At first I wondered how could one combine tentacle sea monster with 'one room' theme. And then I was disappointed.
The idea of multi-phase boss is really cool, but the unbalanced difficulty and poor graphics do not leave any positive feelings.

Funny game mate :)

Good...
THIS GAME IS SO HARD. Even on easy mode the boss is really hard to beat. Those damn laser beams! I like how it just lies down for your to beat it after it shoots you for awhile. Pretty fun game.
Fun but TOUGH.

I love how each tentacle is like a mini-game puzzle boss fight, and each of them are challenging and different. However, the game doesn't really fit the theme of the jam, so it has room for improvement.

It is fun, but very tough. But overall is not bad, maybe an epic boss soundtrack would fit. Good work!

Good idea, bad execution :/
Good game. My favorite level is number 2. The graphics are a bit strange, the character is pixellated, but the kraken is not. Good job!!
First mission i wondered even why i had a sword, maybe if he got caught in one of those spikes and the i could kill him some more with my almighty sword instead of just running about

Its ok.
It doesn't give off a unified feel, and it feels a bit messy. It doesn't say "one room" to me in any way, and it's pretty unbalanced. If it were to be fleshed out more, i feel like it could be quite fun. I've always been a fan of boss fights :)
Cool game - enjoyed tricking those damn tentacles into stabbing themselves. Hard which I like, with a bit more polish it could be awesome! Good luck in the future : ) Potato Dog
I bet it feels nice to have several levels fleshed out, PLUS a boss level! Awesome!
Great job!
Was a nice game and you have achieved quite a lot for the 48hr compo. I assume that you interpreted the theme as using only one GameMaker room and simply built an entire game without changing rooms? unfortunately I cant download the game source for some reason to check, but you should probably put it in your description so that people who don't use Gamemaker understand. Otherwise it was a very fun albeit difficult game.

Decent multi level boss fight and I found it very hard even on easy :) not really to theme but a nice little shooter. Thanks. -RS
Doesn't really fit the theme, but I love the variety of gameplay.
Like other people, I do find that balance of difficulty is an issue. A little less content and more focus on balance could have helped.
Something to think about for future events is game feel. When the monster's tentacles erupt from the ground, for example, there could be an explosive sound and heavy screenshake. This would sell the idea that you are fighting a giant beast. and hour to an hour and a half of work on game feel can easily bring a game to the next tier of quality.
Overall, a fine entry, but one that could be improved by a smaller scope that would allow more time for balance and polish.
I like how you have lots of different game mechanics going on, tentacle 3 was my fave, had to skip the 2nd because I am bad at bullet hells, and wow, that boss fight is intense. I enjoyed it tho

Really challenging, thanks for having a level select. I liked the wave 2 mechanic the best. I also think the player's hit box could be a little small, level 2 was really unforgiving.

That final fight is rough, music and feedback effects would've help a lot I think.

Funny to play but I didn`t like the graphics and I missed some background music. THe game could also use some balancing.

One of my first thoughs were to do a game and watch style game. Octopus by the point. Not similar but liked to see one. Well done

Yeah, I really liked this. The graphics weren't brilliant (although I thought the protagonist was somewhat adorable), there wasn't any music and some of the hitboxes were a bit janky (died way too many times in the bullet hell stage), but the game as a whole was a pretty nice idea.
Although it definitely could have done with some refinement, I quite liked the idea of having multiple stages that all teach you bits of how to handle the final stage. Of course, it might have been more interesting to change it up a little in the final stage so you have to think how to apply the skills you've learned, but for an LD game, I think it works.
Also, whilst the final level was a nice idea, some of the levels on their own are enough to deal with without having to think about anything else, so it got extremely hectic towards the end.
But at the end of the day, it was fun, so: good job! :D

I actually liked this a lot, individually each stage isn't terribly hard, but together it makes it a nice challenge. Each stage was unique, the hit boxes felt fair, and there was a nice simple little trick to each room that felt rewarding. I agree with some others that it felt "messy", or that there was a lack of unity (why are the tentacles shooting lasers?) but for a goofy little mini game it seemed fine. I thought the tentacle that came from the ground was actually a very well implemented mechanic, and consistent with the theme you were presenting.
And honestly if the game needs to be hard, it can be hard. Think I Want To Be The Guy. There is plenty of room for that, it's just about making the experience consistent. Overall I thought it was well done, and could've just used a little bit of polish.
I thought the multiphase idea was actually very clever, I haven't seen it packaged like this before. I was hoping the final boss was gonna be the whole shebang and you didn't disappoint.
This is a boss battle consists of 5 stages. Very brilliant idea, but it seems not related to the theme.
Maybe instead of fight the 4 tentacles at the same time you could have combine 2 or 3 of them and then switch ? =)
Pretty fun game, though, i don't just don't feel like you took the theme in consideration !

Fun and challenging - I couldn't get through it on the higher difficulty levels so I dropped to easy to experience everything. The different mechanics were clever and required a good range of skills.
A little more feedback when you hit and get hit would have gone a long way.
Altogether, a fun and engaging little romp!

Very good entry for compo. As you said, last boss is very tough due to multitasking. Though, without other tentacles, minion tentacle is very weak (I dunno, make enemies hurt hero on touch?)
Not bad. I can't say that I got very far but I thought it played pretty well.

Love the those bosses that only can be defeated by understanding how they work. Good job. Also the final battle with the 4 tentacles is just a mess!!! xD With a graphic upgrade could be a great jam game. Good work!
Hard but very funny, I like this game. Keep going!
Cool game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/sgVfFX3jjXQ
