| Oct 4 21:51:30 | Waltz Royale | ♥ 1 | My first score: `-5`. I feel like I'm better at Waltz in real life, although, to be fair, I've never had to deal with jets of fire. At some point I got confused as to which blob I was, I guess that's roughly equivalent to forgetting which foot is which... Typo in the first help text: says moves start on beat 1 or 6, should be 1 or 4, I think? I like the feeling of limited space, I was definitely always bumping into things or working hard not to =). My second attempt I got a score of 35. I had to concentrate _really_ hard to keep track of which way was "forward", and generally just tried to keep forward being toward the top of the screen, as that made it much easier. Despite that, I seem to have gotten turned around a couple times, it seemed like I did something marked with a left arrow, and then one marked with a right arrow, and I ended up 180 degrees rotated. I don't remember which ones, so maybe was just confused, but I really thought I should have ended up facing a different way. On that note, I think it maybe would have been much easier to control if the camera rotated so you were always facing forward, so the arrow icons lined up with the board. Or, for a twist, maybe the camera from the partner's perspective and getting spun around could be awfully disorienting, but fun =). | |
| Oct 4 23:44:47 | 1h 53m | CERT | ♥ 2 | I guess I was reading it wrong, but I was amused that I read the first answer as "NOPE", and then even more amused to find it in the dictionary =). The second puzzle confused me in that the boxes didn't fit perfectly like I was led to expect from the first one (left one letter uncovered, but not used in the word), but it didn't mess me up much. A number of the dictionary entries made me laugh out loud. A few I couldn't figure out or didn't get the reference. Page 25 gave me a lot of trouble, since there were so many valid placements that didn't spell words. Page 37 gave me even more trouble, I ended up writing a program to help, and the real answer (which I had stumbled upon earlier, but dismissed as not a real word) apparently was not even in my dictionary -_-. I finally completed this, both earning my certification (one day, you may also earn your certification in my game, perhaps ;), and winning the game =). Really cool, and quite long, I think I spent about an hour and a half on this! I liked the imaginative setting, and nice sketches for some of them. My only complaint is the 2 mentioned puzzles which had lots of valid slottings of the pieces that just didn't happen to make words. A couple more numbers along the sides would have made them slightly more duduce-able, I think. |
| Oct 9 23:01:14 | 119h 16m | roadtrip | ♥ 0 | Screenshot 2023-10-09 155820.png I win, right? I had a hang on my very first fun when I stopped at a gash station, then clicked "back". My second run went fine, but I avoided pressing those buttons down there except "skip". I laughed when I realized I couldn't take a person without their luggage, but I _could_ take just their luggage... Also, "people won't ride in the trunk", what's with that? :D I liked the music, although sounded a bit too oversampled to my tastes. Nice art on the characters. Not much going on gameplay wise though, I would have liked just a little motivation (score for how many people were delivered to safety or something?). |
| Oct 9 23:46:22 | 45m 08s | Stingy Seating | ♥ 1 | Pretty neat game! My interest started waning around level 11. Before that it was clear which tools I needed to use (picking up, then pushing), and on that level it wasn't clear which to use, and suddenly it's brain over load =). I'll probably have to go back and try to finish it up later though. I like that the mechanics are simple, and just trying things randomly doesn't seem to work, but a little thinking backwards from the goal usually quickly pays off, seems rare and fine to have all of those things together. I would have liked a little music or ambient sounds or something to set the mood a bit better, but other than that, this was pretty great! |
| Oct 9 23:57:15 | 10m 53s | If I Fits, I Sits! | ♥ 1 | Nice! My high score is 1095, after a few plays =). I really like the take on the theme, and the cat theming =). I was a little unclear at first as to how much of the head/tail/misc parts counted, and had a few times I failed and thought I should succeed, and vice versa, but then mostly got the hang of it (and stopped trying to go for a perfect fit ^_^). Some more cat-like sounds would have been nice. |
| Oct 10 00:21:53 | 24m 38s | Hazel & Hector | ♥ 1 | The difficulty ramp was a little slow for me, it wasn't until level 6 that I had to stop to think at all, but the last 5 levels were all really satisfying! My only complaint is that I sometimes started my drag (presumably) before the animation finished and then it didn't register - it would be nice if a drag during the last step of the animation would register, or if the mouse was already down when it entered the state of allowing a drag that it registered it, or something along those lines. The bunnies are adorable! |
| Oct 10 02:27:22 | 2h 05m | BoxBox | ♥ 1 | I got to 168! That was pretty cool, and very intense. I liked the color plus random string labels, it was just enough that I could organize things (by color, in my case) and recognize things (by string once in the right box) which was fun. Until I had one thingy in a wrong box somewhere =). I really like being able to spend as long as I want organizing between rounds, although it was never enough! A little sound would have been nice. |
