LD58 — Collector

Halloween Knight by Artur Hawkwing 2025-10-07T19:27:35Z

Very cute colour pallete and I love the main character's design. The audio is perfect for the retro platformer aesthetic. The boss fight had very cool mechanics, but I spent too much time running into bats to have enough health for it. Great platformer and I would love to see more boss fights in this style. Well done!

Monkey Business by Marcus Otterstrom 2025-10-07T00:20:58Z

I love the zoo escape idea and how you interpreted the collector theme with it. Cosy and comedic, with very intuitive controls.

Blood and Bounty by Torami 2025-10-07T01:09:49Z

Love the art style and hex map, plus the controls are very intuitive. A very relaxing strategy game, even if I keep dying haha!

Eightatwenty by HNKXOBKA 2025-10-07T19:08:52Z

I really liked the sound design and the safe puzzle. The atmosphere is very effective and the floating animations were really cool. Interesting dust particle effect for the light windows. Some areas were a bit too dark and there was some harsh light flickering, but otherwise very effective. It felt very strange and the audio clips definitely help capture the "trapped in a dream" idea.

ASTRODEFENSE by zimny11 2025-10-07T19:59:17Z

The most amount of drones I have been able to make is 4, but I can't figure out how to charge the cannon, so I keep losing. The animations are very helpful for identifying what each drone is doing, so it would definitely help to have all the sprites much larger on the screen. The sprite art is nicely done as well so it would be great to highlight it.

I have worked out that if I set the first drone to work between the assembly line (top right) and mining facility (top left) I can start generating drones. I then set my second drone to move between the battery machine (bottom left) and the solar energy plant (bottom right) to create batteries to recharge the other machines. But I can't figure out how to progress from there.

I feel like this game could be really fun. Please put an update if you are able to provide instructions so I can try again!

Crown and Taxes by Hexela 2025-10-07T18:48:24Z

Very cute art style and a really fun spin on the resource management mechanic. Funny dialogue as well! There were some spelling mistakes throughout, but that's reasonable within the time limit! If you continue developing this, some kind of checkpoint or progress report scenes would make a big difference. Well done, great fun!

30 Days in the Fog by NBumgardner 2025-10-07T00:37:30Z

The watercolour style artwork is incredible. Immersive theme and interesting game mechanics. It took me a few turns to really understand the goal, but once it clicked it immediately had that "just one more turn..." effect!

Super Fruta Sort by denilseven 2025-10-07T19:32:09Z

Wow that is so difficult, but really cool! It feels like it's training a new part of my brain! Awesome idea and very well executed!

Out of Chalk by JustCore 2025-10-07T21:06:21Z

I love these kinds of puzzle games. The combination of strategic object movements with the matching enemy pathing adds a level of challenge and planning that is really fun. The visuals are sleek and the sound design is atmospheric without being distracting. Love it!

Flag Collector by Beebster Games 2025-10-07T19:17:01Z

The movement is very responsive with a particularly well done camera. Like the background music and the flag collecting concept is a great idea. I wish I could see the particular state flags during gameplay or perhaps have another counter indicating which flags I am close to earning. The large map of flags was a great addition. Great work!

Before I Go Blind by LesDremlet 2025-10-07T17:50:59Z

Such a wonderful project that feels like an art gallery experience. Very clever use of story set up to create tension in an otherwise beautiful scene. I wish there was more, but the fact that there isn't makes the moment that much more powerful. Well done!

Sword collector by OttoBroccoli 2025-10-07T18:17:01Z

Herald of Fury + Last Swing is the best combo! Really fun, love the art style and sound design. The tutorial is really satisfying, which highlights just how much attention has been put into every aspect! Screenshot (20).png

DEBT? DECLINED. COLLECTORS? DEFLECTED. MY BALCONY? A BASTION. by BigTasty 2025-10-07T20:12:09Z

Fun game and a unique concept. I would prefer if the aiming upgrade was the base aiming mechanic as I found the starting version too difficult to estimate with. Very fast and challenging even with the upgrades/unlocks so it stays fun to play throughout!

@adrien-tremblay @nbumgardner Thank you for letting me know! I’m not sure why it didn’t zip properly. I will try to fix it first thing in the morning (Uk) and then add another message here to notify that it is ready. Sorry about this!

@adrien-tremblay @nbumgardner Thank you so much for your comments last night. The download is now fixed!

https://sarahchildsgyzracom.itch.io/ld58-totem-traveller

After reading documentation (then reading reddit to understand what that documentation meant!) I learned that I did not have the SDK correctly installed. The .exe file is now included in the zipped folder and works. It is also a reduced overall size and hopefully downloads a lot faster than before.

Thank you for taking the time to help me!

@gat Thank you so much for playing! Honestly, it's just awesome to know that someone has taken the time to play something I made. Thanks for the kind words on the art! I will definitely keep going and hopefully this is just the start of everything!

@egor-ae-game Thank you, I'm glad! I hope to try more 2D/3D hybrid methods in the future!

@basic-eagles Thank you so much! It was a fun challenge!

@temmyt Thank you so much! I'm a big fan of 2D art and really enjoyed experimenting with how to navigate large environments with it.

@lizardinblizzard Thank you! I'm glad you like the main character! Next time I will dedicate more time to add art throughout!

@khamekaze Thank you for the advice and detailed thoughts, I really appreciate it. I have been playing a lot of PS2 and PS1 games lately and would love to see the 2.5D genre expand on a wider range of retro game inspirations. Yeah, the camera definitely needs work to make it smoother and keep the core focus in shot. But there are certain angles that are so fun with it that I want to explore more (I am particularly inspired by Final Fantasy 8's static camera with 2D backgrounds or Ocarina of Time's changing camera for stealth missions.) I think adopting a camera inspired by Journey would really improve it. Thank you, I will definitely aim to be focused in the future so that I can give time and attention where it is needed.

Thank you so much to everyone who played, it really means a lot to me!
