incremental upgrades, fishing, AND rhythm game qualities? heck yesss
Reminds me of the flash games I played when I was younger, and I mean that in a good way. Interesting combo of fishing and rhythm game. Some fish feel unforgiving though, but maybe that's just a skill issue
A nice and simple entry. I really like the reel casting animation and the rhythm game like mechanics are a nice touch. Maybe it could be a good idea to expand on that a bit and add some rhythmic reel spinning noises so it could turn into an actual rhythm game?
@jazzydingo Thank you! Glad you liked the game
@based-on-life Honestly, I can see what you mean by it seeming like a flash game. As for the difficulty: The deeper fish are supposed to be pretty difficult, but it should be a bit easier if you get the reel strength upgrade. Thank you for playing and reviewing!
@grizeldi Thank you for the comment! I had planned on adding music to match the rhythm, but I didn't end up having the time to do that. Maybe I'll give it a try in a few weeks after I'm less burnt out.
The cover really catches the eye. I love stickmen. Great game, good luck!
@indiealesha Thank you for playing and commenting! Good luck to you as well
Addicting but needs more content. Me personally I would add a compendium for the fish you caught and how many. Also maybe deeper depths or 'areas' you could enter like a deep dark or glistening cave. Also making it type words could be very beneficial.
Great game! I love me an incremental game. I thought the stock market was great too lol. Unfortunately my game seems to have froze when a fish escaped, but I had a great time with what I had. I personally found the line length was the best way to grow money quickly, assuming the skill is there to back it up.
@Cammin Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I'm sorry to hear that it froze. I'm not entirely sure what might've caused that, but I'll look into it.
Pretty nice game, I like the stickman animation !
Great setup! I love the fishing guy animation, and adding the rhythm game is a great idea! I think a few more sound effects and this woulda kept me a little longer, but even still really well done!
Hello there, nice relaxing game, I wish there was some background music. Nice graphics, overall good job :D
Very cool game! Funny character animation, and solid work on the rhythm game style reeling. I do maybe wish the game loop for throwing in the hook and catching a fish was a bit faster, especially watching the hook go down, but otherwise the game was very fun. The "fish stock market" was an interesting addition :b
Nice stickfishman. Upgrading stuff is a nice touch. A rhythm game without music or any other indication (either audible or visible) of the timing fells rather weird.
Simple yet kinda addictive, i wanted to see all the fishes :D I really liked the fisherman animation ! Good job !
Nice game love the stickman animation. Please add music it will be a lot better that way. Great job :)
Love the casting animation! :D Would have been nice to have some music to make it into a rhyhtm game or to vary the mini game a bit :)
Surprisingly addictive gameplay. I liked the visuals and buying upgrades gave a nice sense of progress. Great job!
I played the game for roughly half an hour before it crashed :sob:

as you can tell, I liked the gameplay and also the fancy fish graphics. even though the fisherman is ugly the animation is just awesome!
good job overall, I only missed some music.
@winniehell Thank you for the feedback and for sharing the error messages! That will definitely help me figure out what caused that bug. I know that @cammin had a similar issue with a game freeze. For now, I've updated the game to make it save your progress after catching fish. This should prevent loss of progress if the game crashes or freezes again.
@wetburritosupreme @bashem @jamesgames1000 @xoreaxeax Thank you all for the comments and feedback! I had hoped to add music and more sound effects, but didn't end up having the time to do so. I'll probably revisit this in the future to add more sound and a proper background music track. Thanks again for playing!
@eyedromeda Thank you for playing and for the suggestions! I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the hook speed being slow. The hook should be somewhat controllable using the arrow keys or wasb during the whole time it's going down, and the hook movement speed (including during descent) is upgradable.
The only things I could really think to change is increasing the hook starting speed or the max hook speed. Do you think either of these might help? Thank you again!
@flying-dog-fish There should be a square outline in the middle of your screen while reeling in fishes, with key prompts. You're supposed to hit the corresponding key when the symbol is in the middle of the square. I just fixed a bug where this would be moved off the screen if the game was played with high/low resolutions. Did this bug happen to you? Other than that, I definitely agree that it would be much nicer with additional indicators. Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
@notsu @astoeth @spacecadet Thank you all for playing and for the kind words!
@phasmantic No, no, I didn't get that bug. I just wish there were additional indicators.
@flying-dog-fish Gotcha, makes sense. If I update the game post-jam, I'll try to add some more visual and audio cues
2 mini-games in one with the fishing and the shop! It would probably be a lot of work to set the reeling in to SFX, and everything else feels like a good fit for the consistent experience. The fisherman animation makes me smile.
@nbumgardner Thank you for playing it! Like you thought in stream, we used bfxr/jsfxr for the few sounds we did include. We had a sound for the correct keypresses, but it was too repetitive/annoying and we didn't have enough time to adjust it, so we left it out. Also, I wish we had thought of the idea to make the movements dodge the fish around the trash/floating objects (the key order and the trash movement is randomized). That's a great idea that we might try to implement in the future. I only caught the end of the stream, but I'll try to catch some of your future ones.
Throwing animation is cool! Overall a good game, it's just a pity that the fish are few and the difficulty of catching grows very fast!🐟🐡🎣🌅
@hnkxobka Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the animation and game as a whole. Adding extra fish/sea creatures would definitely improve the game and allow for a smoother difficulty transition. I'm not yet sure if we'll continue to work on this, but if we do, more fish is probably one of the first things we would add.
A fun concept, I especially like the stick figure animation. I was hoping there would be a bigger variety of fish, but the main issue I have is that I feel the rhythm game part needs some kind of audio to underpin the actual rhythm of it. The sounds in the game right now are kind of harsh sounding, so I area where you could improve the most is the audio. But I had fun playing it!
I like the visuals, the pixel art is solid and as I said, that stick figure animation is well done. The color palette could use some tweaks, the blue of the sky and the blue of the water kinda clash with one another.
Room for improvement if you decide to work on it more, there's a solid base to work from!
Wow this game is so deep for a jam! Cool background image, sea and textures for fishes. The ability to buy equipment and STOCKS?? Seriously, well done to you and your team.
@flaterectomy Thank you for the feedback! We definitely had hoped to do more with the audio, but since it was our first time using Godot (as well as our first time trying Game dev or Game Jams in general), we had our hands a bit full with the rest of the game. We definitely plan to prepare more for audio for future jams we might do! If we keep working on this game, I'm sure we'll add a proper sound track and sound effects. Thank you again for your comment and for playing!
@pranav-cl Thank you very much. We are glad you liked the game, and really appreciate the comment!
First of all, I love the animation of the throwing the fishing line! Also the waves on top are very cute. I liked the bubbles in the background, which gave some refrence for where we are moving. As for a Post-LD version, I can totally imagine each fish having it's own sounds/music to which you tap the keys.
I also had some crashes unfortunately, I am glad you made the update to save the player's progress. At first I thought I had to also avoid all the non-fish things floating around. Often I wished I could move the hook up and down as well, to catch some of the more rare fish. I played for far too long, trying to catch all the different kind of fish. I was wondering if there was an end to the game?
Well done!
