Hi @btwj, I really like this. It took me a couple of plays before I fully understood everything (for example - I didn't realise that you could have two things occupy the same square). It's a shame there is no audio as it could have added a little more atmosphere but despite that - I thoroughly enjoyed it! Hopefully you will continue to develop it? Excellent work!

I got wiped out eventually. My energy was always max, but as soon as I reached a crisis and I didn't have the cards available, there wasn't much I could do. Especially when the mines collapsed, I had a tonne of mines and refineries but the quantity of metal was decreasing more every turn than the amount I was generating, so it was impossible to make any new buildings. Because of this, I couldn't draw any new cards - there was pretty much nothing I could do for a bunch of turns.

The crises feel a bit overpowered perhaps.

But otherwise, a cool entry. Nice work.

I'm usually not a big fan of turn-based card games, but I actually liked this one a lot! The visuals are clear enough so it doesn't need much introduction, the rules are fairly simple and understandable, visual feedback is given with animations (sound would be cool too, maybe in a post-compo version?). The difficulty balance might need a little tweaking, but all in all, this is an awesome, visually appealing and fun game! Nicely done!

Okay, I probably played this one longer than most of the jam games. Unfortunately, it felt like after a while it didn't seem to be going anywhere. I'd build my population up, then it would go way down because of a crisis or 8 deadly ships in a row. It's a good game and I would love to see you keep working on it.

An unique and fun mix of resource management, base defense and a card game. Eventhough it's a little bit more complex, I think you did a good job explaining the mechanics at the beginning. I especially liked the strategy and planning part, for example when the placement of your buildings on the grid mattered. The card mechanic was a nice addition. The interface, visuals and graphics were really nice too.

The hazard event system is an intersting implementation, but in my playthrough the first event was Mine Collapse, which made it impossible for me to build new turrets and defend myself against attacks, which made me loose the game immediately. That was a little frustrating, so overall maybe the balancing could have been better.

Aside from that I had a good time playing. Great work, good luck and see you next jam! :-)

Really cool puzzle game, could do with a bit of polish, but considering the time frame, that goes for most games. Overall though I really enjoyed it, unique and fun!

Liked the card based building system, but I didn't see the resource cost of each building. Well, it is a fun game, well done!

At first I skipped the explanation at the start, but after being unable to get anywhere I restarted and gave it a quick read. Turns out the 10 metal requirement for buildings is what held me back. Some in-game way of making that clear would of course help. A "cost to build" on the tile information would do it. And the numerical effect of a crisis (for example: mine collapse - metal production reduced) is a hidden value. I'd like to see how much less I am producing.

When I started writing my feedback I noticed someone else mentioning constructing multiple buildings in one square. This seemed a bit hit and miss, sometimes replacing the previous building and sometimes being dropped alongside. I think bonus structures can exist alongside resource buildings? In any case, there's room for improvement in informing the player there.

The art is basic but works in conjunction with explanatory text. The building icons don't seem to all be from the same perspective. I'd like to have seen the asteroid represented visually somehow.

Overall a pretty solid concept with potential, it just needs a little polish for it to feel complete. Nice job!

I love the mechanics. Even though it took me a while to figure out how the stacking works (to be hones, I am still not entirely sure, I think can have one building and one improvement on the same tile, but not two buildings or two improvements). I got a little annoyed that there was no goal and I had to loose at some point, but that's just how high score games work. Great job.

kaisean-games 2017-05-14 11:28

Cool. I've tried something similar a few LDs ago.

One thing is not described clearly enough - that you can have two buildings on the same tile (one modifier and one production).

Another thing I didn't understand is why an enemy ship did not attack me. When I destroyed it, another one came after a few trading ones and that did attack. Why didn't the first attack?

Also, what can I do with trading ships?

The game itself is fun and with a few tweaks it would be even better.

p.s. ships cover the date.

I survived until November 2064. I don't usually play this sort of thing but I really enjoyed the resource management here. I didn't figure out the stacking mechanic though. I only found out about it after reading some posts here :) Great job on the overall implementation!

Really solid entry. Cool idea, easy to play but hard to master. A bit to random imho and I couldn't quite understand if it is possible for turrets to destroy enemy ships before they could damage my fields (other way than by special action card) but anyway that was a really enjoyable 10 minutes. Good job!

c0nst4ntin 2017-05-15 14:52

Realy nice game man. I like the art and the idea. I'm not the biggest fan of these games though but overall a nice game! And also a really big thanks for rating my game!

Pretty nice game you got here ! I love how complex it is despite what it looks at first ! The all card turn based thing got me until i died after 20 minutes playing, mine crisis killed me ! Overall, what i loved most, is the "small world" concept based on the permanent sensation of not having enough space, being it on the card board, or the game plateau ! It, of course, lacked so much of audio, your games wouldn't have much things to regret after that !

Good job !

diegoctorguet 2017-05-15 22:45

Cool game. It has a slow begining but when you catch how it works it can give you an entertained time. Good job!

nicruo 2017-05-15 22:49

Liked the game. I wish it had some music. The concept of card with grid is really nice gameplay decision.

csanyk 2017-05-16 01:39

Nice turn-based strategy engine. Would have benefited from some sound effects.

drury 2017-05-16 18:30

Man I love games like this. Really great job pulling this off, I just wish there was a goal to strive for (there isn't, is there? It gets quite brutal past 2060) I could spend hours beating this!

Didn't even realize I could put improvements on the same tiles as production buildings, the offset on the improvement sprites is quite subtle.

Not often that I lose track of time playing an LD game, again great job!

kate-kligman 2017-05-17 06:40

- Very clear instructions. I was interested in playing the board game version even before the game started. :)

- I was relieved when when enemies would miss, but it took me a few games before I wasn't killed almost immediately.

- The crisis cards definitely added flavor and broke things up a bit.

- Would suggest adding tooltips on the ships and making the date a bit more visible. It also wasn't clear at first when the enemy ship would start attacking.

- Would also be fun to see where the population is concentrated. Near the end of one of my more successful games almost everything got bombed away but my population was still quite high and seemed to increase. bombed_off_map.png

- The end-game is fun! After I stopped generating metal I held out much longer than I expected thanks to the bomb cards.
