Congrats on finishing your first jam, that's a huge feat!

Super unique idea and I could see this flushed out more, it feels like you could borrow a lot of learnings from the Temple Run-style games (aka I'm interested in how a discretized grid for your XY position would work compared to continuous).

peppersalt07 2025-04-08 07:49

Gives me a headache; I love it.

tosmaster 2025-04-08 07:49

A cute little game that took me a while to understand. I really like the trade off of not seeing what is coming and navigating to some place where an interaction will be in the future. Interesting design and ideas displayed.

cobes 2025-04-08 07:49

Super innovative, love the concept!

ayuv 2025-04-08 07:56

@poboy Thank you so much, it really means a lot, especially coming off my first jam. I’ll definitely explore how that could blend with the mirror-based mechanics. Appreciate you taking the time to play and drop thoughtful feedback! 💙

kawair 2025-04-08 08:02

Congratulations!

The idea is so interesting that use mirror to show the way, and falling catch the theme "Depths". You should be proud of your first work!

If there's any suggestions I can give you, it would be the moving scale of the mirror. I think it is too large, although the exaggerated motion can show the moving directions clearly, but maybe seek for a balance between the visual experience and feedback mechanisms would be better!!!

Overall, I'm sure that you can make better and better games after days!!!

ayuv 2025-04-08 08:10

@kawair Thank you so much!! I’m really glad the concept resonated with you. Totally hear you on the mirror movement — that’s such a good point. Especially when the player is moving, I feel like the mirror moves a bit too much. I think I could have spent more time trying to find that sweet spot between clarity and control. Appreciate the kind words and the thoughtful feedback — really motivates me to keep building!

toupaks 2025-04-08 11:33

Very nice work ! The depth level with the two layers of interaction with the environment is a very original idea. I'm impressed with the face that you figured this gameplay and implementation by yourself. It's a mental workaround. Good luck for the future keep exploring cool ideas like that !

ayuv 2025-04-08 15:09

@toupaks Thank you so much — that really means a lot! I had a blast brainstorming weird mechanics around the theme, and it’s super rewarding to hear that the layered interaction came across well.

jim-jagers 2025-04-08 16:27

Very interesting mechanic

sofia-miglan 2025-04-08 16:28

I like this unusual gameplay, this is the first time I've seen it. The game is short, but it's great!

ficho 2025-04-08 16:29

Overall is great, the idea is amazing but the gameplay feels a bit off when the mirror goes out of frame, maybe i just need to git good lol

senkoso 2025-04-08 16:31

i like how the review is done in thee game 💗

turkissh 2025-04-08 16:33

Cool mechanic, actually I was expecting to be also more complicated if the control were inverted as you ar falling backwards, but the use of the mirror was a great touch! Maybe objects coming to you could be improved in order to have a better felling of movement

ayuv 2025-04-08 16:54

@ficho Thanks a lot for playing! I’m really glad you liked the idea.

And yeah, the gameplay probably feels a bit off because of the large motion scale of the mirror. Maybe I should’ve limited its movement while the player was moving.

Really appreciate the feedback — thanks again!

ayuv 2025-04-08 16:55

@turkissh Thank you so much! Appreciate the feedback.

I actually planned on adding illusions as well, like reflections in the mirror that weren’t real obstacles. But given the tight deadline, I dropped the idea. Maybe post-jam I’ll try that, along with inverted controls to make it more challenging.

katastudios 2025-04-08 21:52

omg I hate it lol, for real though - top notch concept and a great job!

I definitely agree that the mirror moves a bit much when moving the character around. It feels like you were going for a gameplay balance there, which I like from a design pov, but from a vision pov it's somewhat disorienting

ruthiepee 2025-04-08 23:57

Interesting twist on the endless runner genre! I love the character design, it's sort of minimal but very expressive. And the UI is also very clean looking. As for the gameplay itself, I think I'm too tired from jamming all weekend to really get good at playing a game in reverse perspective. Very disorienting but a fun and unique concept.

pythorogus 2025-04-09 16:29

Didn't understand how to regen stamina but nice concept

ayuv 2025-04-09 16:46

@pythorogus Thanks so much for playing my game! I'm really glad you liked the concept.

To regen stamina, you just need to collect the capsules/pills — just run into them!

pythorogus 2025-04-09 16:52

@ayuv ah yes, I took the capsule but I haven't seen my stamina increase, my bad sorry

pres2300 2025-04-10 00:36

Super innovative gameplay, and congrats on your first game jam! This was really well done, nice work!

nnmbzr 2025-04-10 06:30

Interesting implementation of falling! Great that you decided to make the player fall backwards. Deciding when to move and when to look - it's like an example from a game design book (in a good sense).

However, I don't fully understand why I die - I was avoiding obstacles! It would be interesting to see how you would develop the gameplay. I immediately imagined something falling from top to bottom too. At first, I occasionally glanced there.

Almost forgot - the wall friction is magnificent!

bacontree 2025-04-10 21:20

Haha, really like the concept! For me it would have been more fun if the mirror moved around less when moving. It makes it quite hard to control, but I guess that's part of the idea as well. Anyway, love the humor! :D

buckmeister 2025-04-10 21:41

Pretty interesting gameplay idea. Though, the mirror did move a bit too much for me, still, nice entry!

ayuv 2025-04-11 05:29

@nnmbzr Thanks so much for playing — I’m really glad you enjoyed the backwards falling mechanic and the wall friction idea!

As for the sudden deaths, you’re probably running out of stamina without realizing it. The player has limited stamina while falling, and once it runs out, it results in a crash — even if you’re dodging obstacles. You can refill it by collecting the capsules floating around.

iphen 2025-04-11 23:12

Interesting idea with the mirror, but the fact that it rides on the screen is confusing, but otherwise quite funny

jona-scheidig 2025-04-12 00:10

Falling but seing everything in the rear mirror is a really interesting idea. Visually it looks really cool too, but I found the controlls to be abit difficult to get into. I was more focused to use the navigation than the mirror itself.

But perhaps this is yet another skill issue xD Still a cool entry tho

leofiremage 2025-04-15 11:27

Loved the idea but was a bit disorienting for me. Also I passed through the medicine thing but nothing happened. But the game looks pretty polished imo for a game jam game.

mavrick 2025-04-21 16:14

This game confuses my senses in the right way.

My only issue was that with the hud being linked to the mirror it's hard to keep track of your stats as you move around, would find it easier if HUD was more static.
