smile:

romes 2019-10-16 20:06

This is pretty good! It is nice to explore and try and understand the patterns... At one point i tried placing a lot of dots and the game basically crashed, but i guess that's on me, i guess i was testing that limit ahaha. Overall very nice, congratulations on your submission!

avzgui 2019-10-17 18:33

@romes thanks for the feedback ! Haha, yeah be careful with those dots :laughing:

We are currently working on an update less laggy with a lot of dots (among others things) :slight_smile:

sonnglung 2019-10-19 13:56

it's a good idea, but I didn't know how it works properly.

ninjacatz 2019-10-19 18:05

Points, curves, and closed curves (such as a circle). These are all combinations that I found :smile: Maybe there is more?

avzgui 2019-10-19 18:50

@sonnglung Thanks :slight_smile: do you mean the objective of the game or something else ?

@ninjacatz Yeah, there is few more shapes, we let you to discover them :slight_smile:

virimine 2019-10-19 20:06

Never expected to see a game like this in a gamejam... Maybe because it feels like the beginning of an "art game" other than a classic "videogame". Very original! I am truly impressed! I liked the audiovisual interactions (creating sounds/music using shapes) and I would love to see more out of it, maybe concerning shape behavior, interactions between them, even graphics etc! Btw my cat was mesmerized by the moving lines :smiley_cat: :')

adhesion 2019-10-19 20:16

Cool! I love little audio experiences like this. Really liked the use of stereo too. Experimenting with the different drawing types was cool, although I might have liked some more control e.g. over which percussion you get when you draw a dot. (Seemed to be random?) Though not being in control of things like is valid as its own experience. Nice work!

avzgui 2019-10-20 09:08

@virimine Thanks for the feedback ! Glad your cat also liked the experience :laughing:

@adhesion Glad you liked the experience :smiley:

yeah, every sounds are taken randomly on the Em pentatonic and dots are simply random. We are currently polishing a new version with a little more control on sounds and better graphics too :slight_smile:

cafelovai 2019-10-21 02:45

This is cool. It felt like abstract art but in game form. The sounds really complement the visuals leading to a very relaxing experience. Good call deciding not to give the player any information. The sense of discovery I got out of this was great.

carlos-lennon 2019-10-21 19:00

Nice vibes!

avzgui 2019-10-21 19:07

@cafelovai thanks for feedbacks, glad you liked the experience :smiley:

@carlos-lennon thanks :slight_smile:

nihushu 2019-10-21 20:20

I would add like an limiter because if you spam with a ton of drawings then it goes to like 1fps

heta 2019-10-21 21:02

Very nice game!

avzgui 2019-10-21 21:22

@nihushu Yeah its a problem ^^’ the new version should be less laggy, but we are thinking about a way to limit or erase shape that fit with our proposal (the chaotic final being a part of the experience :laughing:)

@heta Thanks ! :smiley:

untitled-studios 2019-10-21 22:31

cool! very relaxing to play around with.

gamefive 2019-10-22 02:43

Is this a game? What should gamers do? I saw this as a sandbox type tool. It was fun to draw a line.

avzgui 2019-10-22 06:55

@untitled-studios Thanks ! :slight_smile:

@gamefive good question, after all, what is a game ? :thinking: Glad you had fun :slight_smile:

gamefive 2019-10-22 07:33

@avzgui The definition of a game is difficult. Generally, games are said to have goals. But there is something interesting even if there is no goal. It's not a game. It's either a toy or a play. This content is interesting. So I like it.

nobongo 2019-10-22 16:43

Definitely the most unexpected entry to the entire jam! I want to commend your originality and execution. This game reminds me a lot of Tetris Effect, which is one of my favorite games of all time. This is definitely a great game to relax to. I would think the game would benefit from being a little messier. Maybe to fit the style of the ink, have more splatters splash onto the page when the dots collide, or when you draw something out. I would also be interested to see if there was a way to make all the notes land on a beat depending on how much is on screen. The more you draw the faster the music gets, and maybe if there's enough on screen a drum beat will kick in so that it begins to feel like a full song. But man would that be complicated to program, just wanted to throw out some ideas. Great job everyone!

avzgui 2019-10-22 17:33

@gamefive In fact, it’s still hard for us to call it "a game" and we didn’t expect all these good feedbacks :slight_smile: So, if you prefer to call it "a toy" it’s ok for us, we are just happy to have create something that people like and have fun with it :smiley:

@nobongo Wow, such a great feedback, thanks ! Now we have made a "polished" version, we are thinking about new behaviors and interactions, so thanks for your ideas ! :smiley:

afendar 2019-10-22 18:54

Really nice and the atmosphere is really relaxing. After a few games of combat and of advance, I have the calm and posed side of this game.

dan-colman 2019-10-22 19:01

Great vibe, creative play feel. Love it!

avzgui 2019-10-23 16:00

@afendar @dan-colman Thanks for the feedback ! Glad you liked the experience :slight_smile:

pragmascript 2019-10-24 10:39

THe idea is quite similar to what I came up with :) Pretty nice

papaver 2019-10-24 11:31

Cool! I enjoyed playing around with it. It fits the theme. :) On my laptop in Firefox, it takes a while for the game to begin after the loading bar is finished, so I was unsure if it would work, but it did! I noticed that the behavior depends on the shape you drew, I wonder how you determine if it is a snake, line, square or triangle or dot. :slight_smile:

Well done!

--- Ooh, I played the polished version, and I like what you did there! I like the visual feedback to the sounds, and the new line style, the longer lines, and the drops behind the snakes. :smile: i did notice that if I draw a closed shape and move the cursor away while releasing the mouse button, that it formed quite often a dot in stead of a circle...

avzgui 2019-10-24 20:25

@pragmascript Thanks :slight_smile:

@papaver Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked the experience :smiley: For the shape detection you can take a look to the source code :wink: And thanks for the glitch, we are on it :slight_smile:

chtimy 2019-10-24 21:29

@papaver Thanks for your comment. To give you some stuff about our hand made shape recognition algorithm based points: - First we split the range of points into edges (one edge is described by all its points with a similar slope) - Then we check whether if the drawn line is closed or not. If it's closed we check the number of edges in order to define the shape. If it's not closed, one edge means it's straight line (Almost! According our threshold), otherwise it's a snake.

djindegames 2019-10-26 20:17

Wow this one is very experimental! Nice too see that some entries are really different, this one was mesmerizing and very original. As someone already mentionned it, the game gets a bit laggy after having drawn a lot of shapes, but anyway this is a very interesting one :)

oddballdave 2019-10-26 21:08

Yea, this is straight up the coolest Ludum Dare entry I've tried. Very impressive. Everything worked great. Wouldn't change a thing. Simple as that really, I have nothing constructive to add. Thank you.

Good stuff :8ball:

avzgui 2019-10-27 09:19

@djindegames @oddballdave Thanks for the feedback ! Glab you liked the experience :slight_smile:

kristinamay 2019-10-29 16:30

Suuuuuuuuuch cool vibes!! Loved experimenting with the different shapes. I'd love to play more of this.

avzgui 2019-10-29 19:12

@kristinamay Thanks ! :smiley:
