I like it. The art is in my opinion the best.

Well done on the game, I wish the melee combat would've been a bit faster paced but it still works!

ash-ketchup 2019-04-30 07:18

Melee felt slightly clunky but everything else was pretty good, especially the concept.

generalbeans 2019-04-30 08:31

The art style was solid. I would work hard on tightening up that sword play! Nice work!

lexyvil 2019-04-30 08:59

Fun game~ I just wish the path that required 80 of them didn't take so long to get. It's still pretty impressive how you got that done not long after adapting to Unreal Engine.

roilbauk 2019-04-30 11:12

Cool game ! I especially liked the story telling :D

rhewid 2019-04-30 16:44

Nice entry. Maybe add some feedback when the player gets hit.

z-doctor 2019-04-30 17:50

Thanks all for the feedback. The gameplay def needs improvement. Shortcuts were taken cause I was tired and time was almost over. Congrats to everyone who beat the game.

congrats on your first ue4 game! well done choosing to focus on narrative when making a game in a short time with a new tool, i'm sure it helped a lot :)

the biggest suggestion to give it, feedback. everywhere! when enemies are hit, when enemies deal damage etc, getting a ding or seeing a flash on screen feels infinitely better than a number somewhere flipping over to the next digit ^-^

neverix 2019-05-01 03:23

I loved the art style and the story, but, as others have said, the gameplay was a bit unpolished and certainly needs improvement.

tweedle 2019-05-01 06:01

thanks for the twitch streaming! good work here for recently learning the engine

dorblin7z7 2019-05-01 06:02

The simple graphics are nice, and the monsters are my favorite! It got a little difficult with so many monsters, I was struggling to get past them, especially since it was hard to know I was losing health.

lagman9000 2019-05-01 09:16

Loved the stream from the other day and cool game! It is nails, managed to complete it but I think that I may have RSI now ;) It needs an element of randomness to the combat I suspect, perhaps with some abilities thrown in and high damage player attacks. It would also be nice to have some more visual and audio feedback. Had fun though, great entry

enigma 2019-05-01 09:23

The idea that your memory is your enemy is cool! Combat part is interesting, but it's a little too hard for me to finish it(LOL There's a room for improvement for audio!

adrupen 2019-05-01 09:34

I enjoyed the graphics and storytelling! The combat could use some more, like feedback for when you go hit and when you hit the enemy. Good job!

dodormeur 2019-05-01 09:34

The scenario and narrative are really nice :) I'm not a fan of this art style, but I guess it's subjective, and the combat system could really use some improvement (next, maybe try making it too easy if you don't have the time to balance it, especially if you make a narrative game ;) ) Other than that, it is a nice game, and making it in a new engine is impressive :)

jofersgames 2019-05-01 10:57

Fun game, fun streams :)

topbraj 2019-05-01 17:13

Given the fact that you just picked up UE4, I'm really impressed with what you managed to put together in such a short time! You really tapped into my need to upgrade things... Sadly I got myself killed by being sloppy. Good adherence to the theme!

craftlord 2019-05-01 21:52

What all the others said ;-) Good attempt working with a new engine....

Well, as a hardcore gamer, i was more than pleased with the challenge to grind 80 memory shards in the end, with a risk of being almost oneshotted to death and having start from the beginning.

After the end of the game i found out that left mouse click is the sword attack button aswell, i used X for attack and WASD to move, so i have finished the game with only left hand :D

Here are some feedback from my perspective:

1) Grinding. If enemies would start dropping more memory shards later, this would account for the fact that they have more HP and thus harder to kill. Harder gameplay = more reward

2) Story. In my opinion, you should never abandon the story and write things like "hey, i'm a dev, i had no time to finish the story, so here is the final level", it ruins the experience. I think you should have stuck to the story about his memory to the end, it would at least feel like a complete experience.

Those are major things that i thought about while playing the game. I really enjoyed playing it because i like to play rpg and it feels good to level up your character or gear.

I hope you will continue to create games after this jam and eventually make a wonderful game that is both complete and polished.

I was feeling so confident then I made it to the boss and I died haha. Cool game especially considering you just learned unreal4. I would of loved to have the knockback effect that the boss had on all the smaller enemies.

The controls felt smooth. I did have to do a circle pattern to attack and avoid enemies all at once it was kinda fun though.

The story parts were interesting too. I didn't think I'd be seeing a ton of story in games but it's a nice touch

z-doctor 2019-05-07 11:57

@dioinecail Maybe I wasn't clear in the end. This game has its own story. What I meant in the end is that if I made a full game it would probly be different from this story. Also glad you enjoyed the hard gameplay. The guards in the boss room (as I like to call them) actually do drop extra shards (though admitably, prob not enough I think it was two), but they do much more damage and have higher health.

@barret You are def right about the combat and knockback. I am actually working on a post Ludum Dare version of the game. Knockback has been implemented as well as a damage animation.
