A question -- is the bottle-smashing segment meant to go on for so long? Just making sure it's not a bug or anything, I've been at it for a while now...

(Enjoying the game so far, for the record. Quite interesting.)

Realy nice experience. The music in background looks like a "this war of mine" one, it works pretty well. Nice job!

theonethatneverwas 2018-12-03 22:59

@dwam Hi dwam! Have you tried smashing the bottles AND type on your keyboard? :)

captaindreamcast 2018-12-03 23:08

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this. I originally clicked on it because it seemed like a game with a surrealist aesthetic which also had something meaningful to say, and I wasn't disappointed. The type writer segments were a great tool to put the more abstract segments into perspective, I thought that was a smart design choice. Amazing selection of music too. All-around great job!

dwam 2018-12-03 23:18

Finished.

* Overall, I quite enjoyed it. I generally enjoy the use of existing/stock assets and reforming them into something new. The use his was very interesting and managed to communicate most of what it set out to do. (I say "most", because I get the feeling some things were left intentionally on the vaguer side, given the more personal nature of the game.) * The typing sections got a bit tedious after a while but I get the feeling that was sort of the point. * The last section in particular I found quite well-done. Last shot especially. That could be because I tend to like that particular type of surrealist imagery.

A good experience.

Thanks for making this. Good game. By the way, I have the same difficulties in bottle-smashing segment as DWaM

I love weird games, and this is a really weird game. Overall this is a good game, but sometime it become too slow.

gamebuilder 2018-12-05 02:10

I also got stuck on the floating bottles page, until I learned that I could type and catch bottles at the same time. Eventually I was able to see it through to the end. I'm glad I did. All in all, this was truly a unique experience. All the details fell into place to create a powerful mood.

I loved the idea!

I like the game!

Congratulations!

oceanosaurus 2018-12-05 14:05

I love to play this kind of games. I'm always looking for experience like this on LD. It gets a lot of fun in the typing sections, I was all the time pretending I was really typing what it was writed. Good job.

co181127 2018-12-05 16:14

good game! no way to express ,you are really game designer!!!

rodrigo-grego 2018-12-05 16:41

Games like yours that make it worthwhile to continue producing and showing to others how games are art.

zemmi 2018-12-05 21:44

Really enjoyed my time here, well executed and gorgeous. Although I also ran into problems at the bottle-smashing. Might be nice if typing before the flowers were out made the avatar squirm, wince, or react in some way just to see that typing causes some reaction in that segment. Was probably my favourite part of the game once I got it, but the pace was pretty much halted while I figured it out.

hooraygil 2018-12-06 13:34

Really curious about this projekt! I'm at work so will leave a comment to get back later! :-)

wowa 2018-12-06 15:20

This is pretty artistic and refreshingly different from the games I have played so far! Very well done!!!

*Cracks knuckles*

Alright, I have a lot to say about this one.

First, before I get into it, might I humbly suggest you host the download of this game on itch.io? Even though everything was on the up-and-up, every step of the download process, from opening MediaFire, to closing a popup, to telling Chrome NOT to discard the single executable file I was downloading and running on my computer made me nervous and almost back out. It's probably best to remove as many barriers to entry as you can for people who want to play your game. :)

That being said, I'm really glad I DID play this. You have a very unique style that, while slightly off-putting at first, really starts to grow on you. It almost scares me how much this reminds me of my own past experiences with relationships and break-ups. My very first game I ever made tackled the exact same subject matter, though maybe a bit more conventionally with 2D platformer mechanics (my icon is actually the icon for that game and I use it almost everywhere).

While I focused more on the general shittiness of break-ups, I think you really captured the heart that is the creative element. I found it especially profound the way you used the bottled up memories of your ex to fuel the creativity of your work, while at the same time questioning whether or not it was a healthy thing to indulge in. I connected with that scene because I recall doing the *exact same thing* with love letters from my ex when making my game, and I've never seen that idea conveyed with mechanics before. Very excellently done!

With every scene, there was always a risk of coming off as pretentious, or having the concept fly over the players' head. And while that will likely be the case for some players, I think that anyone who's been through a situation like this will be able to find SOME meaning or personal connection with each of the mechanics like I did.

I play LD games to have fun, dammit. You had to go and make me all introspective and shit. :P

Truly though, thank you. This was excellent.

zigg 2018-12-08 18:18

I really enjoyed this and I didnt fully get the meaning but the mechanical elements were great in my opinion. I might need to go look at the other two entries you have made if they interconnect to this project at all.

stames 2018-12-08 18:45

Wow that was a verry verry nice piece of art. I realy enjoyed it. just one thing if you have two monitors the mouse cursor just moved out of the one you were playing the game sometimes that was a bit frustrating but I don't know if there is a qick fix for that in your game. You have written this is the last part of your thrilogy but pleas continue making games like this. this surreal style is amazing

chauchau 2018-12-09 22:19

This a great entry. I'm gonna play the previous ones to put everything into perspective. I loved the finale and the end screens. It's very well made and it makes you relate in many ways. Well done!

tymus 2018-12-10 12:49

Wow, congrats, the mood of this entry is fantastic, great use of noise/ambiant sounds

Not sure I got everything you put in but I really enjoyed it eitherway <3

gaming-night 2018-12-10 12:56

Wahou, I just felt in love with your art direction :)

justcamh 2018-12-10 13:35

I quite liked the surrealist, dithered art-style; it really hooked me onto the game. The content went a bit over my head, but after reading other comments, it has been well clarified. From what others are saying about the story, it seems very in depth and personal; quite the feat to be portrayed in a game.

sumathbrod 2018-12-10 16:42

Good idea of filing a story. Very cool stylized. Need more!)

pinho 2018-12-10 20:20

Need time to forgot the one you loved. Need to create something, i see. And, after that, There are so much celestial bodies in space and you are a shooting star.

Thank you for this game, Joarez.

vlad-ilisan 2018-12-10 20:27

Windows said it might be a virus so I didn't risked playing it..you should check that if it's not.

annagavaldakedavra 2018-12-17 14:02

It is a brilliant game, i enjoyed how well you introduced and used mechanics to convey the emotions underlying the story. After breaking bottles on my head for a while, when i started typing, i became quite frantic, then reflective, and then just sad. Being able to make the player feel different kinds of emotions in a short game is hard, and you did it admirably !

2018-12-19 15:50

Hey, anyway you can reach out and send me an email? Jupi@JupiterHadley.com - I'd like to talk to you about a project...

sam-machell 2018-12-19 17:04

is there any chance you could build this for mac? im desperate to play it!

2018-12-20 14:18

Really lovely game, as always! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/a-epgKaAyrI

toadietechnika 2018-12-24 03:09

This is a freaking deep game about love and efforts, one of my favorite entries so far. Things get really intense, but it cut short because of this error on the part where the guy in a suit contemplates his effort: stackBug.png

I will play the rest of the trilogy, this game is really hits the spot. Weird is always good. Please make more games like this!

bitsandcrafts 2018-12-26 17:15

good job, had a great time. going to play your other games. keep making them, love it.
