Fun little game. Interesting concept. I quickly skimmed the instructions and didnt realize my flipped tiles would hurt me. Worth noting that you can occasionally position yourself to flip two tiles horizontally as you move, which makes things go a bit quicker, and is probably a bit of an exploit

Very fun game, arcade worthy indeed. I like the chibi style and the Edm music. I will play this again.

Hold Z while moving with arrow keys!

I feel this game is close to being a lot more enjoyable -- the second stage was REALLY big but there wasn't any extra threats compared to the first despite it taking like 6x longer. Maybe giving the player a health bar that drains CONSTANTLY, but drains extra fast when on the "red" spaces would help give it more urgency.

bookworm31 2017-12-04 07:46

Cool game; it looked like it was going to be a lot easier that it actually was! (Or maybe I'm just bad!) Some sort of indicator of when the color was about to flip might have been nice, but overall, it was rather neat. I also really enjoyed the music.

very fun and arcady! I like it!

simonhutchinson 2017-12-04 16:54

Looks cool! Any chance for a web or mac version?

Hi! There are interesting elements in the game, like the idea of having two kinds of phases, and the fact that the tiles that you have colored yourself can harm you.

However, everything is too predictable and repetitive: the ennemies patterns are very basic, the timing is always the same. It could have been nice to make a procedural system for the phases, so that only a variation in the music would indicate that there will soon be a change of state.

There are problems with the collisions: sometimes you step on a square and its color doesn't change, and sometimes ennemies harm you without touching you. Moreover, it should be possible to color the square you're on, instead of coloring a square only when stepping onto it (it is very annoying when you begin to color and have to come back).

The first levels are somewhat easy, but in level 5 the areas are small and with negativities enough to make the challenge of the game. The switching idea is nice, it give the player the sense of urgency to stay save after a while and not waste any time. It will more interesting if the negativities have any AI and not just move random. In general, very good job! Congrats.

Its QBRET, except the floor is sometimes lava! Neat idea, and it was pretty fun to play too, though I do wish there was something i could do during the dark phases of gameplay. having to wait it out is a bit of a drag. Great job on the music/audio btw ^_^

imod 2017-12-05 17:55

Interesting game idea and music is very attractive. After 5 stage game give a challenge. But i not always understand where be placed green cell. Anyway game is good.

deatrathias 2017-12-05 22:22

Interesting idea and good music. The main issue I have is that during the dark phases, you really can't do anything, so you just sit there, and the shadows aren't really an issue if you're not moving either.

epb9000 2017-12-06 06:24

I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but you can run pretty quick by running diagonally into the walls. I liked it though, it made some of the stages an interesting "which wall can I ram myself into next to clear this faster" challenge. I'd be bouncing from wall to wall to cover as much as possible before the inversion phase settled in.

It would have been cool to be able to color tiles during the inversion phase, and have any tiles colored there hurt you in normal phase. This would give you something to do during the inversion phases, and add a bit more difficulty and strategy to the normal phase.

azathothep 2017-12-06 14:44

Music seems to be good , but unfortunatly i couldnt hear it :(

However the theme is well respected and the idea is good but the game become quickly boring as it's always the same thing : color, wait, color, next level.. Maybe you should add homing enemies or random powerups, and nothing warning you about color swap.

The game got some annoying bug too : some tiles are not painted by holding Z and we take damage when we were painting during swap

rngsilvercraft 2017-12-06 16:37

epb9000:That's not intentional...but you can treat it as kind of an exploit :) Azathothep:The music is actually the indicator when the color swap.

Interesting game, especially the gameplay. These graphics are not my cup of tea, but they are not the main interest :)

fluidvolt 2017-12-07 00:35

Enjoyed the music and gameplay idea is interesting. Reminds me a little of [Make Trax](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Make_Trax), just in the paint the floor objective. I enjoyed the EDM music and the dynamic changing when the colors inverted... now everything you painted hurts you! Good work :)

calighula 2017-12-07 08:51

I like the idea of harmful coloured tiles. Good work!!! :-)

gamedevbynight 2017-12-07 16:38

This is a good game. I like that the music is the indicator for the "negative" phase! :)

clachipso 2017-12-08 05:03

The concept of negative space is a unique and fun idea. I also liked how the music changed when everything went negative. Nice work!

alottabit 2017-12-08 05:37

I like your take on the theme and enjoyed playing the game. Solid graphics and music as well - it was cool how you cued the transition from the background track. The AI could've used a bit more variation, but overall nice job!

fangzhangmnm 2017-12-08 05:51

Music-based timing is no-doubt excellent solution. And that make the game can be played comfortably for a long time. Liked your edm. and liked the girl. The shadow enemy is a lot of reverie.

zinkler 2017-12-08 12:38

Extremely good! The music is good, and the timing idea is just perfect - please correct it a little bit, it goes for a small increasing delay after each loop. Again, a great game!

hilvon 2017-12-08 21:11

Really fun game. But having an in-game controls description would be handy. I mean WSAD-movement is conventional, but Z to interact with tile is non intuitive...

And there are some wierd collisions happening... but maybe it's just me being clumsy.

terryg 2017-12-11 03:18

Very interesting idea and well executed. Fits well with the theme. Took me a while to realize that you have move AND hold the z key. Here's a video of my game play: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/208560286?t=00h00m13s

grentacular 2017-12-11 11:35

The hitboxes were a little weird in that I couldn't always tell what square the game thought I was in, and I would have liked some indication other than the music as to when the stage reverses so that I can play without sound, but overall I had fun playing the game. Nice work!

creativewhisper 2017-12-12 12:52

Great concept and good execution. It's a simple game but the mechanics work pretty well. Maybe a tutorial or something that explains how to play inside the game would be better than on a txt. SOmetimes i managed to start painting to tiles at once moving diagonaly and it makes a huge advantage, don't know if its intended. I like the two phase play and that your own tiles could hurt you. Pretty adictive when you reach the later stages. Good take on the theme, great work.

remco 2017-12-12 19:43

Unique concept! I had some fun as well

(I _almost_ missed that I had to _hold_ Z, as some other people in the comments _might_ just have...)

That said, I missed a visual timer or something for how much time I've left until we enter the negative zone, or vice-versa. (Or is that intentional?)

I was also impressed by the music (for 'just' a compo entry). I've even noticed you've made a second song, but hide it all the way in level -- what was it... 5 or 6? Which would be just a-OK for a 'full' game, but (sadly) remember that some people might only play your game for about 2 minutes when judging on LD. _(Maybe there should be another compo where people play each others game longer, but that would probably also require a longer creation time as well.)_

rngsilvercraft 2017-12-13 03:51

@remco The second song plays in stage 5~8,and actually I think it's better than the first song...
