Interesting concept, it's a mix of RTS and multitasking game. You really have to start splitting your forces and have pac-man groups ready to hit any tower that appears on map, and you have to do it fast. I like the graphics and the gameplay. The map scrolling could be faster but that's a minor complaint. Well made game!

Cool idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQphYmNNYE4
I don't think I really see the Tower Defense part of it? Seems like a cool RTS idea with some pacmen as units. I like the idea of territory control with the spawning towers.
If you have time, check out my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/golden-beak-golf :)
Good job! Cool game!
I rate your game, if I can give a game in my game, Witch's Escape.

It's a good game. The ground shader doesn't seem to work on Mac tho
I liked the idea of managing your pacmen to attack more towers. However, usually I'd have to wait a long time before a tower spawned, so it was kind of frustrating. The game is nice and the grid map idea gave an arcade feeling while I played. Good job on making this game!

I liked the RTS mechanic as a lover of this genre, but i didn't feel the Pacman gameplay enough, other than the graphic style, so it appear to me like a single genre game, a real time strategy.
When several towers spawn it becomes interesting because you need to split your unit to lower the damage
Your pathfinding AI is pretty good and the behaviour of the units is really good too. With a pacman / rts mix, i would think about adding some ghost, and have to find a way to reach some gold nuggets to fight them
So, nice job in mechanic for a game jam, but you can take your theme farrer : D
Here's our game, if you wanna take a look : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blocksnblaster-1

I confirm the graphics are broken on Mac, just purple screen and yellow pacmans.

@el-pepi thanks for playing my game, strange that it doesn't work on mac, can you post a screenshot?
@ElusiveMilestone thanks for playing! It was hard to balance the game so it isn't too hard in the beginning but the game becomes hard very quickly after the 2 minute mark.

@HPMNK thanks for the great feedback. I agree that I didn't make full use of the theme but I interpreted it in the sense that the two genres could define the game mechanics but also the art and music. I will check out your game for sure.
@Lerg that's unfortunate, can you tell me about your hardware so I can maybe fix this issue? Thanks!

@el-pepi thanks for the screenshot, I will try to fix this issue. Can you tell me about your hardware more specifically? I'm not sure if Mac supports DX11.

I think it's a Mac mini, I'm not so sure. It's from my job. I'm usually a PC user, haha.

Great idea! Never thought I would one day have an army made out of Pac-Mans. Hahahaha
Looks cool! I like the music too. Gameplay is lacking a bit, it's over pretty quickly and getting a good score is mostly about being lucky with where the towers spawn. It's more of a cool tech demo at the moment. Also I'm thoroughly missing the "wakka wakka" sound effect but I know being a compo game you probably aren't allowed to use it :P.

@JohnnyR thanks for the feedback, more is better than less :grinning:
@silkworm_sweatshop thanks for the constructive feedback. I'm hoping to make an improved version of this game with more mechanics and other towers + upgrades but a lot of the focus went into the unit selection mechanic and formation. Also, the "wakka wakka" sound effect would be really fun to have
Ha! nice job with the theme. I liked the art style in this a lot. Good work!
Nice game, fun to play!

@Lerg @el-pepi thanks for the valuable information. I have now fixed this issue and the game should work fine on MacOS

Love the game and sound, after some time my action become a bit repetitive, but really solid effort.
As a fan of both Age of Empires and Pacman, I really digged this game. The art is really cool and the game has a very good feel to it. Overall great job!
Interesting project which could become a solid game. I like the main (and unusual) gameplay. Maybe a little bit repetitive. Well done ++

This was very pleasant surprise for me. It is great to see here something inspired with good old AoE :) I really like this idea and will love to get back to it and play it again. Thanks for this great experience.

