Unfortunately I can't play this game because it's Windows-only, but it looks great!

I saw your post about synchronization. In my experience with doing rhythm games, I found it useful to actually sync to have a master audio track that I know the BPM for, and then do some math to actually sync to the samples of that track (e.g. 120bpm track at 48K would be 24K samples between beats). That way you never have to worry about getting off as long as everything is locked to the sample count of the master.

I did the math to sync time based on the beat, didn't think about using actual samples though! good advice, thank you! Sorry it's a windows only... I have an HTML 5 version but it's 600MB and free hosting is 500MB max.

+1, would appreciate a Linux build.

Having said that, are you sure it's meant to be ***600MB***?! That's huge!! I watched the gameplay and it does look fun, but I genuinely can't imagine what could possibly be making the file that big. Usually if a game is Windows exclusive I can run it under a kind of emulator, but this file is simply too big. Needless to say, I won't be voting.^^

A nice rhythm game, I liked how things were syncing up nicely on my end so nice work on that!

I had some trouble adjusting to the control scheme, solely because I felt off-put by the need to actually _hold Left or Right Arrow to be on a different lane_ instead of just having basic "move to left or right lane by pressing corresponding direction".

The spherical nature of the level makes it harder to see what's coming at you when it gets faster rather quickly too. So maybe the assets could be a little bit smaller compared to the Earth to allow a bit more headroom? Maybe, whether that's a noteworthy issue or I'm just too slow remains to be seen depending if others feel the same way.

Overall a very good effort, and a good entry. Well done!

@devastus I tested the "normal" lane movement control scheme and found that friend enjoyed holding it. as for things getting fast: listening to the beat really helps. The current high score among friends is around 1:40 which is just the beginning of level 3. It is set up so that as you get better, the game is still challenging in the higher level.

@alexhoratio It's very heavy because of things Unreal Engine 4 puts in. I threw away a lot of unused assets and now it's much smaller.

Updated files (also in main subject): * windows x86 (lighter pak): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8Pq_kamLRq9bmRUQk45M0w3ZFU * windows x64 (lighter pak): https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8Pq_kamLRq9UWRZNFRQY1p2bjg

I'm also working on a Linux port, it's compiling.

nilead 2017-05-01 15:45

It' a little too heavy for a game jam... My internet is too slow for this I'm afraid...

josefalanga 2017-05-01 16:06

Big ass game! I downloaded the lite version, and it's still huge! This can be a obstacle for the people trying to judge the game. That said, good game!the music could have been less repetitive, but loved the visuals! This looks like a good material for a post jam development.

Catchy music ! When I saw the screenshots, and when I lauched the game, I thought it was some kind of Katamari game where you have to collects lego bricks.

Then I failed 3 or 4 time until I understood I was supposed to avoid them.

While playing, I couldn't get the "beat" to avoid the obstacles in rhythm... Maybe because of the controls that are quite hard to master. But It felt completely off...

But the sound design is great, and with better controls, I think it's a great concept !

dink-dunk 2017-05-01 21:16

Not bad! I had to force myself to stop playing. Sometimes the beats matched up and other times it felt really off. The game is really too large in size for the gameplay that you have, I don't know how you managed to do it tbh! fun little game overall!

nvrskipgameday 2017-05-04 02:20

So the music for this is fantastic, and I love the look. It would be nice if the world started out rolling a bit slower and then sped up over time (or maybe just start with fewer beat points), but that's really my only suggestion. I had a great time playing, the whole feel of it was very fun.

occultone 2017-05-04 05:26

I Played this on Livestream a bit ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwY1-PtcDqs

I have no idea how to avoid the obstacles, the game kind of just throws you into gameplay and jumping through the wall didn't seem to work for me, even when pressing W.

fpwong 2017-05-05 11:24

Nice game, not a big fan of the hold to change lane controls but I got used to them after a bit. Highest score was 1:49. One criticism is that I found the fresnel emissive on the planet was a bit too high, so you couldn't really see obstacles coming down very well from the top but other than that everything else was great.

jk5000 2017-05-06 08:05

The idea is okay, but the difficulty level is really hard. The graphics is great, and music fits the game very well.

breadmower 2017-05-06 16:01

Novel take on rhythm games, though I seem to lack the co-ordination to get very far - I panic and let go of left/right when trying to punch! As someone else said, perhaps pressing to change lanes, rather than holding would make it a bit easier (or let the player choose?). Good fun, though :-)

PS: Love the plot :-)

fenwick 2017-05-10 01:29

This was pretty fun! The difficulty was a bit high, usually rhythm games are a little more forgiving :).

Every once in a while the music seemed to get off-beat, but after dying it seemed to sync up again? Not sure what the deal was.

philomory 2017-05-16 00:07

This is pretty difficult, also the controls are not _super_ intuitive; it took me a while to figure out that you only went left or right for as long as you held the button, for example.

That said, it's a cool idea, and the aesthetic is very funny.
