LD38 — A Small World

RocketFlee by sebbernery 2017-05-03T02:25:55Z

I really like the calm, happy music juxtaposed with the unrelenting rain of alien bullets. That said, I had some difficulty getting the defense mechanic to work, or to be effective? If the point is that it's hopeless, that's fine, but I think you might need a "Lose" state - I tended to just keep trying to build while feeling frustrated.

Heckin' Ants by Thirsty 2017-05-03T20:23:25Z

It's pretty impressive that you made this in 24 hours. It's simple, but you got a lot of good, varied, interaction in despite the time constraint, with a couple different terrain types, more than one hazard, etc. I liked the rain in particular, although I haven't met the lazer demon ant queen yet.

A couple nitpicks: The first time I interacted with an apple I was at full health - but especially without a health bar the lack of interaction was pretty confusing. There's also moment in the first level where you jump down from a platform (where a flag ant was standing) onto the ground, over some hazards that are below the camera view so you don't know they're there until you hit them or get lucky, which I find pretty frustrating.

Overall though, heckin' good game!

Tiny Planet, Big Universe by Daveybb 2017-05-03T02:08:39Z

I really liked the UI. It's something that can be kind of an afterthought, but you gave it some nice polish. Great Job!

@mateu - I think the submitted link is just incorrect, I found it here: https://someoneman.itch.io/mad-zomber

Warp Engineer Simulator by Kichiguy 2021-10-07T00:05:24Z

@driagonv Ah yes, we found that bug as well ... shortly before the submission deadline. To be honest, I kind of like it - by the time the game hits maximum difficulty having a few extra tries doesn't seem so bad :)

Warp Engineer Simulator by Kichiguy 2021-10-07T00:16:04Z

@meansquarederror : @kichiguy isn't totally correct. The base curve is (as he said) `(sin(x) + cos(x))` - but the value `t` is there for the animation, and isn't controlled by a slider. So essentially: we graphed `asin(bx) + c(cos(dx))` and used the sliders to control the variables a-d, with some multipliers to make sure that adjusting the slider had a noticeable affect. And then animated it.

It wasn't exactly a mathematically rigorous process - once we could draw a line we chose a simple-enough function that had some values we could adjust and then mostly went by feel. I think it might be possible that some of the puzzles have multiple solutions, but hopefully it's rare enough that those don't surface too often.

UN's Table by Ekoxe 2021-10-04T22:30:34Z

I really liked the local multiplayer! Also, the take on the theme is a fun pun :) Some of the voice line recording quality was a bit rough; but also I get how that happens.

Mothew vs The Light by Spice Cabinet 2021-10-05T02:32:30Z

I really liked the atmosphere! I'd love just a bit more contrast between the character and the background. Mothew blends in to his surroundings very well. Great protection from predators, probably, but difficult for me

Ascent by rbeattie 2021-10-05T00:53:16Z

Did y'all record Marcus playing live? It sounds great, if a touch quiet. More audio feedback for player actions would be great. For instance, I found it difficult to distinguish between the states of the controllable platforms, so sound there would help communicate that my input was accepted

Crazy Cauldron by Quite Good 2021-10-05T00:24:08Z

The details on this are really great, I appreciated the tutorial.

Clammy and the Seven Seas by IanTheBee 2021-10-07T02:18:41Z

Cute duck! very fun. Good job!

SplashX by IdeasPerSecond 2021-10-05T01:43:16Z

I had a lot of fun crashing a rocket repeatedly - I even landed it a few times (I got to 8 I think. It took a few tries  ) The music was really well chosen and the process of getting a feel for the controls was very satisfying. Great game!

Unstable Machine LD49 by albertmixalev 2021-10-04T22:55:58Z

I really like the blackboard aesthetic. Congrats on getting something done!

Ghosting the Party by Fer Gueler 2021-10-07T00:49:12Z

What a great concept (seasonally appropriate!) and beautiful art! I really liked the characters.

Tick Away by jackiex9527 2021-10-07T03:11:32Z

I exploded a couple of times before I figured out that the goal of the first portion was to keep the time bomb level - but that explosion was very chill. Good call! If it had been anything else it would've really interrupted the feel. Overall I think `a time bomb that make you think of the past` is a really cool idea. Good job! Y'all really nailed the vibe.