@TomekS @Re-Markable @Geckoo1337 thanks for the constructive feedback. I will keep this in mind if I decide to update this game!
@Jin9310 thanks for playing. Really glad that you liked the idea, I hope to update the game with new features and maybe create a full RTS someday
A solid dexterity challenge. That is what this boils down to as the only working strategy is, indeed, creating small groups all around the map and quickly giving them attack orders. I do enjoy such a challenge every once in a while though, so I don’t mind it too much. This being a mix of RTS and score hunting I can see why strategy took a back seat.
The user interface is simple, yet slightly unoptimal; I’m talking about group selection. The selection rectangle is an RTS classic, but in a hectic title such as this one it is arduous and prone to mistakes.
The minimap already groups pacmen together so why not allow double clicking one of them to select the whole group? Another possibility is showing a button over each group in the world, which acts as a hotkey for selecting the group (one of the few good features in Supreme Commander 2, btw.)
The battle music is pretty darn catchy for a tune made by an algorithm. The sound effects are nothing special yet functional. The menu scene looks and sounds different than the battle scene which is weird; the wireframe retro graphical style is good, so why not use that in the menu too? The visuals remind me of Darwinia and Multiwinia. You should play those if you haven’t already.
Good work in all.

@HuvaaKoodia thanks for the constructive feedback. Having hotkeys for the groups was something I planned to implement but a few of my "playtesters" thought that would make the game too easy, but that was before I balanced the game.
Double clicking on groups on the minimap should probably have been part of the game though. I'll keep these things in mind if I decide to make a full RTS game based on this.
Thanks for the game recommendation, I'll check out Darwinia and Multiwinia.
Good job taking the first place on the leaderboard by the way

When I understood it, it was pretty fun :)
A solid RTS pacman army vs. tower themed game ^^. Pretty fun, kinda cool looking, alright sound effects. Great work.

The direct HTML game link doesn't work (for me at least) for some reason..
Had to go to the game page > play game to get it to work.
Not sure if link expired or something but just letting you know this.
Anyways, about the game.
I really loved the graphics, wire frame style graphics look really cool and retro as heck :D loved it. Pacman is always great to see, fits well with the retro style graphics.
I was really into it as I love strategy games of this style, super fun super enjoyable very nicely put together! well done!
2 suggestions / complains
1- i'd love to see some kind of SELECTION thing... like when I drag I'd like to see what exactly i'm about to select... some kind of indicator, like all strategy games have. (but i understand you probably didn't have time to implement that
2- faster moving camera without having to click on the map to move the camera fast.
got to 12th place i think? maybe 11th, can't remember anymore :D fun stuff anyways!

@Elsiana Eaves @xoidberg thanks for the feedback
@vkmicro it seems that the token for the HTML5 expires and there is no permalink, so accessing the game via gamejolt is probably the only way. Glad you liked the game, thanks for the feedback!
Drawing a selection box when dragging was something I wanted to implement but kept procastinating it so it never happen, it will be the first thing I will implement if I make a post-jam version of this game

Very cool game! I like the difficulty, you can develop a real strategy which is always nice for a LD game. Often they are not very deep due to the time factor but this is a really nice game :-)
I miss the selection box, I found out by accident that you can select multiple pacmen at once.
Another thing that bugs me is that when you click on the mini map, it is not centered, the bottom part of the screen will be at that position so you always have to click BELOW your point of interest.
Why is the game 47 MB large, I can only imagine that it is because of the music. You could compress it and probably make it mono instead of stereo?
I like the simple 3D graphics, the height field seems not to change the physics but it looks nice :-)
Overall a very cool game, keep up the great work!

@gonutz thanks for the constructive feedback! I wish I took the time to implement the selection box but you know Ludum Dare, it is hard to do all the things you planned
Anyway, thanks for the tips. I will keep those things in mind if I do a post-jam version of this game.

Interesting idea, never expected to see pacman in this type of game.. decent and something that isnt just "select everything and attack at once". great entry!

No pellets or fruit?? :D j/k, this was fun. Good work.
Arcade + RTS is a very interesting combination, and not one I've seen thus far. I found it somewhat difficult -- I tried to split my guys into groups, but didn't do so very well, and the towers often spawned on the opposite side of the map from where my groups were, which is probably due to me not making enough of them...
An "easy mode" could just be making the time you get for each tower be a bit higher.
