Bit confusing, and the turns were too short. Wasn't much strategy, just taking turns chucking bananas. I'm impressed with the gorilla model, that you could make it in such little itme

3 seconds is quite less time, but I liked playing the game. there sould just be one or a half second to orient yourself, before the timer starts and you gain movement control. Like "Enemy turn ended", "your turn starts in 1 second", "your turn, GO!"

manimal 2018-04-24 19:39

Dude where you get the trees, do you have a special tool for it? I m doing some drone simulator and I m looking exactly for these kind of trees.

Defeat the enemy gorila was no a big deal, some challenge is missing for me.

masterkrepta 2018-04-26 20:47

Thank you everyone for playing. The 3 second turn was actually a oversight from my last minute testing, I corrected the number to 7 seconds, which is more inline with what i had intended.

masterkrepta 2018-04-26 20:50

@mAnimal thanks. The trees i used are actually part of the the environment package in unity.

On one hand, the AI seems to be pretty hones and don't appear to dash towards the player before visual contact is established...

But this results in the early game being spent mostly on trying to figure out where the enemy is...

I was able to engage the enemy when I climbed up the log and enemy spotted me. The bad thing was that the enemy turned out to be behind me so he got a drop on me with first shot... But good thin was I was able to take cover under this very log, and use peek-throw-hide tactic to the win.

This is clever! Tough genres to combine, but it works - this could be really interesting against a human player. Really solid artwork too; looks like you put a lot of time into it. Nice work!

panagiotis-iatrou 2018-04-27 11:53

Harambe is not dead  Nice game

ditzel 2018-04-27 12:02

I like the sunny landscape

spthiel 2018-04-27 12:08

It's a nice game with a great concept but I have some complaints: 1st the explosion sound is relatively noisy compared to the footsteps (which get louder the closer you are to the enemy if I noticed that correctly) 2nd upon restart of the game there's no timer anymore 3rd If you stand inside the AI gorilla it can't hit you nor will it move

phearbot 2018-05-01 01:17

Nice work! I think it would be nice if there was a little more to the throwing, but with short turns that'd be tricky. I see in your comments above that you increased the time later though, which would maybe make a worms style charge up throw on the bananas possible.

nvrskipgameday 2018-05-01 02:52

Loved the whole thing. Easy to jump into - I was weirdly pleased to find that I, too, am a gorilla. I don't know where we acquired exploding bananas from, but I threw with all my might and fury and became the only gorilla in the pen. It is my world now.

This was honestly great, very smooth and a great submission.

ryzy27 2018-05-01 11:16

The scene looks very nice and seeing the gorilla standing there, getting closer is kind of terrifying. It would be great if there was some music. Textures are great and I got sucked into the game. Great entry.

abhimonk 2018-05-02 02:26

I really liked this game! Turn-based FPS is a great mashup of genres. The game was pretty satisfying too. It was fun to lob a banana and immediately take cover to protect myself during the enemy's turn. I found that it was pretty easy to cheese the gorilla by hiding behind a tree. It might have been more fun if the gorilla pursued you around the tree, forcing you to re-position more.

That said, I think this game was very fun. I think this genre mashup in general is a great combo. I also loved the art for the gorillas. Great work!

not-the-real-mark-zhang 2018-05-02 02:29

I clicked this game for the gorilla and I was not disappointed. The two themes were straightforward and worked out better than expected. I really felt like a gorilla in the zoo fighting over my turf. The only downside I felt while playing was the time, maybe have it jump down to 2 or 3 seconds.

menushka 2018-05-03 02:38

Good start, but a little too easy. I think a smarter AI and many multiple enemies would make the game a lot more fun.

rewzu 2018-05-03 16:10

Quite decent game! Fun to play! The AI could be a bit better though. :D

milo87 2018-05-03 16:58

I managed to trick the AI by running behind a log and ducking out from around it on my turn... The other gorilla just ended up standing still letting me chuck bananas at him!

Overall a very good game for the timeframe, though. I was impressed by the environment

kr4ft3r 2018-05-04 21:46

One of reasons I love this is because I remember Qbasic Gorillas. Watching enemy turn from 1st person is an interesting feature, really adds to the atmosphere. The game idea definitely has potential.

masterkrepta 2018-05-04 23:52

Thank you @kr4ft3r. When i was brainstorming this game concept I actually had qbasics gorillas in mind, It was one of my first non commercial games when i was younger.

ecmjohnson 2018-05-06 02:12

This game was a fun intro-[duck](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/motherducker)-tion to a great concept! Would love to see this idea taken even further with more objects to throw or maybe more complex map planning. The AI of the NPC Ape was impressive and fun to play against. WEll done!

irwatts 2018-05-06 18:49

I thought the genre concept and premise was interesting and funny! I was able to easily cheese the AI by standing behind a log and tossing bananas over it, but still had fun. The SFX were a little jarring, with the explosions being a pretty harsh sounding. The turn time felt a little short. It would be cool if instead of being tied to time, you had action points you could spend by moving or firing bananas. Overall nice work!

schizoid2k 2018-05-09 01:21

For some reason, it took me a while to understand what to do... I played the HTML5 version, so maybe it's a bit different? Once I figured out when it was my turn, I understood what to do, and went in for the attack. Nice concept. Good graphics.

smietan 2018-05-15 19:19

Nice. God job

steve-sparkes 2018-05-15 19:58

Good job with the entry! The game was a bit intensive for HTML 5, so maybe keep that in mind for next LD! Some extra feedback on who's turn it is, and which gorilla is which in the "banana-cam" would be a great addition to the game. The graphics were great for a game jam entry, and the gorilla reminded me of retro sock puppets! Keep making games!
