Nice game wll done!!

kluvenlaroplan 2025-04-08 17:49

Loving this cute little fish! and jumping and swimming around overall felt really satisfying! aaand the Plop Sound!!! ah so nice!

First game! Great job - I personally would like to have kept some control while in the air, as it to me got quite frustrating not being able to attempt to correct my jump after the initial jump action! - altough this is subjective!

smugsman 2025-04-08 18:11

The controls and graphics are a bit harsch on the eye at first but the difficulty curve balances itself out exponentialy over playtime. Otherwise this is AMAZING!!1! :smile:The fish character is fun, the level design is well balanced and everything packs up neatly at the end. Im sure this first game of yours is the beginning of something great (but youll never outdo our 2d barely functioning games muahahah >) )

It's a cool game for my first job, I also made a game for the first time, it's also on the jam)

sangheli 2025-04-09 09:11

This game does a great job of portraying the life of an ordinary fish and the challenges it overcomes during evolution to make its way onto land.

The first time you leave the water, everything is confusing (graphical glitches simulate poor vision), and it's nearly impossible to move with fins on solid ground (hello inverted controls and clumsy jumping).

Cute game with great art! Didn't run too smooth on my potato pc but i still had fun with it!

mrmanguy 2025-04-11 21:34

I really like the idea and the graphics, but the movement is a little jarring at first. I struggled to time my jumps correctly.

Great gameplay and cool graphics

cute graphics! reminds me of the "foddian" genre

tetracold 2025-04-11 21:56

I like the style, it took me a bit to understand the movement, it would have been nice if the jump mechanics would have been explained, but eventually I got how the arc works by playing around.

I also thought the green water was something I could swim in just to fall right through it, I think making it look more threatening or have some sort of danger sign would have helped a lot to convey that it shouldn't be interacted with

Good job on submitting an entry! I'll start off by saying I really like the visuals. The fish is very cute and I want him to escape! Minor note on the visuals, there is some sort of strange lens flare or refraction or shadowy effect happening on the entire screen that's like a ghost of all the geometry. I'm not entire sure what is happening but it was a bit distracting. Besides that I was a bit thrown off by the controls at first. I would probably tell the player that the WASD is more for water and the jumping is more for land, or at least that's what it seemed like to me. I found the pipe in the water that said I found an exit but I went back to explore further. I was EXTREMELY confused by the controls and how to jump up the platforms, but eventually I figured out that the jump height/angle is based on where the camera is angled. That brings me to the camera which is inverted by default with no option to change that. I would highly recommend un-inverting the camera by default and adding an option for people to do that if they want. And in regards to the jumping even when I understood the controls I felt like most of the time I was guessing whether or not I would actually make a jump. Instead it being purely based on camera I would maybe do some sort of system like golf games do where you have some sort of preview arc of where you're going to jump. It doesn't necessarily have to show exactly where you will land so maybe the preview arc fades after a few feet just to give you some idea of the jump while retaining some difficulty. The system you have made it especially hard to jump on top of the small thin orange barrier at the end of a level. I did manage to make it to the second level but failed once I tried that little barrier jump. Some sort of checkpoint system would be nice as I ended up quitting after being sent all the way back to the beginning. Apologies for the wall of text but hopefully it's helpful! Overall after I got over the controls and camera I did have fun and got excited making it to the next level. Good job!

Well done! I really hope you continue to make games <3!

kelda 2025-04-12 12:31

Really cool and themed controller there ! I read it is still in development, good luck with that

ronalchue 2025-04-12 13:36

Interesting plot idea, fish jumping on land. Unfortunately due to inverted mouse axis I couldn't play for long

slay-a-stone 2025-04-13 08:53

The inverted controls really dragged the game down, I couldn't play with it. I also had a big blue box on my screen. Is that a bug?

muriel 2025-04-13 11:01

The 3d models are well done, the sounds are cute, I have the same blue rectangle on the screen that confused me a lot as I couldn't see the fish correctly, but being a game done in so short it is a very solid game.

Haha it took me a while to realize that the fish can go outside the water but once I understood it it has been cool.

Very cool entry, keep it up!!!

butterflan 2025-04-13 11:30

Pretty okay for a first game jam ^^ It has some things that I hope could help you If you want some advices ;) The cameras is like soap. Very difficult to aim the direction and the force the fish will go. The force is determined by the angle of the camera ? So...why there are keyboard buttons ? Don't be discouraged, it's really nice for a first time !

svenerik 2025-04-13 12:06

flushedaway.pngAlso had the blue thing o nthe screen, although in a different way, but overall the aesthetics look great if I ignore that. A bit hard on the game-play side, but what's a little challenge going to do~ Solid work!

mrdumpling 2025-04-14 11:07

ζ°)))彡 -Plop-plop!

shacozha 2025-04-14 21:54

Nice graphics and sound effects! I love the vibe, could have fixed the bug for a better gameplay. Great job overall

torte478 2025-04-15 12:58

I really enjoyed the core mechanic. On one hand, the inability to move on land feels restrictive, but on the other, it gives the gameplay uniqueness. It was tricky to realize that jump direction and strength depend on your gaze direction. But the atmosphere is absolutely stunning—it's like Stray, but with a goldfish!

salaro 2025-04-16 23:27

It's an overall great game, it's a bit difficult in a way that doesn't feel intentional but also in a way where that difficulty added to my overall enjoyment. I greatly enjoy games that one may consider to be "rage games" lol You should definitely continue to work on this once the jam is over

stephenwhoskins 2025-04-23 00:22

I love it! You did really good art for this one. It's the best art I've encountered in the entries so far. I also love how you made a completely playable and fun game on your first try. It's making me think of "Getting Over It." So you just keep trying over and over until you're finally able to get yourself into the next area.