| Oct 10 03:16:56 | 49m 34s | Fun Ant Game | ♥ 1 | That was a fun ant game! Most everything worked pretty well, except the Mysterious Dig that seems to have the cost and label mismatched (that's a bug you can reasonably fix post-compo within the rules, assuming it's just a typo on the label). I enjoyed figuring out where to put things, and although I made some mistakes, I think being unable to remove the tunnels I placed made my building more interesting =). Music was nice, but got a little too repetitive. I managed to bury Obama under an ant hill. |
| Oct 10 23:03:38 | 19h 46m | InvenStory | ♥ 1 | Beautiful game! Only complaint I've got is I'd liked to have had a stronger more visual snapping of where a piece was going to go when I let go, it often wasn't clear unless I was really watching the background. I loved all of the detailed art, and having different artwork for when they fail! |
| Oct 10 23:23:15 | 19m 37s | Far Away: A New Home | ♥ 1 | Very nice strategy game with a lot of depth for a jam! Ran into one bug if I was on the castle, then clicked to move somewhere, they clicked "capture", it'd move me off the castle and "capture" there (everything worked, just a visual glitch). I really liked that betraying a village/camp that you recruited from had consequences. I would have liked slightly more control in battle (sometimes it didn't seem to use the troops I would have picked), or some explanation of why it was picking those troops. |
| Oct 10 23:44:56 | 21m 41s | MIROH | ♥ 1 | HTML emulator doesn't seem to accept controller input :(. Tried it in Nestopia and got "Unsupported or malformed mapper" when loading :(. Similar error in Nester. Nesticle95 didn't run (why do I have so many old NES emulators installed?). Finally seemed to work in FCEUX =). This was really brilliant! I loved having to balance building up for a big combo but blocking off my own space to move around, that felt really good. At first I thought that the falling blocks would hurt me, and this was exacerbated by the flickering of the block/character when overlapped, but I quickly realized that was likely just NES sprite flickering, not actual feedback. My best score: 297 (second attempt). (edit: oh, sweet, that's top of the leaderboard!) miroh.png |
| Oct 12 23:55:11 | 48h 10m | Power signature | ♥ 1 | That was really cool, I played through to the end and enjoyed it. I really like balancing my loadout of items and robots, though I felt kinda sad leaving my original 'bots behind -_-. My only complaint is that the mouseover effect for where I'm going to move sometimes confused me (seems like it puts a black arrow in the final spot I could move into when I'm reaching too far, it's not until I move the mouse back near there that it turns into the light circle and I realize I can move one farther than the arrows seemed to indicate). Music was nice, didn't feel the need to mute it even once! |
| Oct 13 00:33:37 | 38m 26s | Micromachines | ♥ 1 | Wow, surprisingly deep for such simple mechanics! I was able to get through all of the levels, and I loved the last level, great way to end. An "undo" (reset 1 step back to before your last mouse click?) would be nice, I often found myself just barely messing up, or pushing something and then realizing what I should have done instead. |
| Oct 13 01:00:01 | 26m 24s | Function f | ♥ 1 | Really neat game! I like that it's math-themed without really requiring math to solve, really just interesting spatial patterns and puzzles. Slider was a little hard to use (too small/sensitive), I wish some keyboard key would have been available to toggle the sliders up/down instead. Music was great, it started getting stuck in my head (in a good way) at the end ^_^. |
| Oct 13 02:51:20 | 1h 51m | DeskStop-30 | ♥ 1 | Pretty neat! I sometimes had cursor problems - unable to click near edges of the screen, the cursor would escape the pico-8 section and warp over off the edge. Was mostly able to work around it by dragging a window around so that the close button/etc was closer the center. I got stuck on the "delete 5 cheat codes and keep the background white" task, I'm pretty certain I deleted 5 the first time, but _maybe_ the background had flickered momentarily to some other color right as I was clicking on it. I deleted a few more to be safe, background was definitely white, but he just gave me more viruses :(. I really enjoyed the feel of this mini OS falling apart! |
| Oct 13 03:05:08 | 13m 48s | TetraPolis | ♥ 1 | My high score: 14k. Really interesting idea! It feels like the start of something really unique, but didn't quite gel for me - I like the idea of trying to balance what buildings are in my play field, but at some point I ended up just playing Tetris and ignoring the rest. I'm actually not quite sure how I lost (play field was no where near full, was it just a timer somewhere?). If things were a little more strategic, this could be perhaps more interesting - maybe would be interesting to simply *not* clear lines like Tetris, just use those mechanics to fill up your city, and the money/food play in to how you clear space / just deal with events. Very nice entry though, I had fun playing it. |
| Oct 13 18:12:27 | 15h 07m | Bit Golf | ♥ 1 | Really cool, and nice to see another score-chasing optimization puzzle, if a bit more approachable than mine =). |
| Oct 19 01:13:20 | 127h 00m | Prison escape | ♥ 0 | I tried playing, but seem unable to do anything. Get stuck at screen with 3 options, and I can't click on them, and keyboard doesn't seem to do anything. Eventually hunger counted down and I died :(. |
