Love the RTS genre! Good work!
That's a solid well done RTS right there!
Graphics are simple but I enjoy them and they fit perfectly.
Background ambient is good, sets the mood.
AND OMG these little bees say individual lines when you click them. I just love it
one of my favorites so far!
I had the same idea. Glad someone made it.
i thought the antennae were smiley eyes at first hahaha. amazing to pull together an RTS in this timeframe, well done!
I liked the game! I defeated all the bears at the end and had my hive at its max level. :) The music was nice (chill vibes) and the graphics fit the mood nicely. I would have wished for it to be a bit harder, though: since the bears only attack the main hive and never the worker bees or the pools of honey stored around the map, you don't have to invest a lot in fighters, you can just swarm the map with bees and let your hive with minimal defenses. The bee immersion felt great that way, but I missed the challenge. ;) Otherwise, fun entry, thanks.
Really really great RTS and complete as well! awesome graphics! and very well polished
Wow the tutorial was super impressive, so jealous haha The game solid and fun, we enjoyed playing it ! A macro goal would have been nice =)
@ntimi Hidden pacifist playstyle (True playstyle, let the bears have honey). For real tho the plan was to have the bear attack the bees as well but time ran out. The bears won this time.
Good concept! We also made a game about upgrading a beehive! I had sometimes issues selecting the beehive, don't really now why.
I *love* the little lines you recorded for the different bees. They are quite adorable.
Good job!
Excellent RTS, I could play this for hours! Only two issues I found. 1) The bees stopped spawning at the hive and instead at one of the flower beds. Maybe that is correct, but it made me think at first this was a glitch. 2) The group select is nice, but needs a way to deselect the bees. My farmer bees kept getting deployed with soldiers to go fight the bears unintentionally.
@j-rara I think that you chose that position by accident. You can choose where the bees go when they spawn by right-clicking while the hive is chosen
This is such a perfect game. RTS that is responsive, easy to understand, addicting and also looks and sounds great! Wow, I really could play it more if I could.
I'm so shocked that you managed to come up with the concept, implement not only the mechanics, but also all the QoL features found in RTS games, and give the game its charm! (The bees' voicelines are so funny and charismatic - "Bee moving" haha) And all that in 72 hours with two people!
Thank you for this game, it's one of my favourites now! This definitely needs more ratings.
The hive must grow!
I really enjoyed Age of Honey, making and RTS in a Jam is amazing and you managed to make something that is super easy to use, beautiful and full of fun voice acting for the bees!
I had some issues with the selection of the Hive and the Bees:
- when zoomed out, it is possible to select the Hive and right click on the map to change the "move to" order of new bees but the UI to spawn new bees and upgrade the hive doesn't appear on the bottom of the screen. I had to unselect the hive, zoom in and select it again - when box selecting bee, it would have been nice to have a control to select only one type of bee from the selection. Or maybe CTRL-box = select only soldier - at the end, I wasn't able to click on the hive anymore, and the bear killed me. One of the bear managed to reach the hive and prevented me to click it, therefor I couldn't spawn new soldier to fight back.
But honestly, this is a real gem :honey_pot:

Edit: Oh, and I think the hive shoudln't be a red dot on the mini map - only enemies should be red. Maybe a yellow dot?
Great game, loved the attention to detail with the bee voice lines. Music and sound effects were both good. The tutorial when you open the game was useful and probably the best onboarding experience I've seen yet in this jam. There was an issue in-game where one of my soldiers just started moving in a direction, then he kinda just walked off the map. I think he was chasing a bear that I clicked on, but I clicked around the terrain a few times after which I thought should have cancelled that order. Still, fantastic stuff for a few days, well done.
It`s kinda funny to play as a bee, matching with theme 10/10
I LOVED how it immediately felt like Warcraft 2, with bees screaming commands when I clicked on them and told them where to go :) Really great job in working the RTS genre into this theme!
My feedback: - At least in my playthrough, it didn't seem like there was any confirmation of click on buildings - like, a circle showing up around them - so I sometimes wasn't sure if my click "went through" - It was sometimes hard to land a click on the main base to produce more bees - I had to zoom in and out and click at it many times for it to "hit" - Unfortunately around the time of upgrading the new base, I couldn't seem to be able to spawn more bees :( The money was taken by the system but no new bees spawned
Overall though, great job for the duration of the jam!
Looooove RTS games. I have been a part of a couple of RTS projects since I started LD and it's always fun to see others doing them as well.
Good on you for getting in voice lines for the bees! It's not an RTS without voicelines! :D
I loved the art, the chill music of the game, and the bees saying stuff like "rise and shine" :) At some point I got overwhelmed by the bears and gave up. One thing that made it hard for me: when zoomed out everything was too blurry, and it was hard to tell which bee was farmer, transporter, or fighter. Overall, a really polished entry, and it even has a nice tutorial. Well done!
